Dear AF buddies

I know us starting a new day here is confusing for folks on other time zones - but blame it on Greenwich or the Time Zones or whatever. Tricks of history. We are used to it here in NZ - so tolerate us when we play it to our strengths. Actually the new morning here is drizzly today.

And its really cool for us to be able to connect in our abstinence through the internet.

Kuya - totally agree on the dentist thing. Another hidden cost here and my dear, you will find more and more of these snitches - and be amazed at how poor some people are in NZ.
Lavande - I am with you on being firm about not drinking AL at social events - actually I sometimes get more hassle about being a vegetarian. here's to more tolerance all around!

Pourquoi - why, why, why?? (thats your name ay?) - you can do it.

Finished my tea - so must away to face the day. Nighty-nite to those who are in slumber-land.

Hi Tree, yeah tis drizzly here also. Love the weather in NZ though, never too cold, never too hot, green grass and good tempers ( on the whole)

You are right about the poverty....... Can be pretty 2nd world in some places......I think the climate allows it to be ignored. The poor don't freeze to death so we can forget about them.
The recession is biting the better off tho and that is why my practice struggles.....people who were comfortable are now struggling to maintain their lifestyle.

Really feeling in my stride ATM. Love not having the emotional ups and downs as bad.and getting the house back in order helps a lot.

Anyway, off for some lunch

Cat I hope you enjoyed your time in Nashville. Please tell me of all the cool places you got to eat! I know business trips....and that is when you get to enjoy those expensive dinners. Places that I would never spend that much on a meal You will find good music everywhere. Broadway can be a tempting place. But, other places....."writers nights"....I find that most people don't drink hardly anything as they have to play....and being drunk on stage is taboo. These are usually the places where I watch people walk around with the same beer for two hours!

Mick...sleep...no sleep I should say. I am one of those people who become stressed out unconsciously. Meaning....if you asked me to rate my stress level on a scale of 1-10.....I'd rank it at a 4-5. No sleep lets me know I am stressed out to the max. It means my mind is going a million miles a minute....I don't even notice I am stressed.

Its not just work....I leave work and come home to raise two boys. And right now I HATE how much homework they are sending home. We are spending hours on it. And quite frankly I am no good at 5th grade math.

Plus....I love staring at the ceiling at night

Hi everyone,

I'm catapulting myself from Wednesday into Thursday's thread. Why not.

Sun, I am still in Nashville. Tomorrow night is our outing - our host is taking us to an old Southern restaurant, and then to a country music venue. I'll post the names after the event (apparently the locales are famous). Tonight I worked over dinner on financial statements that make no sense - I will not drag anyone here into that muck.

I want to go with Mick and his wife on their next vacation!!

SL, I'm missing the terrible Bay Area storm - good time to be on the East Coast.

Det, you there? Sounds awful what you have been through. I hope posting can help.

I went to dinner tonight with a consultant who ordered one glass of Chardonnay, nursed it slowly with no signs of urgency, and barely finished after two hours. If I could do that, I would not be here. People like that amaze me. But the gift I got tonight? I'm building rapport with her as I might work for her firm (I'm looking for a new job). And now that I'm sober, I could go on the road and still be working with a client at 9:00pm at night. Not exciting, no, but doors opening feels terrific. My AL abuse made me unfit to pursue a better job.

There were three guys talking in the pub. Two of them are talking about the amount of control they have over their wives, while the third remains quiet.

After a while one of the first two turns to the third and says, "Well, what about you, what sort of control do you have over your wife?"

The third fellow says "I'll tell you. Just the other night my wife came to me on her hands and knees."

Quite a few name missing from the threads at the mo..is it people are to busy or what?..answers on a postcard.
Well, drinking al might be sorted out over here..they have come up with a new strategy...increase the price per unit that ll work..not.Similar to what they did with cigs..problem is the government have got to be seen to do something, however the revenue generated in tax is phenomenal.Try changing peoples outlook and culture..thats the only way it will work!

Hers a good one for anyone going to a party and not drinking...arm yourself with every pice of info re alcohol ..its harms etc before you go..when someone asks why you arent drinking then launch into it all, harms costs addictions the lot.......then watch them...its like the guy who turns up on your doorstep flogging encyclopedias.. cant get rid of them fast enough!! :H

Back again

Good morning, everyone.

I haven't posted in quite a while, although I have been lurking and reading most of the threads every day. I finally decided that I need to be accountable again and need to post daily. I have seven days now and had over six months before slipping (relapsing) last summer. Then up to 22 days, then back in the hole. I was making excuses for myself, and somehow reading all the posts/threads has helped me realize that they have been jsut that: excuses. I read on some recovery site that we drink because we WANT to drink--not for any other reason. So true.
So I plan to come here every day again. ANd I thank all of you for the help you give me, even though you may not know it.
