    Wed AF 23 October

MAE (that's Morning, Afternoon, Evening for those who might be confused with our lingo). Its great to see so many posts yesterday for this group. In fact I have been almost unable to keep up ? as its been a busy day at work ? plus confession ? I went shopping. Yeah, so much for saving money when you quit AL. You loose weight, have to buy new clothes ? then new shoes, - and because you look different you can wear new colours ? how sad (sob sob sob). :upset::upset:

I won?t respond to everyone ? just get the thread started for Wednesday. Its already late afternoon here and I have to get dinner (what we Kiwis call ?tea?) on. No gourmet extravanganzas tonight.

Some really great points made about this group, and posting etc from you all. Please don?t think of us as the ?big kids? as we are vulnerable souls ? we make mistakes ? we are proud of our sobriety but its not a badge to wave about. Pride goeth etc etc (SF ? help me out ? you should know your scriptures!). But I think the consensus is that we take sobriety seriously and its not as easy as just a simple clap on the back or ?tut-tut?, ?there- there? when people say they ?slipped?, had a few drinks etc. But we do support each other when they break their abstinence and then try (try is the operative word) to quit and stay quit.
And we have lots of advice and Mick?s jokes are a pretty good distraction. Some of us can ramble on and on (moi??? Heck no??) and that's a distraction too. So are the elusive ones ? who generally post short pieces (I am thinking of you Sam).

As I said I am not going to list everyone but it will be fabulous to have I?m Strong, Scottish Lass, Nora C, Life Change, No Sugar ? and any others post regularly or just pop in now and again.
Special hi to Bear ? you have done so well ? congratulations
Det ? no bartending. Do not go there. Its evil. It smells. It rots your teeth.
Cinders ? big hug, and try to connect with some people where you are.
Pauly ? how are the sniffles? I went for a walk in the hills yesterday and Mr Hayfever hit me hard.
Hi there also to Mick, Yah, Crow?s Feet (Lav), and I betcha I missed someone ? Mick can kick me up the you-know-what when he gets up and makes tea and coffee.

Have a great Wednesday and take care

Morning TT - thank you - I'm really pleased, not made it this far in a long time, feeling much calmer. Got back late last night after a 7 hour journey and the end bit in a storm and the dark, earlier in the day our car also spun 360 degrees and landed in middle of a big grassy roundabout after slipping on a diesel spill. Scary - but glad to be alive, uninjured and car in one piece apart from smashed wheel which AA changed for us.Could have ended very differently.

To anyone lurking, please post, I've been sober on and off for years now and am now at day 33.Have a good day everyone, very tired and sleepy and not feeling like getting up and going out into the dark and rainy morning.

MAe, everyone, how are we today? ok I hope..was out yesterday..got soaked and itsthe same today!!!so how is everyone? Was quite surprised by some of the replies to the thread...for me the big thing still stands...this isnt a sacrosanct thread, but the only thing I would say is that you need to be committed in effort to stop ..its no use going at it half hearted. A few people said it was sort of like a closed shop, and everyone knew everyone..fine, but for me join in and if you find it is where you most feel comfortable ..do it...after all its stressful enough giving up booze ,so surroundings and support need to match your individual needs n circumstances..

on wiv da show gorra be out in a wee while..tea n cawfee on the go..just looked ..both tt and bear have already posted..

TT how are you ? few calories wont make any difference..Julie bought some miniature Battenburg cakes yesterday as a wee treat for me ...beg to report they are ALL settled nicely in my stomach ...yum yum ..luv em ..oh and white chocolate mice..Really liked your post this morning ..says it all for me.

Hiya Byrdie ..thanx for jumping in ..yeh no worries ..you take what you want from this thread ..you do a sterling job in the nest...and dont forget ..twas you who helped me on this road .Was going to say fingers are still a pain in the ass...but probably not the right phraseology to use!!!!

Hiya No sugar ...welcome ..you hang out any time you want ..more the merrier!!!Dont forget we all didnt join here at once ...you just kinda gel in ..thats what its about.

Hiya Sam ...hows you today mate? go on ....doin the do!!!!!Yep you sure fitted in here well.

Hiya Det ...how are you ??glad you mastered that with the foot ...now try it with the other one its a lot easier!!

Hiya SF ...yes you are right..anyone can post anywhere they wish and feel most comfortable at ...but it is nice now and again ..and I will include me in this one for those that post eons of script to see that it is helping someone .if that makes sense..like I say not a brownie point gathering exercise, but just to see it makes it all worth while..its about individualism and caring .

Hiya Nora...you ok? there is a place for you ..in fact anyone here....

SL...day 11 for you today ..go for it girl!!!ya wee beauty!!!Jockanese .com!!

This is actually a good point for me to say that when I was struggling so mightily last spring, I had some good friends to fall back on. They are you. I am absolutely grateful.

A High School English Teacher reminds her class of tomorrow's final exam. She tells the class that there would be no excuse for not showing up, except for a serious injury or illness, or a death in the student's immediate family. One smart-ass jock in the back of the room asks, "What about extreme sexual exhaustion?" The entire class does its best to stifle their laughter and snickering. When silence is restored the teacher smiles sympathetically at the student, shakes her head, and sweetly says, "Not an excuse. You can use your other hand to write with."

