    Onward October - Week 1

    Greetings...

Hope October is another great month for all of us. Being AF despite life situations is challenging but so worth it.

Rusty, love the suggestion for the monthly name. I was brain dead yesterday.

Lav, setting limits with kids is the only way to go.

    Dill, appreciate your continued posting.

To all, have a great Oct. 1 .

The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time.

Hello everyone and thank you Star for getting October underway.

I thought this quote was just perfect for the start of the month. Abe Lincoln seems to have known about the importance of a single day. I doubt if he was referring to abststinence, but who knows?

Good morning ladies & gentlemen & happy October

Abe Lincoln was wise in many ways. I have eliminated so much stress from my life by focusing on the only thing we really have ~ TODAY

I watched the boys last evening while their parents went out for their anniversary dinner. Both boys left in tears, I think they were exhausted :H
YB was here to give me a hand with them. I have to admit it's getting harder to maintain the upper hand with these little guys - it's good to have back up!

Cool this morning but it's heading up to near 80 degrees this afternoon.
I am free today so I am going to focus on getting some projects done for the November craft show & maybe get a few windows cleaned (my most non-favorite job).

I asked my son last night if DC was going to continue to pay him to go to work with the government shutdown. He said the fire & police departments have been reassured they will be paid. I'm glad to hear that

Wishing everyone a terrific AF Tuesday!

        Good morning...

Really upsetting about gov't shutdown. Congress needs to do their jobs.

Lav, I am just living in today, the above comment is being let go. So glad YB is helping you, little boys can be a handful.

Dill, loved the quote. Abe Lincoln was such a complicated man, I loved the movie I saw in the winter about the fight in congress. Things have not really changed, have they?

Really busy day yesterday, I have been feeling strong and good. Onward for another great day.

          Good morning friends!

Ended having a nice day with my daughter & granddaughter yesterday
I kept Ms Lily busy for a while getting some things done in my shop & her Mama worked on her school work.

Oddly warm weather here right now, not thrilled because I was enjoying the cool stiff
Not much we can do about that, huh?

I had a chance to send happy birthday wishes to LBH this week on Facebook - still miss her here.
Papmom pops up every now & then too - she's been a busy lady!

Sending greetings to everyone & wishes for a Happy AF Humpday!

            Greetings all,

My goodness, the thread is down to a trickle! I'm having a bit of a down day today. It seems like sometimes when I think about things, I simply become overwhelmed by the road ahead. I must remember not to think beyond today on those occasions.

I found a volunteer opportunity I'm going to explore. It is working at a local food pantry. My first day is Oct. 15.

Have a good AF hump day everyone.:h

              I totally understand Dill :l
If I let my thinking take over, things can go downhill quite quickly.

Do yourself a favor & look at my favorite website:
The ToDo Institute: Mindfulness, Procrastination, and Gratitude using Morita and Naikan Therapies
The readings & books are very helpful & so are their online courses!
The food pantry will love having you join their ranks - that's great!

Today I am focusing on removing stink bugs from my house - how gross :upset:

                Hi Everybody,

I made it safely home and just wanted to check in before I go to dinner with a dear friend.

Dill:l-thank you again and again for the quotes. I appreciated particularly the one about the future, and that it comes one day at a time. Loved it. Thanks for taking the time to post it. I am sorry you are feeling down today....life gets overwhelming sometimes, doesn't it? I am delighted you will be volunteering at the food pantry. Absolutely, those people will be so grateful for your kind soul, and your reassuring smile.

Star-I am glad you have been feeling strong. It's great feeling, isn't it?

Lav-it does seem like YB is making an effort...but I know it comes and goes. Enjoy it while you can....and use him, use him, use him.:H I am so glad you sent LBH b-day wishes. How I miss her.

Another gorgeous day today and the fall colors are spectacular. A long walk on the lake path, girly girl pleasures, and now off for a brief workout. At the end of my drinking career, I didn't even appreciate days like this. They just made me sadder. And you know, I thought when I quit drinking...I would have all this extra time on my hands. What the hell happened?:H All I do is run, run, run. LOL.

I don't know if you guys knew that Persephone 1 moved to CA, got her dream job, is closer to her daughter, and her pain has decreased by 70%. She posted on another thread, and she thinks the pain has diminished because of the CA climate. Can't argue with that.

