    af Saturday 6 July

Lav, I grew up in a really small town on the NY border. Erie is still the big city to them. Left for Cleveland after college. Now in TN for the last 3 years. I absolutely do not miss the snow. Went to PA for Christmas....the blizzard and all. Went outside to play in the snow and lasted all of 10 minutes!

YAH....I forgot to say that I enjoyed your reunion story. Classic.

Also, I do know many good people in AA. But, many seem to think that FEAR will keep someone sober. It made me nearly suicidal when I could not stay sober and felt like I was hopeless.

I know it works for many. Honestly, I think men get a much healthier support system than women.

This is just for fun. I have a friend who is a songwriter. I was googling him.....and found a bar on FB that has his name. It's an open page....so I see them posting things (comics) that actually would keep someone sober. "Something about today makes want to have a hangover tomorrow". No thanks.

SF I'm glad you found an alternative to AA that works, it's whatever works for each of us, I have found an attitude of ' unless you do AA you're in denial and doing it wrong' approach - in some AAers.

I like SMART recovery's approach CBT based about changing thinking and behaviours - they have UK meetings now as well and there is one down the road from me.I am by no means someone who has found long term success with sobriety yet - and I do find some aspects of AA useful - ODAT and the book 'living sober' in particular.
