    af Tuesday 3 December

Morning all ? fresh tea and coffee ? and toast, peanut butter and vegemite (I can eat this now that Mick can?t catch me! :H) for all. Excitement plus.:H
Hey the sun disappeared when I was asleep and it forgot to wake up. Should emerge from the clouds later in the day.

Thanks for the Mick message Byrdie ? sounds like he is having fun and splurging a bit ? but no harm as he is very disciplined and the weight (if gained) will disappear very soon.

PPQP and Narilly ? quite a storm/blizzard you guys have there.

? while I hate to see anyone being really drunk I couldn?t care less if they were geriatrics or teenagers ? its not good at any age. I also get annoyed with statements that a drunk woman looks worse than a drunk man (sexist twaddle IMO). The irony about alkie-ism is that it's one of the great levellers and we are all in this together. In the PMs and public advice that I have with with some young folk here there is sometimes a tendency to think that's its all very well for us oldies ? we had our fun and its unfair for us to suggest abstinence to the young. I confess I don't have easy answers to this ? except dire warnings and ?if only I had seen the light? (well not quite my words). I sometimes feel like a bloody hypocrite when I talk about AL to young people.

Off on a tangent ? wandering into cyberspace. Back to earth!

Patrice ? its very good that you stopped at 2 glasses. I think that since you want to quit ? you are going to have to be really tough with yourself over the next few months ? and that includes the festive season (isn?t there always a holiday where you live!). Like Lav and others said I suggest you avoid boozy situations like the plague. There will be other social things you can do ? there may be some AL at these but stick to all the delicious AF drinks they have where you live.

Bear ? try not to make too many lists of what you should do during the week with regard to healthy living (except saying NO to our No.1 poison). One of my workmates has recently lost a ton of weight and she did it gradually, no radical diets or programmes. She has heaps more confidence about herself now and looks really healthy.

Pauly ? you are doing well too and I hear you when you say that others get bored with us alkies saying that we have given up the sauce. I always kept rather quiet when I quit in the past ? and esp in this last quit. Someone please pinch me ? as lately I have been turning the tables a bit when occasionally quizzed about my abstinence ? and ask the questioner if they think they have a problem? What a bore I am!

OK me luvvies ? I had better shower, dress and consume more caffeine ? daughter is still asleep and I am working at home today. Have a builder coming today to look at a suspected leak in the wall ? we all know how a simple repair morphs into the rebuilding of the entire nation! :egad:

Have a great day to all the others that I haven?t yet mentioned ? Sun, Lav (please say hi to Yah on FB from me), Det, Sam, SF, and the rest of you lovely MWO crew.
Glad everyone is doing so well and handling the pre-Christmas build-up and incipient madness

Hey TT - good advice, I think I am feeling a bit stressed at work so compensating with list making - which doesn't help! Good news though - my counselling starts this Friday lunchtime as there was a cancellation and I can fit it into my work schedule/around meetings as well. It means a two hour break each Friday,we have flexi so this can work.

Work meeting was difficult, she was very silent, resistant and had little response as to why she hadn't done work.I felt like I said most of what I needed to say, but I came across as hesitant and nervous.I think the mental health may be an issue as well,I almost wish she would go off sick. I've done my best and tackled it though, just not a pleasant part of the job, need to tackle attitude with her as well but left that for another day.

Need to get breakfast and shower in a min, was too tired to hit gym yesterday so missed it - floor has progressed a lot and house is lot more in order/lovely oH working at weekend with friend and will be finished.Looks great and then christmas decs can go up

Day 15 here and hanging on - out with friends last night they were talking about boozy parties and I felt bit left out.Ho hum,I'll live.

I'm working at another office today which is
    one day at a time

      Hi friends
Thanks for the advice.. yes I'm back on the track and realise I will have to strenthen my plan
Lav - I wish I could lie low for the next 3 months but I'm going back to NZ for Xmas.. First time I have been back since Dad died 18months ago. Mum is so looking forward to seeing me and her youngest grandson. I called her at the weekend and she said she had bought some nice wine for us to share.. told me she hasn't had anything to drink since he died because she couldn't bear to drink alone... Oh shit!! I just didn't have the heart to tell her on the phone that I had stopped or was stopping.. will have to work this one out really carefully.. Mum's not a drinker, hence would never open a bottle on her own...
I'm going to have to be so strong aren't I!!!
But when I quit for a while earlier in the year she was happy for me... but she does know I started again. I hasten to add, I have lived overseas for 25 years so she doesn't know about my drinking issues..
Have a fab af day all. I'm knackered.. usual sleep issues so going to take half a sleeping pill so I can get a decent night.. Has anyone read 'Whiskeys Children'.. its a great read so far!!