Gotta fly. Have a lovely AF evening. :-)

                  Good morning...

Dill, thanks for the quote, we just have to get through whatever feelings we have, because we know that they will pass. Oh, not if we are drinking, though. Sorry you are having a down day, thinking about the future, the unknown scary future can lead to anxiety, for me at least. It is so important to stay in today, because right now is OK. I think volunteering at the food pantry sounds so interesting. Hope it works out. I know the thread is smaller, I just think that as AF time builds, many do not want to keep posting. I like to be reminded to always be aware. Plus, love talking to all of you.

Lav, they changed the weather forecast, now we have a few more days of warmth till the cold front comes through.

Rusty, sounds like a great day at home. It is so true that AF we can appreciate a beautiful day, and all the little things cause we are not sick and tired/hungover. Thanks for the new on Persephone, I wonder if being AF, doing what she likes, and family have helped with the pain level too? Great to hear that she is doing well.

Trying to wake up here, a cup of coffee is helping!!! ):

                    Good morning friends

Enjoying my coffee as well Star. I turned the AC back on yesterday not so much because of the heat but my allergies were getting out of control.

Hey Rusty, glad to see you as well
Nice to hear Persephone is doing well. I love a story with a happy ending!
I found I was busy & in constant motion yesterday from 6:30 am - 9:30 PM & didn't even watch kids :H I wonder how the hell we had time to drink :H :H

Hope your day is better today Dill. I find I rarely ever have two crappy days in a row anymore. I think a lot of it has to do with the new habits I developed: 1. keeping my thinking positive & 2. running my gratitude list thru my head at least once a day

Now on the topic of stink bugs.............
I hand picked 72 stink bugs from my kitchen & living room yesterday!!!!!
                    How gross is that??????
I did take myself to Walmart yesterday & bought a new high powered Black & Decker hand vacuum but the battery took 9 hours to charge. So today, when the afternoon sun draws them in again I will resume battle!!!!! GAG!!!!

Have a great AF Thursday everyone!

                      Greetings AF Friends,
Thanks for all the support and good wishes. I am having a better day today. It is definitely helpful to take it one day at a time and not get ahead of one's self. Still, navigating life does require planning and planning does involve taking a peek at the future and what outcomes you would like to have. The trick is then to set a course and take the actions necessary in the now to achieve those outcomes and not dwell on all the steps ahead, if you know what I mean. Sometimes you get hit with a tsunami!

Lav, thanks for the link. I went there right away and it did help! Sorry about the stink bugs. We don't seem to have that problem here yet. I wish you all the best in your battle. My problem at this time of year is the wolf spiders that seem to think they would like to winter over inside my house. Yiikes!!! You should see the size of some of them! It's frightening.

                      Rusty,
At the end of my drinking career, I didn't even appreciate days like this. They just made me sadder. And you know, I thought when I quit drinking...I would have all this extra time on my hands. What the hell happened? All I do is run, run, run. LOL.
I know exactly what you mean about not appreciating the days. I was always too caught up in the cycle of hangover, then planning to get more, getting more, drinking more, hiding the empties etc. It really pushed away the enjoyment of the world around me. Sure, it helped numb the worries and stresses, but it certainly didn't eliminate them or help get at the source of what was causing them. And in the end it was a problem in itself. Anyway, I am happy to have navigated yesterday without wine. And this morning while dropping the kids off at school and day care, I saw a rainbow! I took it as a good sign.

Star, Yes thinking about the unknown future is scary. Best laid plans....I am doing all I can to make the future brighter for this family, but things happen that are beyond my control. That's the stuff that was worrying me yesterday. Still, all I can do is control my part in things, so that is what I will focus on. By the way, I stopped reading, Redeemed. I liked some of it, but after awhile I thought, I just can't relate to this person. I started skimming and then just gave up. Thought I should let you and Rusty know. You may have a different take and like I said, I found some of her insights interesting. But I'm looking for a new read now. I downloaded a book called Giovvani's Room by James Baldwin. I'll let you know how I get on with it.

Cyn, Witts, Papmom, Paguy, Lurkers, have a great AF Thursday!
