    December Determination ~ week 4

Interesting discussion, Kas. What animal would I like to be? I have always though I would like to be a horse, but I would want to be a wild horse, not domesticated!

Rustop, I?m going to try to be more regular at posting in 2013 too.

Catbuddy, being kind to yourself is not easy at first, but with practice you?ll manage it and you will find that it pays off. Definitely better than the old form of stress relief!! Much healthier.

Rusty, thanks for answering my questions about your party. Did you feel you had to make any explanations as to why you weren?t joining them in the wine or do they know you have made a conscious decision not to drink? Also, I like your resolution to stop thinking the worst when faced with an upcoming situation. I need to practice that, too. It reminded me of the line from the Desiderata:

"Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself."

TDN, wise decision about sticking with maintaining your sobriety as you resolution. It is definitely enough!

Chill, 2012 was a year of many changes for you! I hope for you that this year is calm and peaceful. I think I will do as you did and reflect on the year?s events month by month.

Lav, That quote from Helen Keller is a good one. But honestly sometimes it is hard to choose to be happy! However, if Helen Keller could do it in spite of all her challenges, then surely I can take a crack at it as often as needed!

We'll be ringing in the new year at home and af. Happy New Year!!
    Dill

Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

      December Determination ~ week 4

Hey everyone! Best Best wishes for all for the New Year! I have just snuck away to post - my second guest in 4 days has arrived, and at the moment I have dinner to make. (On top of my step-daughter's visit the 22- 24th, the trip to be with my Mom the 24th - the 28th, things are hopping around here.)

Miss hearing all of your voices, but will catch up soon. This guest stays to the 2nd; we'll pack up the car that day, and be on the road to the desert on Dec 3rd. As we wend out way across the country I'll get caught up.

I want to thank you all for your incredible generosity of spirit, and for the guidance and support that you give with such wisdom.

      Happy New Year all!

        December Determination ~ week 4

hello my dear friends on this last day of 2012. I am here, still sick and looking forward to when coughing doesn't make me almost pass out!!
I am very happy to say goodbye to 2012 as I was to 2011 and 2010. I think we all have earned a very peaceful and prosperous 2013. Even tho an odd numbered year and traditionally a bad luck number, I have a good feeling about it.
I so admire everyone on this thread-you all have overcome adversity of one sort or the other and I'm sure we don't even know the half of it. To know I can come here any time of the day or nite and pour my heart out or just get some encouragement or laughter is so precious to me I think i would die if all of a sudden this forum ceased to exist.
I consider you all my dear friends and dream of a huge in person meetup one day. Dreams are fun aren't they?
Sp let's raise a glass of delicious fruit juice and sparkling water and toast ourselves, our families, our friends and our souls. May we be kind to ourselves first and foremost, love our fellow persons, think twice before making judgments, and celebrate this amazing thing called life.

          Dill, about choosing happiness -
I have found it gets easier with practice

cyn, you are the busy bee around here! Hope you have a wonderful trip!

papmom, you had trouble last winter with a harsh cough. Do you have an inhaler on hand, just in case?

I know 2013 is going to be a good year for all of us because I just saw this on FB

            Hey Lav,
I do get this bug just about every year at this time. My main concern is pneumonia so that's why I baby myself so much when it hits. Having asthma since 16 I am never without an inhaler as well as I have a nebulizer and lots of meds to go in it. I've been using that 2-3 times a day since yesterday.

Love the poster you found!! It describes us all to a T!

Better to take care of it now before it blossoms into something worse.

                December Determination ~ week 4

Been writing a PM to Rusty--have to do it in segments:H Have also read all the posts from today, and love learning more about everyone. Such a nice group and I feel very positive on this thread.

Pap, glad you are taking good care of yourself. Are you back to work on Wednesday? I'm sure the next few weeks will feel a little odd, knowing that you'll soon be in your new job!

Cyntree. sse that you are in CT, and I am in NH. Used to eover CT whne I was in sales, so am familiar with most of the state.

Had a nice early dinner with our friends. Just as we ere getting ready to eat, though, Mr TDN discovered that one of the dogs, most likely the old man, had had an accident in the sunroom, and he had to clean it up. That rarely happens. My poor boy did sleep a lot due to the Melatonin, but he was coughing and having more trouble than usual getting around. When we adopted him at 4 1/2, he had hip displaysia, but our holisitc vet helped a lot with that. A couple of years ago, our regular vet discovered a slow growing cancer in his right front leg. (It is a type that doesn't metasticize.) And he has a problem with his larynx. He is the sweetest boy, and I know we won't have him much longer. Having to go through this again is going to be so hard. But I want to do the right thing. He is still eating really well. He is here on the bed with me.

Watching the New Year's special and having some laughs at some of the old groups:H Bill Haley and The Comets were before my time, but he looks like a 60 yr old man in the old clip. And some of the newer ones are strange, to say the least! I know I won't make it to midnight, but that's okay. I'll be happy to wake up in 2013, and sure hope that it's a better year than the last two.

I'll be back in the morning, but wish you all a Happy AF New Year!

TDN, I know you will do right by your doggie. I'm sure he's been a good friend to you & loves you unconditionally:l

                    December Determination ~ week 4

                    Hi all,

Two more hours till midnight. I'm watching a "Criminal Minds" marathon, entertaining myself with lovely fires and comfy teas.

Rusty, to answer your questions from many hours ago ....... I'm in California, raising a beautiful nine year old son; complicated situation with my ex that I generally don't share. My family is away in other states, but I'm close to my sisters. One has been sober for 25 years after a very messy 20s. The other gave up drinking successfully, but relapsed a few years ago. She is in her 50s, a few years older than me.

I reached ROCK BOTTOM a few months ago, when as K9 puts it, drinking became more difficult than not drinking. It's been a struggle, but eases slowly. Tonight, lonely, but not at risk. I'm very grateful to be starting 2013 on a better foot than I could have imagined so recently.

Pmom, one of my sisters has asthma. I'm so sorry you are suffering. I hope you feel better soon, and take it easy until then.

Has anyone noticed the predominance of women on MWO? Any insight on this?

                    Cat
