well I am now in Calciutta - once again in a hotel room. Pretty exhausted - been doing lots of walking and sightseeing- conference starts next week. No desire to drink - although its in the minibar and there is AL at the hotel I am at. Drinking lots of tea - and coffee (at breakfast time).
Hope everyone is keeping well - how's things Sunflower, SL? Mick -you sorted the computer yet?

The mood seems to have lifted for now. Tis good to have these threads to monitor the ups and downs. I am sure when we read back the downs are nowhere near as long as they feel.

Had my first swim today, 'twas glorious and feeling so much better for it. Hope we get a good summer to swim some lard off this arse :H:H

it is more like 'I did not drink today......cos I don't drink anymore'. Although this evening, when I was swimming I got a moment of ' I would normally drink now' cos the last time I swam I was still drinking ( after the swim, not WHILE swimming :H). I suppose that is why a year is such a biggy..... You have lived through all your normal events. But for now I am grateful not to have a daily battle anymore.

Jeez ..... For someone who had nowt to report I can surely gab......sorry.

Morning Mick...thanks for the coffee and the kickoff.
Still on the downside, didn't sleep well again and eating properly has become a real chore.

Today's the day all the financial info from the co-poa's is required at my lawyers.
If they don't comply we are in front of the judge on Tuesday.
If they do comply I have my work cut out for me as next judge appearance is Feb 11.
It's been a nice break not thinking about all of it. Guess break time is up.

Morning TT...glad you're able to check in from India. Hope the conference goes well.

Morning KY...glad to hear your mood has lifted. It is funny hearing about 30C and swimming while we're frozen here.

Good morning, all.

Just wanted to check in before getting ready for work. Posted on yesterday's thread. had to sign papers for the "new" car yesterday, now to figure out how I pay it off:H Not worrying about that for now. Haven't heard from attorney, so may be on my on for the license. Will have to appear in court, hopefully Monday, although now weather plays a role. Am going to see about getting to my sister's on Sunday if she or her assistant can get me to the court the next morning. It's just a few miles from her house. Then have to deal with the DMV there. Tired just thinking about it! Working today and it ill be chaos. And tomorrow will work until 1:00 or so.

Watching the "numpties" and other tales

To start off, PPQ, I love the avatar. I had a netherland dwarf rabbit for ten years as an adult; he was an amazing fluff ball, all of four lbs. It made me remember him.

The company dinner party was interesting. First, it was drinks at a bar beforehand; I skipped that. Then, cocktails in our private room. I discreetly asked for AF options - sodas. Pretty sad selection of options. I got them to bring some AF beer to our bar; you would have thought I asked for Artic Cloudberries from Norway. When we sat at our tables, the really indulgent wine flowed. I just skipped it. As the evening wore on, everyone's barriers came down. It was a fascinating show to watch, really. Then one table did shots. BAD BAD idea. They got totally hammered. Then came the embarrassing toasts, the slurred speech, etc. I was having a lot of fun in general, but rather appauled by the drunken displays, and knew full well that was me last year. Horrifying. Then, I was the designated driver for two of the "numpties." They couldn't navigate the sidewalks. Man, I barely got them safely to the car, which turned out to be 7 minutes too late, and we could not get it out of the garage. In the end and $80 later, got a cab to take us home (they live in my neighborhood). There is nothing new to this story, except for once, it was me who was sober. I am so glad to not be a numptie.

I will tell you this, though; there were many people driving under the influence later that night. In California, you can have up to .08% AL in your bloodstream before you are legally drunk. Two years ago, I got a DUI for being .1%, after a party at my wine club. As TDN can tell you, DUIs are awful. It is mind blowing to me that the norm is to be at that dinner drinking, with SOMEONE then getting behind the wheel, and if they happen to have one glass of wine too many, then end up in a jail cell (mandatory in California). How is that an appropriate company event? If we sponsor such dinners, we should pay for the cab rides home. I plan on putting the receipt through on my expense report.

Good news on my holiday plans - I think I will be able to go to Dallas to visit family as planned. Deal flow is still crazy, but it has gotten so crazy that my boss is ready to let go of the year-end goal for the merger. Who knows, still days to come, but at this point, I'm packing our bags.
