    tuesday AF 29 October

    Good morning - day 39
I'm up early to get train to Birmingham for 2 day training course.Feel so thankful that my organisation pays for training and a hotel stay.Trains are back to normal after storm so all should be ok.

I had BIG deprivation thinking yesterday, about Christmas/upcoming social events, today's a new day and I'm trying to stay in today. Missed gym yesterday due to traffic, not due to me for once!Plan to do some floor exercises in my room tonight and go to gym on Thursday - dynamic yoga - owww!

    Have a great day everyone,

    tuesday AF 29 October

    just caught up on yesterday

TT - it's overcoming worry and I'm finding it really helpful

SF - I'm on soberistas as well, really great site - there is a book called 'calling time on wine o clock' by the founder - it focuses on gains rather than the 'oh I'm missing out' and all the positives and is quite practical.

Interestingly they focus on getting out there and socialising quite early on,saying that if we don't that compounds the missing out feeling/that alcohol is so linked to having a good time and socialising. Some of other books they they talk about on the site too talk about this, jason vale, allan carr etc.

There is also a counselling service that can be online or via telephone so could work internationally,I've had some initial contact and they are brilliant in case anyone needs it.In case this helps anyone.

      Good Morning, Bear!
It's the middle of the night here and the sleep fairy seems to have pulled another Houdini.

Good luck, have fun on your training trip. I may look up Soberistas - thank you.

Everyone to come... have a fabulous AF day

Hi there everyone. I can't post much today as my thumb and fingers are seizing up- combination of hurting thumb with a grater and too much screen work today.

Otherwise all fine in the South Pole.
Hope the UK people are safe from that horrendous storm.

Tea n coffee on the go.

Morning bear ..you ok?So youre off to b b gum for a 2 dayer ? just be careful with that one ..as we all know day 1 is usually sound ..leads to night 1 everyone gets leathered and then spends day 2 wishing it away!!As for the big deprivation, still early days relatively ,but the day will come when its no longer that.have a good time training...

Hiya Sunshine gg ...you ok ? despite the fact its daft o clock where you are?Pointless trying to sleep if you cant or dont want to....no mention of the hurricane ..well what happened??and yes yuo can tell its a wig ..my natural hair is blown back ...to about 1984!!!!

Hiya Sam...you ok?whats on your agenda for this fine day?

Sf good morning to you ..yes I think you are right inasmuch as there is a load of info out there about drinking..but if you recall with smoking ,before it actually got serious recognition as being harmful..we were bombarded with so much info ...to overload, they thought f..k it not interseted in it and carried on smoking ..then came a gradual awareness and a more long drawn out campaign for quitting smoking. In comparison,I think at present on a national or international level we aint even on the blocks.Media cover is negligible ..reality tv, cops programme ,er ,kyle ,springer all show the results of drinking ,but it sort of seems acceptable ..as if its a prop used in making the show..I digress ..yakking on ..what are your plans for today?

right peeps off we go ..going to let the rabbits out while the rain isnt here for a bit..take care.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL BORN IN 1930's, 1940's, 50's, 60's, 70's and Early 80's !!! First, you survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a tin, and didn't get tested for diabetes. Then after that trauma, your baby cots were covered with bright colored lead-based paints. You had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when you rode your bikes, you had no helmets, not to mention, the risks you took hitchhiking .. As children, you would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.Riding in the back of a van - loose - was always great fun. You drank water from the garden hosepipe and NOT from a bottle. You shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this. You ate cakes, white bread and real butter and drank pop with sugar in it, but you weren't overweight because...... YOU WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!! You would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach you all day. And you were OK. You would spend hours building your go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out you forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, you learned to solve the problem . You did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound, no mobile phones, no text messaging, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms..........YOU HAD FRIENDS and you went outside and found them! You fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents you played with worms(well most boys did) and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever. You made up games with sticks and tennis balls and although you were told it would happen, you did not poke out any eyes. You rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them! Local teams had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! The idea of a parent bailing you out if you broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law! This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever! The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. You had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and you learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL! And YOU are one of them! CONGRATULATIONS! You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good. And while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave their parents were.

"That's interesting," she said, "How do you make babies?" "It's simple," replied the girl. "You just change 'y' to 'i' and add 'es'."

Airman Jones was assigned to the induction center, where he advised new recruits about their government benefits, especially their GI insurance. It wasn't long before Captain Smith noticed that Airman Jones was having a staggeringly high success-rate, selling insurance to nearly 100% of the recruits he advised. Rather than ask about this, the Captain stood in the back of the room and listened to Jones' sales pitch. Jones explained the basics of the GI Insurance to the new recruits, and then said: "If you have GI Insurance and go into battle and are killed, the government has to pay $200,000 to your beneficiaries. If you don't have GI insurance, and you go into battle and get killed, the government only has to pay a maximum of $6000. Now," he concluded, "which group do you think they are going to send into battle first?"

