    saturday aF 2 November

Good morning Abberoos ? sorry I have been missing. Just been busy and distracted with other things. My thumb and hand is better ? so thanks ? although I have to be more ergonomic in how I use the computer ? in terms of my hands/arms. Not doing this at the moment as I am sitting up in bed watching the sun rise. Yes, birds are being twitters.
Family asleep still, they do that so well ? but I find it almost impossible to sleep after dawn.
So how is everyone? Post Halloween recovery I take it.

Cinders ? you seemed to enjoy Halloween. Were you still away from home? Little ones can be so lovely ? they believe in magic and simple pleasures light their wee eyes up. Thank goodness for this.

Det ? hope you are getting some sweet sleep, rest and time with your Dx. Away from the AL infused guys. Are they are all guys ? or are them some women there?

Time for an aside. 2 things that pissed me off lately - about AL, gender and the public.
One was an application by a primary school to have an AL tent (for adults) at a school fair ? so that the Dads would attend on a Saturday afternoon, stay longer and spend more money. The application was declined by both the police and the health authorities on ?moral? grounds (I find the moral bit ridiculous but I suppose that's the old fashioned regulations). So men need AL to entice them to support their kids? So Women don?t drink AL ? especially later in the afternoon after a long day at the fair?
Even more stupid was one supporter?s comment that this would teach kids how to drink responsibly and thus counteract AL abuse in NZ ? because most adults drink responsibly and its only a few who abuse AL. Oh yeah ? pull that one on me!
Same supporter said he couldn't see the problem - Dads have a few drinks at the fair and then go home, end of story ( oh yeah???) and everyone's happy.

Another silly thing here is how some wineries here are now developing lower AL-content wines (only 10% as opposed to c 15%) ? to attract the female drinker. And this will be with good quality ethanol-ised grapes. Presumably there is a need to get more women on the higher end booze-bus. But the problem for the industry is that these grapes have to be picked earlier and so need more sugar (thus higher calories) and that won?t attract the ladies. Oh dear!

I can already imagine how you all are picking up the logic in this! Thought it would esp appeal to SF ? who is in the advertising industry (thought of your wine shoot) and Det.

SF ? we always get flu shots. They also knock me out for a night but its so worth it IMO. We have managed to escape most major flu viruses for many years (I did get M1N1 ? the first year it came out as I was travelling)

Bear ? you are making great strides. Doing so well. Hope the weekend is enjoyable and there is no pressure on you to drink.
Nora ? you too are doing really well. Good to see this too.
SL ? you are also clocking up the AF days. Fantastic. Now we have a new month for more clocking up. :goodjob:

Mick ? hope your house is warm. It sounds like you are in for a wild winter but I am sure there will be respite. Hope the bunnies are tucked up in their bunny house.

PPQP ? did you enjoy your meal? Ours was mediocre and very expensive but G. enjoyed his large cut of dead cow- it was called a ?man steak?. Yuk (will leave you to interpret that as you will):H

Sunshine ? did you enjoy your swim to the truck? Haha. Hope AA went well and provided lots of support.

Lav ? nice day off from the kiddie-monsters? Any plans for the weekend. OK here is something to share. My partner as we all know was 50. So he got his head shaved. It looks awful. Really it does. His hair was one of his best features and he is not going bald. This was not shaving to raise money for a charity ? but a whim. Am I about to witness middle-aged male madness? Will I have to get a barn built for him?

Hope you enjoyed halloween Sam? I think you were playing music??? Anyway have a good weekend.

I better go - have drunk all the tea and now off to make coffee.I might peek in later and check on you all.
    Have a great soberistic weekend.

Good morning TT - up early for drive to see my rollerderby team play, bit sad not to be in mix for selection but chose not to be there and enjoy life, work clashes and knee not being fixed have all combined. I'll get back to it properly in January.Looking forward to seeing us play, catch up with people and hopefully win.

I'm on day 43 now - still can't believe it - am determined to sort out this anxiety and can only do it sober.I am on a mission to sort weight out now, calorie limit and exercise are on the way. I've booked session to learn how to use TRX machines at gym.

Can't remember who asked 5:2 diet - you fast and eat 500 cals 2 days a week and then eat what you want (within reason) on other days. Some friends done it - have tried it but felt a bit rubbish on 500 calorie days but apparently that fades - also means 2 days without real movement. But seems to work, works out at average daily intake of 1400 - 1500 cals per day across week which is what I would be aiming at anyway. Need to give it some thought. Apparently there are health benefits, cholesterol levels, lower cancer risk etc etc.Not sure if it's a load of old pants though!

Otherwise for me all today is about is rollerderby - missing afterparty so no temptation there, then nice early night with my cats and maybe a little pedicure, eyebrow shaping. Tomorrow I plan to get up early and go to a spin class and do washing, buy laminate flooring and see mum in law. Then doing nothing for rest of day.

