    af day Sunday 20 Jan

Morning humans living in weather extremes!

Hope the freeze thawed Mick. Its a wee bit chilly here as its earliesh morning but not that cold. Should heat up for my cemetery walk with daughter. Yesterday I managed to get some prep for my writing done - also helped daughter to sort out the gremlins on the sewing machine (plus of my sobriety - I have more patience than before but don't worry I still managed to yell a few f...ks at the bloody thing.

hey Blondie - stay cool (really hard in Oz at the moment). Good on you for recognising the triggers. Dealing with neighbours can be soo hard. We have a fantastic view of the sea (or should have a great view) but neighbours planted some fast growing tree/shrubs a few years back on their property - and will not trim the trees. These trees are not especially lovely - even the birds avoid them. I have even offered to pay for a professional to trim said vegetation but neighbours will not agree.

Hi Cinders - good to see you posting yesterday. Gidday Kuya, SF and others - sorry to not list you all.

Mick - I will never be able to match your jokes! I really liked your serious bit about having your life being given back - I feel that way too (although literally am very very worried about how long that life will be because of my possible long term liver damage). Bit I do try to live in the day but also plan ahead as well.

Have a wonderful Sunday - what is the 3 day weekend for in the USA? I could find out by looking on Google but won't cheat.

Morning Treetops (was the name inspired by your neighbours' landscaping :H)

Enjoy the walk but watch the ankles!

In early to beat the rush! Much cooler here theses days (only 30s). Am signing up for a learning to sew course here; used a sewing machine at school, but I don't think my "treadling" skills are relevant or transferrable

    Have a fun Sunday all

Hello everyone. Still on the mini vacation in Palm Springs and still AF. But, I am a little more in debt due to the long weekend shopping.

I'm Totally out of the loop, so I trust everyone is doing well.

      Love the desert weather.

I want to apologize to everyone. My messages seem to be taken out context. That is my fault.

All I was trying to convey that some of you are "Long Term Abstainers".....and kudos to you. I never meant that you can not post here......but, if you wanted a safer environment.....there is a thread that has been created for you already.

I want all of you to post here....my laying opinion was that if someone wants AF as their goal....but, all these rules are put upon it.....they most likely will not post or come back. We have members here who stayed away too long.....because of this.

Lots of people read here....but never post. I do believe that if you have settled into AF life....there is a place for that too.

I have struggled. I want to thank whoever reccommended "UnHooked"...it is changing me....and I sent the book to about 5 friends.

So I do apologize. I do not feel welcome here anymore and I will move on. Kuya it never an attack on you.....I was just saying that if you wanted a better place to post....it is there for you. Never kicked off from here....nobody should be kicked off of posting. Sorry that you took it wrong....and that is my fault.

I am in recovery. Emotions run high. I have been to depths of this and the better side. I have nothing to offer a person that you guys can't offer. I finally realized why I relapse. Because I never deal with the real issues. UnHooked....made me realize that while I would stop drinking.....I would replace it with other behavior. Overworkiing, over working out.....ect.

Stopping the drink is one thing.....facing why I drank is another.

I wish you all well. I am sorry that I upset some people.....its time for me to leave and work on myself.

Thank you to everyone being a great support system. I thank each an everyone one of you.

SF...... To not reply to your apology would be rude, so I will choose my words carefully.

You have 'half' apologised. I, therefore, 'half' accept your apology. This is the second time between us since I joined MWO. There will not be a third.

You did not attack everyone so you did not owe everyone an apology.

You are in early recovery, you are over sensitive, you are over-reacting, it is a drama. That is no reason to stop posting.

If anyone here hasnt noticed Byrdie started a long term thread while we were all busy tearing each other apart.

Can we all now move on.

Lovely pics, glad you are having a lovely time.....but not that you are spending your NZ trip funds.....you'll have to kayak here! :H:H

And TT...... Good evening. Summer's back in Auckland, swam today ( Mick .... Did it while you were sleeping! Can't be too careful with you and your chopper :H:H)

Blondie.....bet you are relieved with the cooler weather. I can't handle extremes of weather so Oz is out of the question for me. NZ or Spain is my comfort zone.

Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
              Great chieftain o the puddin'-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place,
              Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye worthy o' a grace
              As lang's my arm.

The groaning trencher there ye fill,
Your hurdies like a distant hill,
Your pin wad help to mend a mill
              In time o need,
While thro your pores the dews distil
              Like amber bead.

His knife see rustic Labour dight,
An cut you up wi ready slight,
              Trenching your gushing entrails bright,
              Like onie ditch;
And then, O what a glorious sight,
              Warm-reekin, rich!

Then, horn for horn, they stretch an strive:
Deil tak the hindmost, on they drive,
Till a' their weel-swall'd kytes belyve
              Are bent like drums;
The auld Guidman, maist like to rive,
              'Bethankit' hums.

Is there that owre his French ragout,
Or olio that wad staw a sow,
Or fricassee wad mak her spew
              Wi perfect scunner,
Looks down wi sneering, scornfu view
              On sic a dinner?

Poor devil! see him owre his trash,
As feckless as a wither'd rash,
His spindle shank a guid whip-lash,
              His nieve a nit;
Thro bloody flood or field to dash,
              O how unfit!

              But mark the Rustic, haggis-fed,
The trembling earth resounds his tread,
Clap in his walie nieve a blade,
              He'll make it whissle;
An legs an arms, an heads will sned,
              Like taps o thrissle.

Ye Pow'rs, wha mak mankind your care,
And dish them out their bill o fare,
Auld Scotland wants nae skinking ware
              That jaups in luggies:
But, if ye wish her gratefu prayer,
              Gie her a Haggis

              Translation tomorrow!!!

Morning tree...this computer nearly joined the bloody sewing machine!!! lost the thread..but thankfully had copied it!!!

Hiya Cantoo....how are you?glad you are enjoying your break...boy bet you are glad you got a pic of that engine..least you know its there and working!!:H have a great time

Hi SF..it would be rude of me not to reply to your post.......

The issue became personal between you an Kuya, tho why I dont know...it was me that started it all
Yes there is a thread been started which I think will be very good
As you rightly say the af thread is a safe haven and a good place to post..the rules are...there are no rules, but the expectation is that e behave decently and civilly to each other.
Black and white lettering is somewhat as it says..there is no room for interpretation as in face to face etc,so that needs to be remembered
The phrase long term abstainers, I find confusing..it is relative...but to what the guy next door, down the street people on this site, or the amount of life I wasted drinking? all it is really is that some people have embraced an af way of life earlier than others.
Asfor the emotions running high etc I appreciate that..having been there as I would suspect have most others, but we have to be objective with them..not subjective
You say you never deal with the real issues..may I suggest that it would be a good starting point.
Finally...I believe in this thread totally I have great pride in being part of this site particularily this thread. It showed me that the power of support and friendship could help me...without any medication, and it did... when I think back to some of those dark shitty times to where I am now there is no contest..but to get there I had to work at it be honest with myself and threw my all into this. You say it is not for you any more..that is personal choice..but the support will be there should you choose to take it and address your issues...take care SF..I wish you well

Wow this thread has taken a wee bit ..apologies for the length of it..few jokes then I will be done..have a great day

One evening a family brings their frail, elderly mother to a nursing home and leaves her, hoping she will be well cared for. The next morning, the nurses bathe her, feed her a tasty breakfast, and set her in a chair at a window overlooking a lovely flower garden.
She seems OK, but after a while she slowly starts to lean over sideways in her chair. Two attentive nurses immediately rush up to catch her and straighten her up. Again she seems OK, but after a while she starts to tilt to the other side. The nurses rush back and once more bring her back upright. This goes on all morning. Later the family arrives to see how the old woman is adjusting to her new home. “So Ma, how is it here? Are they treating you all right?” they ask.
“It’s pretty nice,” she replies. “Except they won’t let you fart.”

