    Ladies on a Mission!

Gals, you ARE NOT missing anything Good, we all know that! Try and surf the craving. Visualize yourself drunk or hungover and then visualize yourself waking up in the morning bright eyed with a big white comforter around you!
I went to a jewelry party tonight. Of course, there was all kinds of booze there and I was offered wine more than once. It was quite different going to a party and really being able to listen to people. I remember leaving and talking to the hostess, I was not this last one to leave. Wow, what a difference! I'm going to wake up feelin' good. Yeah!
    Have a great night girls!

      Ladies on a Mission!

      Hiya all,

I'm on day 5 and it's not Thanksgiving here but I certainly understand that feeling of wanting to have a drink around this festive time.. It's a strong ingrained feeling for me and it will take time to change.I'm only on day 5 and haven't had a desire to drink but tomorrow is the Work Do..the company have booked a venue and they have a set menu and free flow wine, beer and soft drinks.. when I checked the soft drinks it's just coke or sprite which I hate!! I'm looking forward to socialising with my colleagues but starting to get a bit nervous about the drink issue..grrrr I am going to have to be super strong tomorrow and already I feel pissed off that I can't have drink at this once a year thing at a beautiful venue on the beach... This test has come too early for me but I really want to go, got the babysitter arranged, I haven't been out for ages. Will have to really steel myself!!
      Take care girls

        Ladies on a Mission!

        Morning all,
Day 5 here too and feeling good. Patrice, I feel for you on the works' do coming so soon but you can do it. Just think how great you'll feel tomorrow morning - not only can you enjoy watching what everyone else gets up to, but you'll remember it to. Also, please lead the way because I have one on Monday. Been preparing my mindset all week! Thought I'd just slip quietly through xmas too without going anywhere so I wouldn't have to be tempted. Had a lovely invite this morning for xmas eve and last night two for xmas day, so now I'm thinking I CAN go places and have fun without alcohol. That's the intention anyway.
SL - I invested in a new bed a few years ago - seriously money well spent. Not one regret!
Hope you Thanksgiving lot are enjoying your hols

          Ladies on a Mission!

Thanks Freefly, yes I have been preparing myself all week too, this has been booked for months and I wish I was a bit further along the AF path... and I have heaps to do this weekend so can't waste Saturday with a hangover. An hour ago when I wrote this post, I was feeling despondent and a very grumpy but just went to the local food market and had some Tom Yum and fried veges, so full now and still grumpy but not despondent. That will be my plan tomorrow.. eat as soon as I get there.. I've got a small appetite these days so once I'm full I can't fit in any booze
Thank you my dear, I will rise to the challenge of being the first of us to brave the Xmas party and hopefully will be on here on Saturday morning telling you all how fantastic I feel.. Visualising frantically as I write!

            Ladies on a Mission!

            Hallo Mission Ladies!

Patrice, about the drinks: ask the company if they could not provide something for you - you don't have to explain why you're not drinking, just say that you don't like fizzy drinks. If they don't want to/can't accommodate you, take something along, such as fruit juice perhaps? It might be a bit awkward, but if that is what it takes, then that is what it takes.

              Ladies on a Mission!

Thanks DTD.. it may be a bit difficult to take something with me ( it's at a plush hotel on a beach swarming with waiters etc ) but I thought maybe I could pull one aside and ask for a soda and lime.. I don't mind fizzy but just not coke, sprite etc. Failing that ice cold water is fine..

Oh but also it's a beach theme.. think swimwear, bikini's shorts etc ..:upset:.. I'm thinking Kaftan with my bat wing arms!!

Aaaaah ok, didn't have the full picture. Beach theme: how cruel for anybody over, what, 21? But, there's no rule that says you can't still enjoy yourself - so go for it. A kaftan sounds great, lots of armbands and other accessories and there you are.

                    Ladies on a Mission!

                    MAE Ladies on a Mssion!

It's Thanksgiving here in the States. And wow, I'm so thankful for many things. First of all, my family, friends, MWO, my job, my new ipad!, and mostly right now, my sobriety. I'm on day 39 and feeling wonderful. After my coffee, I'm gonna hit the treadmill with my pandora 80's music, then get things rolling for a festive day. We're having 14 people here for Turkey Day, and lots to do. I'm thankful that I can enjoy family, and all the "stuff" I have to do with a clear head!!!!!

Narilly, I have woken up with that fluffy white comforter and feeling great! Yep, NS's picture...that's me this morning. Thankful on this Thanksgiving Day! And good for you at the jewelry party. I know that socializing without drink is much easier to do, especially as I go overboard and can't socialize without slurry my words, all the while concentrating on not slurry and it gets pretty tricky. Not worth it! Good for you!!!!

Patrice, wow, it sounds so wonderful to be going to a party like that! Well, you've got your plan in place. To eat! And there will be lots of food. OMG. The Kaftan...that would be my choice as well. But this is what I'd do. I'd people watch carefully. Some people will get sloppy, and you can watch them and remind yourself that you don't want to look like that, even in a bikini! Work functions are definitely where you want to look "together" and I've messed up more than a few times in that situation. I look forward to the parties where I can safely enjoy myself amongst my co-workers, and not have my husband come and pick me up because I've drunk too much. Good luck and hope all goes well!

Freefly, I do love to watch others, as this is a reminder for me as I said to Patrice. And to remember...that's the icing on the cake! Congrats on your day 5! Stay strong!

Hi DTD and all the Ladies! Have a blessed day and Happy Thanksgiving.

                      Ladies on a Mission!

Congrats to all on their days AF. Day 25 here, still going strong.

Thanks for the HALT reminder. I got really agitated this morning when my husband called from work saying that due to a real jerk he works with lying about coming in to work today and then blowing everyone off, dh has to work a longer day and won't be here for Thanksgiving dinner with me, my mom, and my brother...whenever I get that feeling, my first thought is to go out and get some wine and get plastered. This time the thought crossed my mind briefly, but it didn't carry the same urgency it has in the past and now it's gone, thank God! I'm keeping that embalming fluid idea in mind.

Happy AF Thanksgiving, everyone! R4L, I love your dog on the chair, so cute.
Every AF day is a milestone.

                        Ladies on a Mission!

Patrice- Be Grateful you are not going to drink! Don't think of it as a sacrifice. I mean, just the fact you are posting on this site means you should not drink, right?

Think of it this way- 'I'm going to have lots of fun and eat a bunch of great food, have some good conversation with people and I will remember the conversations. I will drink some yummy cran soda, lime soda, virgin pina colada, perrier water with a lime in it, a latte or whatever I want. (no alcohol of course!). It will be great to go home and feel good. No wine mouth when I brush my teeth and I will wake up feeling great."
Just DO THAT! Don't even think about wanting Alcohol, because YOU DON'T WANT IT!!! Really, remember that
J Vo, go on you waking up like that!
SL- omg, I have the best bed ever and everynight I get in it (especially now since I am going to bed sober), I think about how lucky I am. Yes, get a new bed!
Star, Sugar, I am in to the clean living myself. But I went a little off the rails at the jewelery party- those home made nuts n' bolts are so freakin' addictive! I should have just slapped them on my butt because thats where they are gonna end up! :H

Acadia and everyone- we know how seductive it is to drink. That red glass of wine looks so romantic, the media makes it that way and so does our brain. Lets take charge of that feeling- that glass is crap, poison, embalming fluid...whatever...it is just bad. Think that next time you see a 'seductive' glass of wine!
Free Fly, Humble, I am at 28 days...lets hang in there and keep going!

Hugs to all you wonderful, strong women,
