    ACCEPT WHAT YOU HAVE
Research shows that happy people have modest levels of expectation and aspirations ? they want what they can get ? while unhappy people never seem to get what they want. They also know how to avoid disappointments and how to generate pleasant surprises. This is because they strive for realistic goals and are happy with their lot. As Dr Jose de Jesus Garcia Vega, of the University of Monterrey, Mexico, confirms, we must accept things as they come.

?We spend a lot of time complaining about the things that happen to us, but this is a waste of time and effort,? he says. ?To be happy, we need to enjoy what we have.?

    ENJOY WHAT YOU DO
Happy people do what they enjoy and enjoy what they do ? and don?t do it for the money or glory. There?s no point being stuck in a job you hate, surrounded by unfriendly colleagues just because the money is good ? people forget that they are allowed to be happy at work, too. Many spend the best years of their lives trying to make money, sacrificing their health and family in the process, later, they spend the same money they made working trying to recover their lost health and estranged family.

    LIVE FOR TODAY
Don?t dwell on the past, on things that went wrong or previous failures. Similarly, don?t dream about an idealised future that doesn?t exist or worry about what hasn?t happened yet. Happy people live for the now; they have positive mind sets. If you can?t be happy today, what makes you think tomorrow will be different?

    CHOOSE HAPPINESS
Don?t be afraid to step back and re-evaluate your goals. Imagine your life as a story that you can edit and revise as you go along. This kind of flexible approach requires positive thinking and an open mind ? you need to actively choose to be happy.

She found that ?voluntarists? (people who feel they have free choice and complete control over their life) were happier than fatalists (people who think little can be changed by personal intervention).
Luckily for us, Northern European countries contain more voluntarists while Latin European countries such as Spain and Italy have a higher percentage of fatalists.

    RELATIONSHIPS
We get our happiness from other people, and from supporting other people. Remember that just as other people can make us happy, we are all ?other people? to someone else. And cherish people who are important to you. Research also shows that married people are happier than single people.

    STAY BUSY
If you want to be happier, develop an outgoing, social personality ? accept that drinks invitation, join the walking club, book group or choir. The best way to savour pleasure is in the company of others. Build a rich social life, says Eunkook M. Suh, a psychology professor at Yonsei University in Seoul, not as an obligation, but because it is rewarding, meaningful and fun.

Active, busy, social people are the healthiest and happiest, in society. Get involved: make your motto ?use it or lose it.?

    DON'T COMPARE
Ambition is healthy and makes people happy, explains Claudia Senik, a professor at the University of Paris-Sorbonne, but envy makes them unhappy. Yet comparisons with others can spoil the benefits of ambition and are only useful if you learn something from them. Focus on your goals and dreams so you can enjoy your ambition and achievements.

    BE YOURSELF
Just as you shouldn?t compare yourself with others, it?s important not to worry about what others think about you ? then you can truly be yourself.
Happy people are spontaneous, natural and real; they say what they think and feel, and aren?t concerned what others think of them. Being oneself makes one feel free and authentic.

    STOP WORRYING
Don?t take yourself too seriously. Happy people don?t worry and they recognise that 90 per cent of worries never come true.

    GET ORGANISED
You might envy those laid-back bohemian types who just do things on the spur of the moment, but don?t be fooled. Happy people plan and organise, they have goals and a purpose. You can only get what you want or desire if you know what it is you want or desire in the first place. So while those chilled-out friends might seem happy, they?re actually just drifting along.

    THINK POSITIVE
Bottling up emotions and bad feelings creates psychological distress and physical discomfort. Happy people get things off their chest, their motto is: get rid of it, or it will get rid of you. Similarly, work at developing optimistic thinking; happy people always look on the bright side.

Successful athletes know to focus on winning, not losing, explains Miriam Akhtar, one of the first positive psychologists in the UK. We need to switch from a negative, glass-half-empty outlook to a glass-half-full and put optimism into practice to be happiest. Optimism is the mind?s natural self-defence mechanism against depression.

    VALUE HAPPINESS
Happiness can be learned, but finding meaning and a purpose in life is what leads to it, not the other way around. The happiest people appreciate

    af day Friday 9 Nov

Morning all...... And a lovely day here again.

Mick eh......Tenerife? How warm is it there in Nov, still s'pose it's still baking for a scot if it's over 5 degrees! LOL

Getting my energy back and learning to balance my days a little better............tis my 69 today........ Can't think how to celebrate it!:H

Cantoo...... You drive careful out there! Don't wanna lose my holiday buddy!

DET ...... Don't know if you caught my post late yesterday but I have been using HOLOSYNC meditation CDs for 4 years. Has anyone else here used them. I think they are awesome and have done so much for me. They are not cheap and some feel they are overpriced and there are other binaural CDs that are a lot cheaper but I have bought others and HOLOSYNC seems more complete. Their theta wave CD is very helpful with regard to addictive problems.....I listen every night as I fall asleep.

I have been self employed most of my career but the couple of years I had a boss did my head in! Being patronized and spoken down to really got me down as well as resulting in a few arguments.......so I sympathize with the arsehole boss stories.

    Off for my wanders....... KY

Morning KY and Mick thanks for the coffee and the kickoff.

Having a lazy morning before heading out the door to dig out the car.
We are at our high for today -12!
Still snowing close to 20 cm have accumulated.

KY...what do you mean you don't know how to celebrate 69? Do I need to draw you a picture?

Will check in later. Have a great AF Friday all and all to come.....PPQ

          Hello, awesome abbers!