A man absolutely hated his wife’s cat and decided to get rid of him one day by driving him 20 blocks from his home and leaving him at the park.
As he was getting home, the cat was walking up the driveway.
The next day he decided to drive the cat 40 blocks away. He put the beast out and headed home.
Driving back up his driveway, there was the cat!
He kept taking the cat further and further and the cat would always beat him home. At last he decided to drive a few miles away, turn right, then left, past the bridge, then right
again and another right until he reached what he thought was a safe distance from his home and left the cat there.
Hours later the man calls home to his wife: “Jen, is the cat there?”
“Yes”, the wife answers, “why do you ask?”
Frustrated, the man answered, “Put that son of a bitch on the phone, I’m lost and need directions!”

A truck driver amused himself by running over lawyers as they walked down the side of the road. Every time he saw a lawyer walking along the road, he would swerve to hit him. There would be a loud “thud”, and then he would swerve back on the road.
As the truck driver drove along one day, he saw a priest hitch hiking, he pulled over and asked the priest, “Where are you going, Father?”
The priest said he was on his way to his church up the road.
              “I’ll give you a lift.”
The priest climbed into the passenger seat and the truck driver continued down the road. Suddenly, the truck driver saw a lawyer walking down the road and instinctively swerved to hit him. At the last minute, he remembered he had a priest in the truck and swerved back onto the road. Even though he knew he missed the lawyer, he still heard a loud “thud.” Unsure of where the noise came from, he glanced in his mirrors. When he didn?t see anything, he turned to the priest and said, “I’m sorry, Father. I almost hit a lawyer.”
The priest replied, “That’s OK, I got him with the door.”

Two men were sitting next to each other at a bar.
After a while, one guy looks at the other and says, “I can’t help but think, from listening to you, that you’re from Ireland.”
The other guy responds proudly, “Yes, that I am!”
The first guy says, “So am I! And where about from Ireland might you be?”
The other guy answers, “I’m from Dublin, I am.”
The first guy responds, “Sure and begora, and so am I! And what street did you live on in Dublin?”
The other guy says, “A lovely little area it was, I lived on McCleary Street in the old central part of town.”
The first guy says, “Faith & it’s a small world, so did I! And to what school would you have been going?”
The other guy answers, “Well now, I went to St. Mary’s of course.”
The first guy gets really excited, and says, “And so did I. Tell me, what year did you graduate?”
The other guy answers, “Well, now, I graduated in 1964.”
The first guy exclaims, “The Good Lord must be smiling down upon us! I can hardly believe our good luck at winding up in the same bar tonight. Can you believe it, I graduated from St. Mary’s in 1964 my own self.”
About this time, another guy walks into the bar, sits down, and orders a beer.
The bartender walks over shaking his head & mutters, “It’s going to be a long night tonight, the Murphy twins are drunk again.

              />General Ways to Annoy People

Accuse people of "glue sniffing addictions" in public.
Add blank entries to a list, to make it look like it's longer.
Adjust the tint on your TV so that all the people are green, and insist to others that you "like it that way".
After visiting the local donut shop, sit on the floor cross-legged and insist in a childish voice that you haven't received enough chocolate sprinkles.
Announce when you're going to the bathroom.
Answer every question with another question. As soon as one of you says a statement instead of a question, shout "I win!".
Any time a member of the opposite sex tries to talk to you, hold your hand up to prevent them from saying anything and say, "Look, I know what you're going to ask me... For the last time, no, I will NOT go out with you."
Arrive at a meeting late, say you're sorry, but you didn't have time for lunch, and you're going to be nibbling during the meeting. Then eat raw potatoes.
As much as possible, skip rather than walk.
As people talk, smell their shoulders.
              Ask 1-800 operators for dates.
Ask people to prove everything they say. (e.g. "I'm Bob, nice to meet you..." "PROVE IT!")
Ask people what gender they are.
Ask the waitress for an extra seat for your "imaginary friend."
              Ask to "interface" with someone.
Ask your co-workers mysterious questions and then scribble their answers in a notebook. Mutter something about "psychological profiles."
At a golf tournament, chant "swing-batabatabata-suhWING-batter!"
At a restaurant, repeatedly send your food back for changes and after awhile insist that, "This isn't what I ordered!"
At lunch time, sit in your parked car with sunglasses on and point a hair dryer at passing cars. See if they slow down.

                af day Sunday 20 Jan

Good morning/afternoon/evening Afers wherever you may be,

I used to post on this thread a long time ago. It is a good thread. I stopped because I was not staying sober and felt like a hypocrite.

