Simply Sober October - week 4

    Good morning friends!

I'm still here & still have power
Heavy rain but not too much problem with wind yet.

Goodness - my son, DIL & 2 grandsons showed up last night around 8 pm. They've decided to ride out the storm here with me. I just hope the food holds out :H They did bring som eof their favorites along with them including several gallons of milk (which I don't touoch)!

Getting these dogs outside is a major pain in the butt!!!! The Insanity Twins have been housed across the driveway in YB's garage - they are safe there & out of my hair :H

Papmom, I have been thinking about Jolie too. She's located closer much closer to the water than I am
All schools, colleges & most everything are closed today & tomorrow - oh joy!

I'll check back later when I can. The kids are still asleep at 8 am - nice
    Lav

Cross post - Hi cyn! Stay safe!!!

Simply Sober October - week 4

11:30 AM here and although the wind has pick up quite a bit, I still have power and sattelite. I've been working like crazy since 7:30 trying to fix some system glitches for registration and not having any luck. I was getting email after email from my boss and now nothing even tho I've replied back to everyone with questions. Maybe his power is out although the school still has power (or else I wouldn't be able to get into my desktop remotely to work). I'm taking a break now as I'm about to wig out due to not being able to solve the problems. I've shut everything down and rebooted in hopes that will help but I doubt it since it's a system thing and I have no control over that. Sigh.

Lav-well you had power 3 hours ago-how are you doing now? I hope the boys are keeping you entertained :H. I think they were worried about Mimaw and didn't wan you to be alone. sweet.

Cyn-stop going out in this and cleaning the gutters-you'll never be able to keep up and you might blow away!!

The worst is coming this afternoon and evening. I'm definitely going to have to put the boys on leash for the next outing.

Simply Sober October - week 4

Good morning everyone. I am really hoping Sandy turns out to be as mild as her /his name. Please keep safe all of you eastcoasters.

Chillgirl, what is happening to you reminds me so much of a boyfriend I had once long before I met Mr Kaslo. He was a sociology student at Carleton University in Ottawa, and I noticed he was becoming more and more controlling as time went on. I went out to visit him, with the thought of staying, and marrying him. He was very controlling, and negative a lot of the time. He got more and more threatening as well as controlling over a couple of weeks really. One day he was at the University all day and I took that opportunity to put my stuff into the storage locker, but stuck around to say good bye. What a mistake. Im lucky he only seriously was able to attack me as I ran down the snowy streets of Ottawa, and a french canadian woman stopped and dragged me into her car. She sped off and saved my life. (I know this sounds awful, it was). I had to go back with the cops to get my stuff out of the locker. When I got there the apartment door was standing open and he was gone, thank goodness. The cops helped me get my trunks into the back of the police car and we took them to the train station, I booked a ticket and was back in BC at the end of the week. That was 1976 I believe.

Some of us are hinting get out while you can. Im not hinting. Please consider getting your hiney out of there while its in one piece. Maybe he is not the really violent kind but you dont want to find out the hard way. If hes starting to reconsider how harsh hes been, and angry, so much the better, but in your situation, why give anyone like that the benefit of the doubt?

          Love Kaslo

Post script. We were intelligent, educated, professionals. The Ottawa boyfriend is now a well known and respected litigator in Victoria. Very posh. Nice wife, etc. But a psycopath underneath, for sure. Maybe it was just me that brought it on in him, or it was a very bad time for him, but all the same, the parallels are striking.

BTW I never did feel the earthquake. Friends on Vancouver Island didnt either. But the water level dropped in Prince Rupert. When it struck I was deep in conversation with some old friends way up the Slocan River valley on a hillside in a strawbale house. Maybe thats why! :0

Everyone have a fine day. I am not going to work ALL day, I sure need a break.
          Kaslo

2 pm & still have power, yay!
It probably won't be on much longer & I'm not keen to let the generator suck the propane tank dry. Getting outside & crawling through the wet, overgrown shrubbery to manually turn the thing off is a pain in the butt so I'll make someone else do it :H

Good thing my EMT/Paramedic/Firefighter/First Responder son is here!!!!!
Matilda just had a hard plastic piece ( from one of the kid's toys) stuck over the teeth on her bottom jaw. She was hysterical, to say the least. My son calmly donned heavy leather gloves, grabbed a wire cutter & with two quick snips removed the plastic piece! I was thinking I was going to have to drive her to the Vet & spend a lot of $$ to have her freed. Grown kids are useful
YB showed up after all the drama. Figures.