Q: If your wife is shouting at the front door and your dog is barking at the back door, who do you let in first? A: The dog, of course. At least he'll shut up after you let him in.

Julia began her job in a secondary school as a counselor and she was keen to help the pupils. One day during break-time she noticed a girl standing all by herself on one side of the playing field while the rest of the children were enjoying a game of soccer at the other end of the field. Julia approached and asked if she was all right. The girl said that she was. Some time later, however, Julia noticed that the girl was in exactly the same spot, still by herself. Going up to her again, she enquired, 'Would you like me to be your friend?' The girl hesitated, then said, 'Alright,' while looking at Julia with some suspicion. Feeling she was making progress, Julia then asked, 'Why are you standing here all alone?' 'Because,' the girl said with a large sigh, 'I'm the goalie!'

Hey what's up?" "Nothing much.. converting Oxygen into Carbon dioxide." "How the hell do you do that?!" "Breathing... Dude."

        Ronnie: 200 Dollars
        Voice: 300 Dollars
        Ronnie: 400 Dollars
        Voice: 750 Dollars
        Ronnie: 800 Dollars
Auctioneer 800 going once, twice and the parrot is sold.
Ronnie to the Auctioneer "I hope this Parrot can speak as I have spent a lot of money on it."
Auctioneer Laughing: "Who do you think was Bidding against you.

A man goes inside a pet shop and starts to move around the cages to scout the pets. He sees a monkey with a price of 5000$ and goes to the merchant to ask for details. Hey mister, the monkey?what does it know to worth that much money? Well, it knows Windows 95, 98, 2000, and also knows Word, C++, Visual Basic and last but not least, it knows how to play computer games. - Good monkey, it?s worth the money. He goes and finds another monkey with a price of 10000$ and again he will ask the merchant. What does this monkey know? It knows Linux, Unix, Corel and Autocad. Nice, even I don?t know those things. On a last scout run he finds another monkey just sitting there with a price 20000$. The story repeats, and he goes with a lack of confidence to ask the merchant for details. And what does this monkey do for that ridiculous amount of money? I never saw her doing anything, but the other two call her Project Manager!

Little Johnny's kindergarten class was on a field trip to their local police station where they saw pictures tacked to a bulletin board of the 10 most wanted criminals. One of the youngsters pointed to a picture and asked if it really was the photo of a wanted person. "Yes," said the policeman. "The detectives want very badly to capture him." Little Johnny asked, "Why didn't you keep him when you took his picture?"

"Dad, can you help me find the lowest common denominator in this problem please?" "Don't tell me that they haven't found it yet, I remember looking for it when I was a boy!"

One day while Johnny's dad was just getting out of the shower Johnny looked down and said, "Dad what's that hanging between your legs?" "Oh Johnny that's my nerve and your's will be this big one of these days", replies Johnny's dad. Anyway the next day while in school Johnny really had to pee so he raised his hand and said, "Miss I really need to go to the bathroom." "No, not yet there's someone gone", says his teacher. Not able to hold it in Johnny walks to the garbage can and starts to pee. Surprised to see her student peeing in a garbage can in front of the whole class the teacher says, "My Johnny you have some nerve!" Johnny says,"That's nothing you should see my fathers."

Hi pauly! Sorry you're feeling under the weather. Hope you feel better very soon!

Bear, your ordeal on the road reminds me of why I dislike driving so much anymore! People insist on driving too fast for conditions scares me especially when I have the kids with me. Glad you are OK.

Haha Pauly - we are going through lots of flour too these days. Thats from the baking. Better than buying shop-made baking - home made stuff has less additives (OK - Det I know flour is not healthy!!!).
and actually find we eat less home-made baking because its got more of our own time and labour in it (if you see what I mean).
My daughter made batches of tiny wee meringues last night - but she took them to school.

My next baking treat is going to be a carrot cake.

                          how do all,
getting kinda chilly out there, yesterday was as about as pretty a fall day as I can remember. Worked up in the mountains running a boundary line that so far runs the ridge. The leaves are really changing and the air was perfect. I really enjoy following old descriptions and of course none of the old corners are there, stuff like a white oak stump in 1890, but the twists and turns of the ridge is the same. Interesting to plot the ridge and overlay it on the old deeds.

Bear, glad you're ok, that sounded potentially bad. I hit a diesel slick one time on my motorcycle, fortunately only going about 30 mph. Got my attention all the same. Congrats on your day 33!

Mick, I like the carousel one.

evening to you Lav, Pauly, Cinders, Byrdie, Det, SF, YahYah, and any others I missed

I think the Blue Ridge Parkway is the most perfect place to be this time of year.

I hope pauly brings some of those peanut butter cookies to share with our coffee in the morning!!!

I love to bake but not today as I was up to my eyeballs trying to keep two stinky grandsons alive all day! Geez, they are a full time job :H