However, it is a good thread, filled with people desiring to stay sober. The support is wonderful and helpful.

I have found that many of us who become newly sober are dealing with emotions and feelings we have tamped down for many years with our drinking. This is part of our recovery, learning to deal with life on life's terms. (An AA saying.)

If something posted makes you hurt or angry, step back and let it go. Although many things about AA do not feel right for me, understanding that resentments are deadly for us alcoholics is one of their tenets, and they are right.

Remember that we can only conjecture what someone else is feeling or thinking. All we can do is know what is in our own hearts and minds.

Lav alluded to this yesterday. Stay on an even keel and do not let yourself get embroiled in useless resentments. She has a lot of sober time under her belt so I would listen very carefully to what she has to say.

As to myself. It is wonderful to wake up every day sober and not worry about when I can get my next bottle or how to hide my next drunk. I am looking forward to finally being a long termer again.

                Love to all,
                Cindi

                  Evening abs

Hi Cinders; how's your Sunday going?

Hi CanToo; isn't Palm Springs in Fla?

Hi Kuya - pool sounds a great idea. Do you swim in the sea too (think it'd be a bit cold though?) We had a whale shark in the water the other day - a bit far south for them. (OK, please be aware I am making the connection between our respective water temperatures, NOT, I repeat, NOT, making any connection to you swimming and any mammalian sea creature. Honest

Mick - Burns' night - love how the expat communities get into these events - another excuse for a pss up!

SF - all the very best whatever you chose to do.

I eventually got my security camera connected. After 3 returns to shop and about 4 hours trying and phone support. Thought about getting an iPad to view cam remotely (and everyone's got one!) but I don't know that we'd make much use of it due to using Windows, etc.?

Heading off for a few days tomorrow, so have a great aff week.
                  .

                      af day Sunday 20 Jan

                      Blondie,

I eventually got my security camera connected. After 3 returns to shop and about 4 hours trying and phone support. Thought about getting an iPad to view cam remotely (and everyone's got one!) but I don't know that we'd make much use of it due to using Windows, etc.?
Microsoft is entering the fray by putting the Windows OS on many devices. You may want to wait until a Windows pad comes out? (If it hasn't already.) It may even be less expensive. I grimace every time I look at the cost of any Apple product. I like their products but not that much.

                        af day Sunday 20 Jan

Good morning Abbers from sunny but chilly PA

TT, neighbors & overgrown yards....yes, I have had a few of them in the past
Luckily around here the neighbors are far enough away so that stuff is no longer an issue. I thought it was hysterical when I first moved here that the neighbor lady offered the use of her two goats to clean up any unwanted plants in the hedgerow between our properties :H

Greetings blondie & the vacationing CanToo!

SF, I am sorry that you are feeling so uncomfortable. You have to do what is best for you & your recovery.

Hey Kuya! We are similar in a lot of ways
I was raised with 3 brothers & I learned early the importance of defending myself :H

Mick, thanks for the coffee this morning!
While you Googled Pennsylvania did you happen to read anything about the Mason Dixon line?
Mason–Dixon line - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
That's right where I live surrounded by towns named Nottingham, New London & Oxford.
Yeah, the Brits were definitely here first but then they went home :H

Cindi, wonderful to see you again! I hope you stick with us & continue on your AF path with us!!!

Wishing everyone a wonderful AF Sunday!
I have to go take care of my feathered friends now!

                          af day Sunday 20 Jan

                          Morning DAF'ers

TT...thanks for the kickoff. Hope you enjoyed your cemetery walk with your daughter. Mick does have a way with words, I feel the same way.

Blondie...good morning. I actually know what you mean by "treadling" skills. :H

CT...glad you're enjoying your mini vaca and remaining AF. Great pics. An oil company wants to put windmills on one of the properties we have in Saskatchewan. Could be posting a pic of my own windmills soon.