A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment. The next week the man realized that he would need his wife to wake him at 5.00 am for an early morning business flight to Chicago. Not wanting to be the first to break the silence, he finally wrote on a piece of paper, "Please wake me at 5.00 am." The next morning the man woke up, only to discover it was 9.00am, and that he had missed his flight. Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn't woken him when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed ... it said... "It is 5.00am; wake up."

            how do all
bear, i'll have to check out that book. That has been my focus this time around, looking ahead instead of back. You're doing great, btw.

looks like back up on the ridge looking for the elusive property corners. Discovered there is a deed gap up there. The local name for this mountain we're working towards is called Beamer's head. Back in the early 1800's it was Beeman's.

so much for local lore, off to work. Hope everyone enjoys their day.

              Good Tuesday morning Abbers

Sunny & chilly here, not bad at all!

Hope your training session goes well bear. Congrats on your 39 AF days - awesome!

Sunni, hope you got some sleep! Sorry but I have been hogging the sleep fairy lately :H

TT, hope your thumb & fingers are better now, ouch!

Mick, I hope that storm has moved away by now. Saw pictures on the news last night!
I'm afraid the hatchery sent me a boy chicken in the box of girl chickens :H The dark gray colored exotic (unknown breed) is starting to crow :H
His time may be limited here - I'll have to see what his personality is like. The last rooster I had was a total son of a bitch :H

Sam, you are a real historical detective - good luck!!!

I have a busy day so I'd better just jump in & get it started.
Wishing everyone a great AF Tuesday!

Wow, slow start for me today.

Lav... don't hog the fairy, please! :H
TT... Rest yer paws... hope you feel better :l
Mick... right. The one-man wrecking crew stayed with his other granny, on the count of his mom having to go to the hospital with a fractured tail bone. Sailed down the stairs... it's unclear (at least to me) whether this is the aftermath of Saturday night's party. Sigh.

Oh.. chickens... Lav, they did that to us EVERY time! Once, they sent us 13 chicks, instead of 12 and wouldn't you believe it, there were TWO roosters! They were both pretty mean, although one of them at least liked me. He was the one giving the other crowing lessons (a real hoot at 5am)... rooster #2 had THE most pathetic crow ever :H

                  MAE ALL...

Bear...good luck with the 2 day training and keep up the good work. When deprivation hits try thinking of something you're grateful for...like say 39 AF DAYS.

Sunni...hope you get some sleep tonight. We're going to have to work on Lav's hogging issue.

TT...I know what you mean about fingers seizing up. When I'm involved in a big cross stitch project and then try typing my fingers actually lock up. They're not used to the change in position. Hope the thumb heals soon.

Mick...I actually understood that! :H Hope the storm has moved on...you must be going through "physical activity" withdraw. I had a busy day, we're in the middle of planning a Thank You dinner on Saturday for our alderman, who's retiring after 30 years. Why couldn't he have left last year when I wasn't working there.

Sam...I love hearing about the local lore. Hope your day was good.

Lav...out at the ranch my neighbour had a "guard turkey" I kid you not. He was huge and would chase you. When I'd go up for coffee I wore my cowboy boots and took a broom with. He's got some great stories about people showing up unannounced. :H

Ah...the pizza has arrived. Catch you tomorrow.....PPQP

                    tuesday AF 29 October

My days rarely go as planned. I rather just go with the flow of it.

Mick.... I still see a shift happening even if it is slow. Government and media companies are never going to promote not drinking at all...there is too much money in it. The tv shows you mentioned only give rise to the thought that you are not like those people. TV shows where the successful female lawyer comes home and has a glass of wine every night are more dangerous. See she does it (fake person). She can even have a few too many the night before and be as sharp as a tack to win the big court case the next day. Those are the dangerous ones.

I am talking about real people. I just don't see as many people drinking as I did 10 years ago. I meet a lot of people in my job and when the topic of alcohol comes up....many simply state they don't drink or rarely drink. I don't think it's so much as the dangers of alcohol....they simply know alcohol affects them negatively. When I walk into a restaurant at dinner time....the majority don't have a drink....even on a Friday.

Certainly I am seeing through new eyes. Before I would only see the ones that were drinking...gave me comfort that this was normal. I missed the 95 percent that did not have a drink

I missed the smoking campaign days. But you are never going to fear something into someone. In AA they always told me drinking led to institutions, jail or death. At the height of my drinking I wished for all three...

Back to smoking....that shift did not occur overnight. Those companies are still in business. But lighting up a smoke is looked down upon. So is getting trashed at the holiday party. Any party really. Small shifts is all it takes. Little waves create ripples.

People are adapting healthier lifestyles. I see people not wanting to waste their workout or it affecting their performance at crossfit the next day. Slow change...but I see it.