Feeling clearer and calmer - inbetween the waves of anxiety.I know intuitively I am on the right path - still feeling deprived but riding it out, it will change, and it is BS!!
    Happy saturday everyone.
    one day at a time

TT....I found your story of the primary school just silly....grown adults can't go an afternoon without booze?

When it comes to al I find advertising, people and society out of whack. Some people still wish they could drink like a normal person. Now I realize there is nothing normal about ingesting poison. People ingest al not because it is a refreshing drink, but what the drug is going to do for them. Some may only need one to get what they are looking for....still a drug.

Am I hardcore and think the entire world should not drink? No. But, I see it for what it is. Socially acceptable drug. Never see anyone post a pic of their joint or pill....because its not acceptable....or legal....take that back....if you have a prescription guess its legal

Well my stay home plans have changed.....the weather is too nice to stay at home....out and about we go.......

A Koala and a Prostitiute had just finished having sex, so the Prostitute said, " All right, now give me my money!" The Koala replied, " Money, what for?" " What for?", the Prostitute growled, "Look up Prostitute in the dictionary and read what it says." So the Koala looked up prostitute in the dictionary. It said, "Prostitute- A woman who is paid to have sex." " Okay," said the Koala, " now you look up Koala in the dictionary, and read what it says." So the Prostitute looked up Koala in the dictionary. It said, "Koala- A furry animal who eats bush, then leaves."

A little boy got lost at the YMCA and found himself in the women's locker room. When he was spotted, the room burst into shrieks, with ladies grabbing towels and running for cover. On the last day of kindergarten, all the children brought presents for their teacher. The florist's son handed the teacher a gift. She shook it, held it up and said, "I bet I know what it is - it's some flowers!" "That's right!" shouted the little boy. Then the candy store owner's daughter handed the teacher a gift. She held it up, shook it and said. "I bet I know what it is - it's a box of candy!" "That's right!" shouted the little girl. The next gift was from the liquor store owner's son, Little Johnny. The teacher held it up and saw that it was leaking. She touched a drop with her finger and tasted it. "Is it wine?" she asked. "No," Little Johnny answered. The teacher touched another drop to her tongue. "Is it champagne?" she asked. "No," he answered. Finally, the teacher said, "I give up. What is it?" Little Johnny replied, "A puppy!"

          Good Morning, Fablanders!

Another grey and soggy day here. Ack.

Think I will head to a crafty sorta market thingie this morning, then it's off to haul another 150 or so bales of hay. Will be glad when that's done... but it'll get me through to the end of May or so.

TT - That is indeed quite ridiculous. It would never fly here, because our laws have been changed... basically 1 drink can put you over the limit if you get stopped by police, now. Interesting, you talk about 10-15% alcohol content... I don't think I've ever seen wine over 7% here

Bear and Nora... it's so good to see both of you clocking up AF time! Well done! Watch out, I'm right behind you

Sunflower - I tend to agree with you. I also wish alcohol would just be wiped from the planet altogether.

          Det... how are you doing?

Ahhh... Mick. Your picture brings back memories. My son used to raise raggits years ago. Gosh, they are so cute! Yours have quite the little paradise to frolic in! Btw, getting out 'n about right now isn't so bad - as long as you got your hip waders!

Lav - how's you, granny extraordinaire? Any plans with the urchins this weekend?

Sam - whaddaya play? (Instrument wise, I imagine)

That's it that's all... hello to everyone I forgot and to come... must be off!

            Good Saturday morning Abbers

Sunny, a bit chilly but warming up for a nice day here. I have outside chores to catch up on, particularly the chicken house

TT, the middle aged man mania phase is NOT PRETTY
Sorry Mick, please don't be offended but it irritates me that menopausal women get the bad rap when men can be every bit as bad if not worse!!!! TT, if I could relive the past 15 years I would disconnect myself mentally/emotionally from YB BEFORE all the damage was done to my psyche. It's my fault that I allowed & accepted his shitty behavior for so long. I will never accept that treatment from anyone ever again. He knew how bad he was getting & he did go across the driveway & built his garage/man cave but it didn't help him. He needed the psychiatrist but didn't stick with him long enough. I really hope your Mr 50 doesn't get that bad!!!!

bear, congrats on your AF time - awesome!
Please be very careful starting such a low calorie, restricted diet! 500 calories is not enough fuel for your brain, even if it is only 2 days per week! You say you are already feeling deprived, your thoughts could turn to AL looking for 'comfort'.

Mick, I now have one grandson totally into Thomas 24/7 & the other has outgrown Thomas & doesn't want to watch it anymore. I feel kind of schizo with those two guys :H
I brought my large gerbera inside but it doesn't have any buds or blooms. Your plants always look so nice!