SF...good morning. No apologies needed. I just :sofa: till it all blew over. You do whatever it is you feel you have to. Thanks for the heads up on "UnHooked" I'll be checking that out. Know that we're here and your welcome to come home at anytime.

KY...morning and yup I saw Byrdie's thread. Glad your summer's back, take advantage, sounds like it could be gone tomorrow.

Mick...good morning and thanks for the coffee. Good to see you have this Sunday off, not good it's because of the freezing weather.
Lawyer meeting on Friday was positive. Looks like we're going to go the mediation/arbitration route in March. Means everything will be over and done in one day. :yay:
In regards to the Community Garden, our Board of Director's said F**K the city we'll do it ourselves. So now have funding available and a "garden guru" on board for all the logistics. Although the start up will take a lot of work I am really looking forward to it.

Cinders...good morning. Resentment is a biggie for me right now. Dealing with deceiving/unqualified guardians to my Dad, and an ex who feels everything is my fault including his cancer. Finding my responsibility in all of this takes it's toll but will help to dissolve a very big trigger for me.

Blondie...morning and :goodjob: on the security cameras. Enjoy your few days off.

Don't think Micks coming by with the refills so I'm off to get my own. Have a great AF Sunday all and all to come...PPQP

                          X-Post :hallo: Morning Lav.

                            af day Sunday 20 Jan

Morning all! Trying to check in via iPhone. Mick, the laffs section was perfection again. The Murphy twins and How to Annoy being my favs. There was some thing there that I do on a regular basis... what was it? Oh yeah, announcing when I'm heading to the loo. As a rehearsal pianist if you don't call it out, you just never get to go. Always gets a laugh from my cast.
Gorgeous sunshiny day today. Sending your How to Annoy to a deeply depressed friend with a similar sense of humor.
                            Up and at 'em!

                              af day Sunday 20 Jan

Good morning all, thanks TT for pitching the thread and to Mick for fielding it, In my first year I read this thread and posted on it every single day. Because I live on Pacific Standard Time, I was often the last to post in the morning, and the last one at night too. I did not have another living soul to discuss my successes or struggles with, this place was it. I got my butt kicked for suggesting i might like to try moderating, after about 4 months or so, and I was deeply chagrined but I really appreciated the honesty and experience of the people who set me straight. Be honest with yourself was the message I got. And of course, as Cinders has pointed out, be honest on the thread.

I made the mistake of being honest with someone here who was laying the blame for her problems on everyone but herself, she was angry about that, I could have been a bit more soft spoken. I am very proud of this particular person, because she has sucked it up, made a better life for herself, and moved on into sobriety. I will always feel badliy that I might have been too harsh with her. I have helped a few people too, but mostly through encouragement and information or advice.

Lav always seems to be able to dish an arse kicking out in a way that has you smile through your tears, I dont know how she does it, but she does. I hope Sunflower reads this and realises that all of us are pulling for you. We hope you will address what it is that takes you back to alcohol, and let us help you see your way out of that and into a normal life, which I know you really want.

What I am saying is, can we go a bit easier on her, and not let her wander off, because we know where that ends up.

I sometimes think that if I really want to live a completely normal life, I have to stop coming here. But for some reason I do come back. The people change and shift, and some leave and new ones come. I read that the failure rate is huge, its like 95% in the US and Canada, and even higher in Great Britain and Australia, but I honestly think it is better that those numbers for this particular site. Which is huge. For all the difficulties and disagreements, we really DO serve a grander purpose.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday. I am going up for a quick ski, and to spend the day collecting ski fees for the club. A day of talking to skiers, keeping the woodstove going.... It should be lovely.

PS Lav: most of the English didnt go home .... they headed north! My dads family came to the Niagra Peninsula in the 1750s or thereabouts, from somewhere in the northeastern United States, United Empire Loyalists. I would love to see the Mason Dixon line and wander around in all that historical stuff you have there. Our white settler history in the Kootenay Region is only about 200 years old, max, thats it. Before that it was the Lakes People, and they have been lost in the mists of time.
