    af day Wednesday 24th

    howdy doody ABeroooooos!

after 8 hours of driving, here I am at another hotel. weeeeeeeee thud. need to stretch a little.

....ok that's better. hooray to No Sugar!!! and I love your name btw.

yes, the online world is a fascinating option for research but you need to discriminate with caution. this is one of the reasons I spend many an hour here: Home - PubMed - NCBI
researching medical trials and data from properly conducted studies. not from trends, hype, ideological or sales driven sources. I'm only interested in the hard, cold facts on nutrition.

YAH, i don't have a huge aversion to legumes/beans but there are certainly better foods with much easier digestion and much higher nutritional density. if you are eating beans as a protein source consider that a 1/2 cup serving has a measly 4-9 grams of protein and a huge whack of carbs, which is not a very good trade-off. 1/2 cup of cottage cheese will yield 28 grams of protein by comparison. beans also are packed with natures own pesticides (lectins) as well as other enzyme binding chemicals which can inhibit vitamin/mineral absorption. you can make them much more digestible and reduce the lectin load by soaking them for 24 hours in water. ideally, sprout them! I absolutely love lentil sprouts.
the sprouting process makes them tons more nutritious and digestible to boot.

yes, stress factors in modern life are a modifier that needs to be taken into account. this is why the importance of sleep in a 'really' dark room, avoiding blue wavelength light an hour or two before bedtime, making time for 'play', debriefing your day with friends/family are important cofactors in the paleo lifestyle. it's not just diet.

I'm sure that driving and being on the computer for very long hours is taking its toll on me. with that, I'm off to find the hotel gym and do something to simulate running from a sabre-tooth tiger!

    be well my friends

oh, I forgot a biggie: drinking really good clean water. we drink it every single day and lots of it.

at home I use a berkey water filter and start with well water. I just took a sip of the tap water in the hotel and gagged. ugh!

Thanks, Det. I just made a mess of black bean chili, and I boiled the heck out of the beans before hand. I will try eating more sprouted beans though.

Does anyone really eat a half-cup serving of anything? I sure don't, whether it is protein, beans, cottage cheese, veggies, and yes, ice-cream, when I indulge.

Blondie, lucky, a friend from subscriber's, reminded me to send a thank you. She is very business savvy, which I am not. It never hurts. I have to call tomorrow to check it out. I am not overly optimistic, and I'm going back and forth between feeling optimistic and depressed. Blah.....I'm glad it's bedtime and I can go read.

YAH, lets get sprouting! it's great fun for kids to get involved in too. like a nature/science experiment on the kitchen counter.

there is another interesting detriment to our neolithic lifestyle many folks aren't aware of. it's the overuse of antibacterial soap, and the lack of contact with have with our Earth. our species developed in concert with soil-born bacteria and microbes which actually educate our gut biome and therefore our immune system. Modern affluent society typically has very little of this contact and we have ignorant immune systems that overreact when they come in contact with very natural elements of nature.

so get out and play in the yard with your kids and pets! go barefoot on the soil. do some gardening. it's truly important for mind and body.

SunFlower, you found me out! Yes, I'm the former crazed flag-sewing mom. :H I'd forgotten about that. You've been around a long time too. I haven't sewn flags since 2006.

Det, yes, let's go play in the dirt and sprout some sprouts! I've never felt comfortable being too squeaky clean.
