    af Friday 19 July

MAE abby people! Its another drizzly day in Paradise - although I can see a large kereru (wood pigeon) in the bushes. Very eerie but atmospheric. If it were not morning it could be a vampire set!

June - too miserable here weatherwise for a 12 km walk like you. I don't bother with keeping track of the kms usually, as we live in such a hilly place that even a short walk can be a workout. So much so that many people from here get bored walking on the flat!

Mick - I love rhodos. Continuing on the walking theme in my previous life G. and I did a wonderful mountainous trek through in Northern India/Himalayas and there were huge rhodo trees in bloom. Did you know that the sap from the flowers can make a very potent AL drink. Sherpas drink it and tourists too - actually I never tried it. I preferred my chai instead.

PPQP - can't think how to weave walking into your work and legal horrors - but don't walk away! You are a strong lady and being AF as you know gives you the edge. It really helps me in my work these days.

YAH - hope the interview goes OK and that you are back in your dancing shoes soon.

SF - how are the braces? Teenagers have a lot to deal with - much of which is out of their control. We parents (but also other adult friends/family) are so important even if we have to learn to take a back seat. You are doing a great job - even from the confines of the pool!

You too Cat - great job - being a parent, keeping off the booze and being brave with a new relationship.

Blondie - diving ay? probably too hot to go for long hikes in Western Australia for most of the time.

Cinders - hows the incipient cleaning business set-up? We have someone who comes in for a few hours a week - although I think its mainly to force us to pick up!

Hi there Det. Are you on the road at the moment? I made parsley and almond pesto last night - it was just a made up recipe - but family loved it. Had it with a little pasta, plus sole fillets and salad.

The bird in the garden has shifted - so its time for me to move my bum. Today is a day of dealing with other people's matters - some work related and some and some for family.

OK - time to fly away - flap flaparrot:

I like posting on the next days thread. Usually I post so late at night that I am not sure if anyone sees it

TT-he is surviving the braces. Today he was sore and a real crank to deal with. I am not looking forward to the teenage years, but grateful to be doing it sober.

WE-it is so weird to read of it being so cold, when it is so hot here. Someone said today that their sweat was sweating.

YAH-great job on the interview! If you need I think anyone of us here would be a reference

PQ-so glad you are feeling better. I hate being overwhelmed. My mind seems to shut down and I can't get anything done until I get focused.

Det-a plane crash! So glad DX is ok. I have to check out those food apps.

Mick-yippee on no surgery! I think the problem is that most will opt for surgery vs. putting in the effort to avoid it. You help so many people here. I am one of them. The suffering we lived with is hard to see in other people. When we can help, it is a good feeling. And those that don't want help.....are vital reminders of where I never want to be again.

Almost forgot Lav! I think I am trying to block out the thought of having two tiny ones. Those years were exhausting....but, at least yours go home.

Hubby got a good job doing what he loves to do. So much pressure taken off of me.

Today I decided to drop out of massage school. The first semester was one thing. After the first week of anatomy....it just sucked up too much of my precious family time. It's something I can go back to later. Right now it is much more important to raise my kids during these vital years.

I live in the South-considered the Bible Belt. I had posted on FB something about the Chamber of Commerce praying before a luncheon. This would be taboo in the North. My crazy Aunt Ellen (literally) sends me a message about being a Christian. I replied that the South had been good for my faith. I get a long e-mail back about each family member that "needs to be saved", namely my parents:H

Even though i am finding strength at Celebrate....please know I am in no way becoming a preachy shove God down anyone's throat. Nor am I out to save anybody:H. Lets just say she did not like my reply. I hate when people behave in that manner.

However, I called my Dad.....and we had not laughed together like that in awhile.

Det - read your post properly - so glad to hear that Dx is safe.

SF-I think teenagers get too much bad press. Sure some deserve it and there are ordeals but there are always horror stories for each stage of a child's life. (and adults too). I recall reading about the "Terrible Twos" - well we never experienced that. In our family we have had our trying periods and developmental challenges - but sometimes the experts and the self-help parenting books (and family/friends) really over-generalize. Many people also want their kids to be perfect or 'the best at something'. Many parents gloat too much about their darlings. And that creates stress not just for the children but for the parents.
I am not especially tolerant of being around young people (esp en masse) but I do think they need support and respect
        just my 2 cents worth....

