Ladies on a Mission Week 3

Hi available! I know the feelin!

And, Narilly, I will not be attending my x-mas party either. Not ready for that.

      Hi, Friends

If when you are composing a post you select to preview it now and then, it will save what you have written so far. I usually have 2 tabs open so I can read back in the thread - I try to save before I leave my post tab then, also, given how glitchy the site can be sometimes. And don't we always lose our most insightful, beautifully written posts :H?

Everyone here is sounding good. So glad you came right back R4L - it is good not to give your body a chance to get back into that awful daily drinking rhythm!

AOM, you mentioned that it isn't easy to get sober and you are right - it involves much more than not drinking alcohol (which actually is pretty simple - just don't do it). But all of us (young) ladies are on a mission to be sober and all the good things that go with it.

      Enjoy your AF MAE! :hNS

Managed to read back! What a lot we all have to say. Thank you for the info on the pitcher Dottie - I have been making a lemon/lime/cucumber/mint fusion and I need a pitcher like this. I will look on amazon. Have any of you tried it? It is a cleanse, and has positive effect on the liver, and is delicious - I think it will be fabulous in hot weather. There is a lot about it on the web at present. Helps with bloating too....

And yes, dots work for me to count - I have green for AF days - I leave blank for days I drink (used to do red dots) - I love it when I have a green looking calendar - some people have used stickers...

It is called detox water....and I have seen it using limes and lemons...

?Lemon: Lemon water makes for a powerful detox drink; lemon juice helps to cleanse and alkalize the body. Add one thinly sliced lemon to a large pitcher, or squeeze fresh lemon juice into your glass. Lemon also aides in digestion and boosts your immune system.
?Mint: Mint adds a touch of sweetness without the sugar, and it also helps settle your stomach and aids in digestion.
?Cucumber: Adding a few slices of cucumber to your water makes for excellent rehydration, and cucumber contains anti-inflammatory properties.
3 quarts or 12 cups of water

              2 lemons, sliced

              1/2 cucumber, sliced

              10 mint leaves

Rinse everything really well. Slice lemons and cucumber. Add lemons, cucumber, and mint to pitcher. Cover with 3 quarts of water and refrigerate over night

                MAE, All:

Humble - wow. Your son would certainly be proud of you. I can't believe you are an educator, too. I think that a lot of us are alcoholics and alcohol abusers in our profession (and nursing, too). Anyway, my unsubstantiated theory.

One of the first things my therapist and I talked about as I was admitting my alcoholism yesterday was telling my kids. While they have certainly seen me slurry and a bit sloppy they haven't seen me do anything radically weird. We have a ton of alcoholism on both sides of the family and we talk about it a lot anyway. I have a fear of saying "I am an alcoholic" because they know divorce, disability, death from that word, but I will certainly tell them that I quit because I couldn't control the alcohol. As they get older I will tell them more about it for sure. It is wonderful to get all of your advice and opinions. I do think that direct is best. I am envious of your great relationship with your daughter, K-9, and your hilarious, brutal and thoughtful honesty. Thanks, you make me laugh AND think.

To avoid losing a post I compose a long one on a word document and then copy and paste it in. Sorry about yours, J-Vo and available.

All - I read back but don't have the stamina to answer all of the posts. I remember a couple - stay strong, Running, and good for you for coming back so quickly. SL - go you on three weeks. Dottie, hope that prednisone lets you sleep tonight and thanks for the pitcher reference. I am def. going to make the detox water. A benefit of the CA climate is that I get fresh (not frozen) mint all year long.

I think you are all asleep by the time I post - hope you're having sweet not sweaty dreams!

                xo,
                Pav

Oh, and Narilly - I really want to hear about SMART. I am contemplating finding some sort of in person meeting if my resolve is wavering. Anything but a drink!

Yes, Narilly, please tell us about SMART tomorrow. I ordered and received today the SMART workbook! Looks interesting. Got it on Amazon.

Love the drink idea-cucumbers and mint and lemon-YUM! Could be good in a little tea sandwich, too!

Back to bed. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything!

Patrice, haha! You just made me laugh the way you said that! You can spot an educator from a mile away.

Will read up later this afternoon. Have a happy AF Thursday!

Too busy to check in yesterday and this thread's moved so quickly. Will have to go and have a read through. Just to report works do went really well (surprisingly so). I think it was the mindset preparation. A few questions, 'don't you drink'? etc but all fine. Food was scrumptious and I just got into appreciating that.

Just saw this, FF - between a busy thread and sometimes being on a computer and sometimes on a tablet, I miss stuff!

Congratulations on not letting your guard down at the party :goodjob:. I have one of those types of functions this Saturday night -- the wine will be flowing and the very good food plentiful. I'm looking forward to eating as much shrimp cocktail as I can fit in!!!

I kind of enjoy saying I don't drink now. For one thing, when I do, inside I just feel so proud, powerful, and grateful. Watching the reactions people have also is really interesting. You can get a good sense of who drinks just because it is "the thing to do" at a social function and those who drink because they need to.

The main problem I have is that before I drank at all, I thought these functions were really boring. Then for several years I liked them just fine . Now, other than the good food and the little sociological experiments I conduct, they tend to be boring again. I just don't enjoy cocktail party-level chit-chat very much.

I like talking to you guys, though, and hearing about how you're doing .

Just notice throughout the day how so many little things would have been different (i.e. worse) if you had drank the night before or had to fit in today all the BS necessary to be able to drink (and drink enough) tonight. All those little moments of noticing how much better your AF life is will add up and make having a drink or 7 seem like the most stupid thing in the world to do. It makes it so much easier to decide not
                          to drink.

                          Have a great one!

Ladies on a Mission Week 3

Hey all you educators! Both my parents were teachers....maybe that's why I drank! lol But seriously, that is a tough profession. I probably would have drank even more if I was a teacher.

Actually, there are problem drinkers in every profession. I was in the financial sector in my first career and there were a ton of alkies in there. My boss definitely was one. I have Never seen anyone drink like him! I saw lots of problem drinkers there.
Now I am in supply chain and there are a few here too but not as bad as the financial business. My boss here drinks a bottle of wine everynight with his wife and I know a few others drink A lot.

But NOT ME!! I don't drink.

You know, this am when I was walking to work -27C today, very, very cold. I was thinking, we all have gone through so many instances with alcohol to get to this point. All the hangovers, bruises, guilt, etc. We had to go through all of That to get Here. I know that if I wouldn't have drank so much wine that last drunk where I could not get out of bed the next day, I probably would still be drinking. So really, I had to go through That to get Here. ( I hope this all makes sense).
I will definitely let you know about the SMART meeting Acadia, Pav, J-Vo, Sugar, NS, everyone.

I talk to my kids often about my drinking. Now I talk to them about how grateful I am not to be drinking. I think this would really have helped me if my mom talked to me about it like this. My mom does not drink though and has no understanding of any of these issues. She is very traditional. I probably drank a bit more because of that...not trying to lay blame. Just an observation.

                            Now back to work.

Quick "Hi" during lunch! The little sweethearts/hormonal crazies are on their way back!!! I've taken my notes on the last two pages here, and I'll post later. Yep, I did say "take notes." That's how I organize my thoughts to everyone's responses. I have two notebooks; one at work and one at home. I love being organized! So anal, I know. I'll never be able to break that cycle. It seriously would be more hard than quitting drinking.
