Simply Sober October - week 4
Morning all -
Lav, I hope your DIL's parents will be OK - it all sounds pretty damaging. I just watched a report that talked about what would happen if NYC's subways flooded, and how long it would take to repair....yikes. I'm hoping my friends there will be able to cope with the storm.
Star - you really sound like a desert lover! Maybe you should think about that as your retirement place? Lots of great home values in Tucson, and many many retirees from the Midwest. I never fit into the desert, but I could definitely appreciate it's beauty. Will you get to go into town at all? I am remembering that when we were there we'd go on Sunday mornings to a fabulous coffee place with divine baked goods....Raging Sage Coffeehouse, close to Grant and Campbell, if memory serves...
Wishing all well on this Sunday - Chill, thinking especially of you, hope you are safe --
OK, off to do laundry and other things requiring electricity...I just toasted some frozen waffles, and just the thought of being without power reminds me to be grateful that it exists.to the light

Happy be-lated Birthday, LBH. I loved the story. It reminded me of a similar event that took place when I was driving home from South Carolina to Ohio all by myself. An accident had traffic at a veritable stand-still. Once it got moving, it was inexorably slow. I thought I was going to EXPLODE I had to go so badly!! I managed to hold it though and made it to an exit.
Pmom, Lav, Cyn, any others in the path of the storm, please stay safe. We'll be thinking of you.Dill

Simply Sober October - week 4
Hi everyone,
Just wanted to let you all know we're snuggled up safe and sound here in Central MA. All potential missiles have been secured, food and water and gas purchased, cell phone charging, windup radio with charger ready to go, flashlights set, candles ready, prescriptions refilled for me and LM. The only thing I don't have is a generator but that's an expense I just can't handle (about $3500 for purchase and installation). One day tho...
the wind is picking up pretty good here so dogs will go out tonite on leash so as to not become doggie kites :H.
Lav-so hope you will be OK. Are you in the snow path as well? Also hoping your DIL parents will make it through unscathed. I would not want to be on the coast of MD, NJ or NY right now!
RC-what is this BSH you speak of?
Chill-PLEASE check in! I pretty sure you are OK as you've been posting on FB but just humor us OK?
Star-so happy to hear you are having a wonderful time in AZ and are starting to relax. Whoo hoo!!
Kas-did you feel the earthquake were you too far away? 7.7. whoo boy!
OK, I will check in a few more times tonite as this thing roars in. I am really hoping for the school to close tomorrow. Our sister university to the north of us is already closed and the gov has declared a state of emergency. He had a press conference at 4:30 but I missed it. Going to hunt for the video now.
Later!New Birthday: May 8, 2010

8-10" of rain & winds at 60-80 mph is quite enough for me papmom. Don't need no freaking snow :H :H
Getting the dogs outside tomorrow will be a real horror show. I sometimes wish the would just use the powder room.....:H
Greetings Dill.
Are you in for snow??
I left Stella in charge out in the coop RC - hope she knows what she's doing? This is her first hurricaneAF since 03/26/09

Simply Sober October - week 4
Good Morning everyone, hope you are all safe across the pond.
I survived the weekend although I have been screaming on the inside and again entertained drinking thoughts as a way of escaping reality. Have been scared to post as I don't trust Mr S not to hack my computer and have been deleting emails immediately that I have been exchanging with my girlfriends. Anyway he has just left for work and I can breathe again *sigh*
I haven't slept much and am feeling less than able for the amount I need to do today, coffee and plenty deep breathes will see me through I see the letting agent at 3pm and will check in later when I know how soon I can take the apartment. Thank you all so much for your concern and support, it really means a lot to me knowing you are here :l"In the depths of winter I finally learned there was in me an invincible summer ."

Chill! So glad you check in!! And super glad you are OK. Still wish you would consider bugging out while he's at work and going to a shelter or something if you can while your apartment is being readied. Yet another reason why I wish you were here in the states!! Hmm, I wonder how quickly you can get a tourist visa? Elle wouldn't even need to be quarantined at all!! Just a wishful thought.
Well, obviously I'm still here too-no power outage for me.... yet. The wind has really picked up this morning and the rain is getting heavier. Where I am, the rainfall will be higher than the coast so our chances of flooding are high too (their flooding will come from the storm surges). I slept like a baby. Apparently LM decided that he could hold his poop until the morning-I don't think he likes the potential of morphing into a bird! :H
Since Sandy isn't making landfall until 8pm, I'm really wondering what tomorrow will bring. The govenor is more than welcome to extend the state of emergency. I'll comply.
Lav, Cyn please check in if you can. Jolie has come into my thoughts today as well. We haven't heard from her in so long. Hope she is ok.
Will be back later.New Birthday: May 8, 2010

Simply Sober October - week 4
Good morning all -
We're under a high wind and flood advisory here, serious rain coming in later today. Lav and Dill, I'm thinking of you, it sounds like you're in the direct path. What a strange experience this is, getting ready for days, feeling like Sisyphus on the umpteenth clearing out of the gutters, and now waking up to seeing them full again. The darn Red Oak trees have been hanging onto their leaves, and now they are flying around like mad flocks of birds. Speaking of birds, over the weekend I saw a disturbing display by birds in my yard - dozens of them in groups streaking from the trees down to feed on the ground and then streaking up to the trees again. I've never seen anything like it - maybe they knew it was their last chance for dry food for awhile...
Anyway, I'm trying to be productive here at home -- all this waiting and watching and fielding phone calls from HB (working in FL) has seriously gotten me out of myself. I'll try to get back on track and get all computer work done this morning, just in case. I'm turning off all media at this point, I figure che sera, sera.
Chill, thanks so much for posting, this guy clearly does not have your best interests at heart if he's hacking your computer. Holy cow, take care girl. Hope the real estate agent gives you good news...
Star, will you be able to fly home, with all these flights cancelling?
Wishing everyone well, safe and AF -to the light