Chill, i really hope you remove yourself from that potentially dangerous situation, really

Kas, glad you are OK & enjoying a day off!

90 mph winds due here between 6 & 8 pm, 10 or so inches of rain overall ~ swell.
            Hope to be back later!!!!

              Chill-ditto what Kas said.

Lav-what a happy ending to a potentially expensive and dangerous situation (the driving in this storm). Your son is true hero!! Mickey got a treat toy stuck on his bottom jaw a number of years ago and totally freaked out!! I eventually was able to get it off and he was so thankful! He never tried to bite me and just gave me tons of kisses afterwards. I threw that sucker away quickly!!

I was looking out the window to see what was going on in the back yard for photo ops when I noticed that the lattice panel that kept the boyz from getting under the deck and potentially escaping the yard had broken away and was lying under the deck. Oh boy-lucky me!! No rain suit either but out I went to try to repair. No luck. Grabbed one of my Xpens and some cable ties and secured it the best I could in this wind. It's got to be blowing 50 or 60 mph out there!! Its done tho and I feel confident they can't get under the deck now (as long as the expen holds up through tomorrow). yet another project to be completed in all my spare time before the snow flies. Yippee!

Haven't taken the dogs out since 10am. At this point I don't give a shit if they shit in the house LOL!!

Quick update: 3:45 here, still have power, but the lights have been flickering and we've lost it briefly several times, so I'm just going to go ahead and shut everything down - too nerve-wracking!

Good luck to everyone tonight - will post again when I can -

                    Lav and Papmom,

Must be fate! I'm doing fine - actualy doing really well, just haven't been here in a while. Must say it is so comforting to come back here and see that you guys are still thinking of me. We are holding up pretty well down in the neck - still have power which is just amazing to me. We've done everything we can to prepare and are just waiting it out. Hope you are all well and safe. Going to start reading through the posts to see how all are doing.

Sending prayers out to all my MWO friends and hope they are safe no matter where they are.

                    Jolie:h

Yea Jolie!!! So happy to hear from you!! Glad you are doing well and are safe. Its amazing to me my power is still on too. Power is out in certain towns in my region.

Stay safe and let us know what you've been up to when you can.

                      Winds are really bad now.

Several momentary power losses - no big deal. This is a freaking miracle :H
I don't expect to be this lucky through the whole storm!

                        Jolie, glad you popped in
Sad seeing pictures of storm damage already on TV
                        Hang on tonight, OK?

One grandson in bed, trying to get the other to go to sleep as well. Then all we have to deal with is the hurricane :H :H

Hang in to those doggies Papmom!

                        I hope everyone stays safe!

worst is over for me. No power outage at all so I feel very fortunate. No work tomorrow either!! Well, I shouldn't say that-I'll be working from home most of the day.

Coastal New England is preparing for the 2nd punch as the tides are expected to be extremely high and worse flooding than what we saw today is expected.

Lav, Jolie, Cyn-hope the worst is over for you too-check in when you can!

Pmom, Lav, Cyn, Jolie, so glad you have made it through! Here in southwestern Ohio we're dealing with high winds, rain and temps in the low 30's. We have a high wind warning in effect until 6pm. So far, so good as far as power here.

Jolie, really grand to see you!

Has anyone thought of a November name? It's time already!!

Let's celebrate surviving the storm together and be grateful for another af day!

So glad to log in and find that you are all safe and sound. Have been thinking of you all. Had a break away with hubby in Belfast and it's mid term so busy, busy.

What about November survivors? Will check back later.