            I am KID FREE TODAY!
But I do have a lot of catching up to do in my business today. At least it will be quiet & sticky hand free
Your garden looks wonderful Mick, nice fence work too!

Greetings TT, Witts, SF & everyone!
Both of my kids had braces, I do remember all that angst & the cost. But I think it was the best thing for them, they both have nice smiles today.

OK, off to get some work done & squeeze a Curves trip in as well!
My Quitnet email said I am 50 months smoke free today - yay!

              MAE ALL...

TT...thanks for kicking us off. Nope not walking away from anything, just need to take a breather every now and then. Quick question...how does a wood pigeon shift?

WE...I'm going to wait till he snow falls to start my spring cleaning. :H

SF...there you are, couldn't find you. :H I never felt right posting on tomorrows thread today but you do make a good point. I, for one, read the last of yesterdays posts before heading into the "now" just so I don't miss anything. I think you've made a wise decision in regards to your family. That time will be gone before you know it. Keep up the good work, you are sounding so strong these days.

Mick...thanks for the hug and the coffee. Yup that would be the polite way of saying what I think of my lawyer. The fence looks great, you really have this work/reward thing down packed. Found the bunnies. :H

Lav...congrats on 50 months. Hope your kid free day goes as planned.

Should be an interesting day at work as the boss never did show up yesterday. He may not have deadlines but I definitely do. It seems these days he just doesn't care anymore. I think retirement is on his mind and it's definitely having an effect on the moral in the office. Happy to report that I feel confident in my job and I tend to sit back and snicker about all the crap going on.

Off to read the jokes with my second cuppa. Have a great AF Friday all and all to come.,,PPQP

                  Aloha Friday ABerooooos!

TreeTops, thanks for the start. and minus the pasta this sounds perfect and yummy: I made parsley and almond pesto last night - it was just a made up recipe - but family loved it. Had it with a little pasta, plus sole fillets and salad.

I'm also a 'make it up as you go along' kind of gourmet. I find recipes to be stifling and takes the fun out of it for me. not only that, but it forces us to exercise our creative mind.

Mick, great news on the no-surgery. PT should do you wonders.

boy can I pick the weather or what? this weekend I have 26 hours of desert training and it will be the two hottest days of the year. yikes! I guess it doesn't get anymore realistic than that. I'm hydrating now..... glug glug.

no way I'd be doing that hung over. no freaking way.

                  be well family

                      mae peeps

Det - yikes - what a shock Dx must have gotten! Glad she's OK. Has it put her off those little planes now?! I'd love to be able to cook creatively without the aid of recipes, but when I do that, it turns out some inedible crap that I try and force myself to eat so it doesn't go to waste (and can hear my mum telling me to think of those starving kids in Biafra!!)

Mick - super job on the fencing. And the bunny pics were gorgeous! Bigger greenhouse - think you're going to need a bigger garden soon! 38 degrees is very hot for UK.

PPQ - not getting involved in work crap makes life so much easier; great to sit on the sidelines and watch the politics play out - smiling, as you say!

Lav - congrats on the 50 months smoke free. 3 days kid free? Just time to fix the house up before they descend again.:H

YaH - hope you hear before too long about the job.

:hiya: hope everyone is doing well.

                        Mae, everyone

Tired and end of day, but I missed yesterday so I'm just checking in. Lots of solid living going on this thread, yeah!

Det, I just want to say be safe! I'll be thinking of you and hoping it's not too miserable. Why do people live in deserts? I grew up in one in West Texas, and always thought it was awful. Now I live on a peninsula with water to my east and west, and with a creek behind my backyard. In the summer, the tiny tree frogs serenade me. It's pretty neat.

PPQP, I'm inspired by your attitude at work. I get tied up in knots over work issues, and while I do need to address them, I also need to find peace while doing so. Do you have a secret here?

Blondie, good to see you hopping by more often.

Sleepy so I'll stop before this becomes blather.