I hope you will get the chance to jump online at some point during your travels, Mick. You will be missed very much while you are gone. Thank you for the bit of philosophy this morning; it sure makes a lot of sense.

Congrats on 69, KY. Thanks for the info on the HOLOSYNC cd's. They sound worth looking into. I'm glad to hear that you are getting a sense of balance back.

It's quite cold here in Maryland, but we are supposed to have a glorious, warm, sunny weekend. I can't wait after all the dreary weather we've had lately, even though I've no right to complain with all that has happened in NY and NJ. At least those poor folks will have some nicer weather to clean up in.

Be careful in the snow, PPQ. It sounds bloody cold where you are!

I need a Farenheit/Celcius calculator to figure out all your temps. All I know is that your 0 is our 32.

Well, off to work; I go in relatively early this morning. I agree about being self-employed, KY. I have had good bosses and bad ones, and the bad ones can really bring you down. The only thing I don't like is the lack of stability in income.

Have a good day, all, and all to come.

          Hugs,
          :l

            Good Friday morning Abbers!

            Thanks for the coffee Mick
Hope you have a good trip next week whether it's for business or pleasure
Yes, I did have a kid-free day yesterday & it was quite enjoyable to be honest. I'm sure I'll be seeing the grandsons at some point today.
If my husband would just accept what he has & choose to be happy each & every day things would be a whole lot different. I have never been able to get him to hear that message. Probably because his head has been up his ass for most of his life :H

            Greeting Kuya, PQ & YahYah!
I am looking forward to the 60 degree weather heading here Sunday! Maybe I'll finally get around to doing some Fall house cleaning in the chicken coop

Wishing everyone a great AF Friday!

Lav, if you're cleaning a chicken coop today, anything that happens to me on the job will pale in comparison. I'll use that thought to get me through the workday. Then the weekend - Yay! Very, very happy about that.

Kuya, I'm going to check out the CDs, too. Somehow I lost the subliminal one from the MWO collection! I think I am ready for a change, too. I do think they have helped.

PPQ I hope you didn't have far to go this morning. Be safe, it warms up just enough for it to get icy. Our roads were rutted and icy yesterday :-(. I'm exhausted from the driving this week.

Happy AF Friday everyone. Oh my beloved Friday (this is month two of workless Fridays) Was a stressful week with the amount of money I spent. Must say I'm a little depressed. But I've got new reading glasses, clean teeth, a personal trainer and spring training camp that all paid for. Sometimes I feel like I have to pay someone to have any human touch (hang on KY). Yes I'm serious. Next week I have the first of 3 weekly massages lined up.

Wow, I was trying to sound Happy.

Ok , I got to sleep in an hour this moring, fed The Cat (Keeda), fed me, filled and stared the dishwasher and logged on here to see how everyone here was doing.

I hope your day is smooth PPQ
Lav, when I hit the lotto jackpot you get a vacation too.
YaH, keep that converter handy, you're going to see some crazy temps temps coming. Keep in mind the tempature matches up at -40.
Mick, enjoy your weekend. One more week and you're in Spain my friend. When you're there keep your face to sun. It does wonders for the soul.
KY, you must have had a silly smile on your face all day. 69 eh? Nice one!

K, jumping in the shower before I go grocery shopping. My list if fairly small as my new nutritional plan is very close to how I eat without the cookies and ice cream :H. Then training session #2 this afternoon. The weekend 16k hike has now turned into an 8k snowshoe thing - I'm driving myself out in case I want more.

Ugh the kid just jumped in the shower. OK, I'm going back to Mick's start to read today's supplementary readings. Best grab a tea too. THANK YOU MICK :l

CanToo get used to these 4 day weeks.

                Hello Cat!

Mick, that sounds like some great tea

Can Too, I'm inspired by your workout ethic, your kicking some mega butt!

I was delayed getting home due to emergency vehicles blocking the way as we had dangerously high winds and a fire in my valley. the motorists were getting agitated and one of them made a run for it by blowing by the checkpoint. this promted a county sheriff vehicle to give chase. it seems society is so fragile that something as mellow as a half hour delay causes these lemmings to do dumb dangerous things that are so selfish. oh well, what can we do but set the best examples we can and keep our act together.

Friday Flyby here.....gotta bust out the shovel and clear an inch or two of snow before it warms up and turns to slush and then back to ice. Ahhhhhh....the joy of living in the wonderland! In the spirit of Mick's inspirational sharing this morning....I shall choose to embrace this chore and view it as great exercise! I am LUCKY! Right? RIGHT?!?!? That's what I thought.

Actually...I have to give GRATITUDE quite a bit of credit for keeping me alive. Back during my dark days of addiction I remember waking up feeling miserable physically and mentally and thinking...here we go again. I will vow to never drink again...and by 3 or 5 (depending on the day) I'll be back at it.

Well...the day I finally quit for good, I was so miserable....so depressed.....so scared....and so seemingly....hopeless and I thought...I really am going to die from this addiction one way or another. But...a tiny little thought popped into my head....and it went like this.....I am breathing now and have another day of life....that means there is always a chance for change. And change did happen! My life has never been better now that I am finally free of addiction.

To this day....when I wake up...the first thing I do is revel in the gratitude of having another day. Even if I GET to shovel snow first thing! Gratitude is so POWERFUL.

I am really grateful for this community and each of you who have come here to share and to care! Have a wonderful weekend FABrrrrrrrrrlicious ones not so near but not as far as it seems.
                            Sober for the Revolution!
