I'm going to be lying tonight at our cheese and wine night. I'm on a diet excuse. Although a bet I get accused of being pregnant. I will tell people about my alochol problem when I'm good and ready. Only on day two.

You right only when you are ready - nobody needs to know - and if they think you pregnant so what - I look pregnant after all the Alcohol anyway. - so if some had to say are you pregnant I will say "No just fat" that should keep them away from me.

you are so right people dont like change..even close friends can feel a bit threatened if you stop drinking..maybe it highlights their drink problems? that they arent ready to look at.

My experience has been most people i have met who dont drink ..its been because they have been problem drinkers and have now given up.

My mom never drank...because she married an alcoholic and had 22 years of chaos bringing up us 4 kids!

I think as drinkers sometimes we have felt more comfortable with other drinkers hence all our friends tend to be people who use alcohol for recreation / self medicating etc.

for myself i havent wanted to share this attempt at cutting the booze with eveybody so I have been lcuky to be doing this AF stuff with hubby and a close friend for support. The 3 of us are 32 days AF today!!

Why not tell you relatives you are on a healthy eating programme to get fit for the summer and to shed the winter surplus punds..however that might get you odd looks when you tuck into massive dinners!!

Say you are recovering from upset tum? doing a detox thing where its caffeine free and water only...whatever you do dont set yourself up to fail by confiding in them stuff about the booze habit and for them to scrutinise you and spoilt the weekend for you. people go on and on and on ifthey realise tou dont drink. Its as though some people see it as their right to know Why!!!

Have a good weekend..dont drink if you can manage it and leave for home with no embarrasing memories of talking crap whilst under the influence...its a grat feeling and YOU CAN DO IT !!

First I try telling my mates that I am pregnant - but (surprisingly) they don't believe me - so I just put on a manic Jack Nicholson leer and say OK - The real reason I cant drink is because if I do, the voices in my head tell me to do BAAAAAD things!

Lori - with me all Topa-ed up not much taste for beer, I'm afraid. Just the thought of liquid iron makes me puke, grin ...

No all in all, doing REALLY fine. The fact that I've got my alcohol habit in check makes it so much easier to move things on with my personal relationship. So who knows? Maybe Paddy will finally get hitched this year. Sorry Kimmy (talking about the next turn, ha, ha).