            Hi there Sunni!
Nothing really planned for the weekend - will see what unfolds! Don't hurt your back on those hay bales lady!!!

I need to get my day going, have to get to the feed store before they close at noon. Of course that all depends on YB remembering that I asked for help :H

Have a great AF Saturday everyone!

Mick....i wasn't saying people would not drink al if it were illegal. I find it odd that this drug is legal while others are not. This one is widely accepted by society and others are not. Take all other drugs....combine them.....they cause less death and damage yearly than al alone.

But...the whack part is that people tend to close their eyes....plug their ears when it comes down to these facts.

Call it what it is people....

An acquaintance of mine was talking....drinking came up.....and it slipped out....when I said "oh I don't take any drugs at all". She looked at me funny and said " we'll, neither do I".... This was while she was recovering from a hangover

Now I have seen it all....well not all....someone posted something about Blowfish.....and the Intoxication Nation Tab.....I really can't describe it....this was one of those WTF....kinda sites.

                  saturday aF 2 November

                  Hi Abbers,

Not much to report here. Living alone in the apartment. I haven't ventured out to make friends yet and my daughter chastised me this morning. She said "Go to AA, do something."

She is right. Sitting here alone is not good for me. I am going to go to church tomorrow. I am not sure which one. I grew up in army bases and a Protestant chaplain could have been anything from a Baptist to a Presbyterian, to who knows what. I am not picky. I guess I'll just go to the closest one and start there.

The family across the hall is a Pastor. He is African American. (What a full circle that has done, don't ask.) Anyway, I may just walk over there and rap on his door. His church might be wonderful.

AA only meets a couple of nights a week here but I will go to the next one. I have lots of leftover Hallowe'en candy to take. I hope I meet some nice people there, too.

TT. My son "Bics" his head. He has done for years. Of course, he is a redneck through and through, so it fits. Hubby has such a lush head of hair, I hate him. He is going to die with a full head of hair. Hopefully it will have gone completely silver for many years by then. I do not want to lose my man, at all. He went through the crap Lav's husband did but came out the other end. He is a very kind and loving soul these days. At one time, no. I am glad I stuck it out, though. He is my best friend today. Buds through and through.

Waves to all from NC. I live in a nice town. Small and mostly friendly people. I like it.

                  Love,
                  Cindi

ps Bear. You really are not denying yourself anything. You are adding fullness to your life that you can't when you sit down and start drinking. It is that simple. Hang in there, girl. You are doing so well.

Yes the prob with Gs head /hair is that he is not a redneck or a skinhead. And he has lovely lovely hair. (Well did have)
It will grow back and also I don't think he will like getting sunburnt - won't wear a cap.

I will just get on with life in the meantime.

Hope everyone is having a great Saturday....looks to be lean around here.

Cinders when I first moved to Nashville....I was alone and it was tough. I had imagined all this luxury reading time, sitting at a pool....in the end I was miserable without my family. I did not make a real effort to go out and meet people....I think the AA and church will be a great thing for you.

Had an awesome day....went to see a marionette puppet show that represented over 30 country artists and the history of Nashville. It was amazing. Then saw the Reba exhibit, made puppets with the kids, ate at Margaritaville (amazing how few were drinking at 3pm in the heart of tourist city) and then to the replica of the Parthenon. Such fun!

Now I am dragging my feet at cleaning the house....and my oldest is giving me the hardest time about cleaning his room. I am about to just go in there with garbage bags and toss it. We have a compactor here....once its gone....its gone That is what happened to all the toy guns:H

Mick, I really like your garden picture with the bunnies as well!. what do you use as support for your small hoop tunnels?

Sunshine, I try to play some fiddle, mostly scritch and scratch, but it is fun. Banjo, guitar as well.

SF, believe you asked a while back what kind of yoga my wife taught, it is called Svaroopa yoga. It is a very low impact type of yoga, but can be very healing.

Just got back from a wedding. It was a lot of fun. The service was outside and it was windy and chilly but oh my, what a view. Preacher had a good sense of humor, all in all everyone having a good time and a fun celebration. Drinking did not seem to be a high priority. No pressure there, not even self inflicted!

Way to go Sam....I am just back from a "retirement dinner" and the priority wasn't drinking either, but the food.

Since you asked, most of my surveying was done between Brooks and Suffield (the Canadian Forces Base that Mick has been known to frequent. :H) The drilling would start when the ground was frozen and with the Chinook's we get it wasn't bad.

Snowfall warning has been in effect since Friday. It stared snowing around 8 this morning and hasn't stopped. Temps hovering around 0 so it's very nice out but the snow is very heavy with moisture.

Off to bed, will chat with all tomorrow, except Mick as he'll probably be "out early"......PPQP
