    af day wed 14 Nov

Sorry to diverge into a dating pity party there - a bit off topic I know - I just feel the pain. The PAIN!

    Hello all!

I booked a massage for this Sunday to celebrate a week AF. If I cave before then - no massage for me. Gotta keep the motivation up at the moment.

KY, that is great to hear re the changing NZ drinking culture. It certainly was VERY full on when I was growing up there, as it is here. I wonder if the heavy dope smoking culture has changed at all? Hard to imagine :H

KY, coincidentally, I just happened to stumble upon another great sober blog and this one is from NZ and the author talks about the heavy drinking culture here:

Ditto to Lilly's sorry to pull us into a Dating pity party, but thanks all for letting me go there. Phew. I sent Lilly a PM.

Now back to the regularly scheduled programming.......

I'm sorry to read of the seasonal blues. I get them a bit, too. I was debating whether to go to a comedy show on New Years (I went last year, and it was a nice low-key time; held at the Jewish Community Center). I think I'd feel too alone, though. I may buy two tickets (they are inexpensive) and have the option.

I get an organic fruit and veggie box delivered every few weeks. It's a wealth of beautiful food! I made dinner tonight with just stir-fried veggies and brown rice, and my son said, "Yeah, vegetables. Vegetable are awesome because they are so good for you, mom. Why do some people not like them?" He is nine. I once again counted my blessings that he is my kid.

I also got a butternut squash and apples, and am going to make a soup out of that. Yum. The fall brings out the domestic in me.

Hope you all have a peaceful night.

          Cat

Hi SL. I find taking tryptophan an hour before sleep on an empty stomach followed by melatonin half hour later will allow sleep to come naturally in an hour. You can order trytophan from biorecovery in the states.

Checking in from New Zealand. contrary to my fellow Kiwis on this thread - the drinking culture in NZ is not necessarily getting better - maybe changing. Sure we have more awareness about sober drivers but the amount of binge drinking (and just not just young drunks) is really bad. In fact I found in the past that when I became self policing about drink drinking (total no-no) I probably drank more than usual because I knew I could not drive. Binge drinking among young women is increasing in NZ and alcohol excess among all women is on the increase (of course these are reported studies - some women can be very good at secret drinking). there is also a big culture of denial here - especially among the pinot noir set. Middle class wine quaffers can be awful drunks and disguise it within wine talk. Eating disorders/alcohol/drug abuse also a biggie in this lovely country.
But this old drunk has had another AF day/night!
