    Know November - week 4

Dill, as far as I can tell Papmom is just busy with life, no worries!
I've had a few chats with her on Facebook, I don't think we've upset her in any way.
Glad to hear your son is doing well, that's wonderful!
I know how tiring it is with the kids, they are lucky to have you!
Take extra good care of yourself so that you can do what you need to do for them

I have 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' on my Kindle - believe it or not! Great book!

No precipitation yet - just cold
Throwing another log on the fire now!

Lavande, I am in bed with a few layers on under my down comforter. A fire sounds very nice and warm!

Dill, thanks for the u tube video. That was good.
DTD, that's a long time to go without power. We would freeze to death.

Thanks for all your posts. I've been reading them for weeks now and they really help. I now it makes a difference to be part of a group to help stay motivated and stay AF. Thanks for that. I am loving being sober. It was a big deal for me to stop drinking during the week back in Sept. Now I don't drink at all, I really feel good about that. Time to be strong. Only 5 days to 30.
      Keep posting!

        Good morning to all...

Snow and more snow here, it is sooooo cold! Great time to work, nothing else to do.

Dill, great your son is doing well, so kindof you and your hubby to take care of the grandkids. Lots of reasons to drink alcohol, it relaxes as it goes down, but then come the aftereffects, so not worth it. I will have to look for the book you mentioned. I am really busy today and leaving tomorrow for my trip, so willhave to postpone.

        Lav, lucky you, no snow.

Narily, keep up the journey, it is so worth it.

To all, have a great day.

          Good Morning Knowing Colleagues,

I am working in a Milwaukee suburb this week and have about an hour's commute so excuse the abbreviated post.

Dill-I know Lav is right about Pap. She stopped posting WAYYYY before your slip, so I know your slip has absolutely nothing to do with it. In her last posts, she seemed happier in her job, she had gotten a raise, and her boss had praised her work. The added income gave her the opportunity to get involved in agility again, and I know she feels a strong fellowship with other people involved in agility...hence the camaraderie on Facebook. Plus, she does lurk here from time to time, and if your slip bothered her, she would have told you. I have never heard of the Oscar Wilde book, but will check it out. Thanks!
Regarding the helplessness aspect of Dodes' book, I think what he means is exactly what you and I felt workwise (when I was in the automotive industry): overwhelmed + trapped with nowhere to go = helplessness. Does that make sense? I am so glad your son is doing better! Your prayer requested was heard, too.. I know your grandson wonders why his dad is away, but your son will probably tell him once he feels stronger.

Star-you are right....might as well work when it's so cold like this.

DTD-I am glad your power came back on, and I envy your warm weather.

Lav-are you doing anything special for EB's birthday?

          Narilly-:goodjobn the 25 AF days!

Big hellos to Cyn, Fly, SunniGG, Witts and anyone I have missed...happy AF Tuesday!

            Good morning friends!

Gloomy out there, awaiting the predicted rain & high winds. I am grateful for my generator, it may be needed later

I have a bit of work then have to head out to break down the craft show at Curves, do some housework around here, the usual!

Rusty, I asked EB's mother to bring a BD cake Thursday. I have enough to do prepping a big meal & hosting the whole group including her parents & grandmother.
I'll always have a special connection with EB. It was his arrival into the world that finally convinced me that I did have a good reason to get myself straightened out regardless of anyone/anything else. That little guy will always be special to me :l

Dill, Star, Narilly, DTD, cyn & anyone dropping in - have a wonderful & safe AF Tuesday!

              Good morning!

Lav, so glad you've learnt the art delegating! You simply cannot do everything yourself.

Rusty, what a commute! It always feels like wasted time - do you listen to audiobooks or the radio when the traffic allows it? So glad that I work from home, although that has its own set of drawbacks.

Star, Dorian Gray is a wonderful book - do try to get hold of a copy. All of Oscar Wilde is wonderful, I think. Have a safe and enjoyable trip!

Narilly, I agree about reading the posts here: everybody's experiences have helped my so much.

Just did my garden patrol: some of the apricots should be ready for picking in a few days, and the figs in a week or three. Cleaned out and re-organised my garden storeroom yesterday, planted a few flower beds (I tend to neglect the flower part of the garden in favour of the veg patch), and want to put in some more herb and veg seeds today. It's overcast here today, so a perfect day for that.

Everybody, good luck with all your Thanksgiving preparations, and have a wonderful AF Wednesday!
14 October 2013 was the first day of the best days of my life!

Woke up late, but no matter, don't want to drive in darkness and snow.

Will post in a few days. Happy Thanksgiving!

Good Morning and Happy Hump Day, Friends,

In the US, today is actually Friday for most people...including me.

Dream-I love the way you talk of your figs and your apricots...your property sounds heavenly. Also, I really like your signature line. I love the mornings after the night before, too, now, although on the weekends when I was drinking at my worst, absolutely not! I work out of my house as well but my clients are all over the US and Canada now. Fortunately, I don't travel every day. After today, I am home until next Wednesday. No, I don't listen to audiobooks, I blast my music and sing along (although I can't carry a tune:H)Did you ever mention what you do for a living? My apologies if you did.

Lav, I re-read your post about just wanting so badly to straighten yourself out when EB was born, and I think that many times, we don't want to quit drinking because there really is NO ONE special we want to be sober and clearheaded for, and AL really damages our self-esteem. So just giving it up for ourselves really doesn't mean much. It didn't for me, anyway. One of the main motivators for me to quit was that I didn't want me Mom to be heartbroken AGAIN. She watched her oldest sister drink herself to death, and her two younger sisters nearly destroy themselves with AL, and I wanted my mom to see me happy, healthy and productive. I also developed a special bond with my sister's youngest child, Elizabeth Claire. She has always been very affectionate toward me; sending me sweet cards, and telling me she loves me regularly. I wanted to be someone EC could love and respect.

Star-safe journey today and Happy Thanksgiving.

Dill-I know you are swamped with jury duty and child care and I hope you get a break tomorrow.

Big hellos to everyone else....happy AF Wednesday.

                    Good morning friends,

It's the morning after some extremely high winds over night. Some stuff on my deck was moved around - stuff that I should have put away for the winter but just hadn't gotten around to doing it yet Don't know what time the power went off but it came back on at 7 am. The chicken house is still sitting where I left it, thank God :H

Star, wishing you a safe trip & Happy Thanksgiving!

Rusty, hope you get to enjoy a long weekend on your home turf
My self esteem had taken such a horrendous beating over the years, it wasn't even funny. I really, really hated where my head was 5 years ago, it was sad. I will be forever grateful to the universe for sending me the perfect reason to haul myself out that depressive dark hole. I will never, ever go there again

Dill, I hope your day is good!

DTD, I would love to have a fig tree - I'm jealous!
Maybe you could send us some pics

Greetings to everyone else stopping by. Sending wishes for a great AF Wednesday for one & all!
I'm off to Curves, stopping by the dreaded super busy supermarket then back here to begin food prep for tomorrow's feast!

Late check in for me and I am sorry but I really don't have time to post properly. I'll try tomorrow to find the time. Yesterday was filled with jury duty and cleaning, today with baking and shopping and tonight the grandkids get to visit with their Dad at the treatment center, so it's go, go, go here!

I wish you all a good Hump Day evening, AF of course~

Hallo everybody - and a wonderful thanksgiving to all of you!

Rusty, so true - and sad - what you said about or low self-esteem keeping us from seeking help to stop drinking. I work as a freelance editor/translator. Lovely to work from home, but it also needs a lot of self-discipline to keep the backside on the chair when there's no boss but the deadline. And is yes, sobriety is a huge gift.

Dill, what a busy day - glad to know that the littlies will be able to see their father.

Lav, what's on the menu for the dairy and gluten-free T'giving?

I went to a Christmassy production last night - readings by two well-known Afrikaans actors (they're a husband-and-wife team and a local choir. I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. Lots of light-hearted Xmas songs, but also more serious parts to balance things out.

Again - everybody - have a wonderful Thanksgiving. And thank you all for your friendship and help: you are wonderful people to know and I'm blessed to have you as friends.