Mae everybody, yikes Patrice thats gonna be a tough situation with your mom, since shes not a drinker she might be looking to cut loose with a glass or two,i would either pretend i was sipping along with or feign stomach probs or fatigue,or just say lets just hang out i havent seen you in a while i dont feel like anything to drink,i think the long holiday weekend messed me up,i cant get my get up and go! or im getting sick again my 15 yr old is coughing, has a slight fever maybe hes passing it to me,i just feel lethargic, anyways i hope everybody has a good tuesday
I have too much shit to do today and tomorrow to drink:sohappy:

Drinkin won't help a damn thing! Will only make me sick for DAYS and that ugly, spacey dumb feeling-no thanks!

          Good morning Abbers,

Another gloomy start to the day but it's mild outside - no blizzards!

TT, I found a small 'bubble' in my kitchen ceiling after last week's windy rainstorm. I sent YB up the ladder into the crawl space to investigate & apparently it wasn't a big deal. So, I choose to live with my small bubble for now - don't feel like getting into a big mess right before Christmas. I hope your house problem remains small as well

bear, remember to be kind to yourself, OK?
Doing great on 15 AF days!

Patrice, I'll bet your Mum will understand when you tell her that you have stopped drinking to feel healthier. Perhaps the bottle can be a gift for someone from the both of you. Let her know how much better you feel & how you are just happier by not drinking at all

I need to get moving - works awaits!
Wishing everyone a terrific AF Tuesday!

              Hey all!
Mick continues to have internet issues, but is trying to find an internet to poach on so he can check in. They are having some overcast skies there, but he seems to be persevering by taking advantage of the local pies!!! He sends his love and encouragement! Byrdie

                  Morning evryone!
good you got a quick connection Mick. Nice you can get some exercise on your holiday.
Patrice, I agree with Lavande, your mom would probably be very understanding and not push you to drink. As a mom, I would be happy if my child told me that. The last thing I would ever want to do was put them in a bad situation.
                  TT- peanut butter and vegemite...mmmm
Great that your floor is almost done Bear, that is a pain for sure but nice when its done.
Pauly, hope you don't get sick!
AND Hello Byrdie, nice to hear from you.

Freakin' cold day here in Calgary. -27C windchill and I walked to work. It was no problem although my face was pretty red from the wind blowing. Looking forward to a nice AF Tuesday. Life is good.

thanks for the nice kickstart TTops

Mick, good to see ya mate!

Patrice, perhaps you could bring over a special bottle of a NA drink you like, or some special tea and have a tea party with yer mum?

sitting around the campfire on Sat night the kids were roasting marshmellows so I figured I'd roast something a little more to my taste

it's snowing like mad here so I think I'll sit tight and stay warm with my sweetie and a hot cuppa joe.

                    be well everyone

                      MAE ALL...

Well, made it through the day. Should have walked to work like Narilly as I got stuck in the parking lot when I headed out this morning. Not my fault, had to avoid the idiot driver in front of me. Home early to hibernate, cancelled the garden meeting for tonight.

Det...is that you and are those perogies on your roasting stick? How did they taste?

Mick...glad you were able to check in though we did appreciate Byrdie keeping us up to date. Wish I was on holi somewhere.

Narilly...hope your back is to the wind on your walk home. Stay safe out there.

Patrice...I agree with Lav and think re-gifting would be a great idea. Honesty with your Mom is the order of the day me thinks.

Lav...you can have my blizzard. I don't mind, just send me your address.

Bear...don't let Mick hear you. He's a great one for lists. Got me going in that direction. Looking forward to hearing all about your counselling session. The stars are aligning for you.

Pauly...hope you're feeling better. It could just be one of those blah days, we all have them and yes they do pass.

TT...thanks for the kickoff this morning. Should have just stayed home and had tea with you. Hope the leak doesn't turn into major reno's for you.

Time to think about dindin....be safe everyone......PPQP

I once had a neighbor who grew the best garlic

I mentioned that I 'see' YahYah on Facebook - well yesterday was her birthday & I got to say hello & happy BD. Sounds like she is busy & doing well.

I need to get some new pics of my chicklets - they are 12 weeks old now & looking pretty grown up. They are loving being able to go out into their yard to play

Have a restful night one & all!
I am hoping to squeeze in a trip to Longwood gardens tomorrow - we'll see!

Det, love the garlic pics, they're one of my favorites too. Great stuff for what ails you!

well the wife's car is on it's way down hill. I hate, I mean hate, looking at cars. I always run into the "let's make a deal" if I use dealerships. And it is like fitting the glass slipper on her foot.

PQ and Narily, sounds like a bit of nasty weather your way. Hope you are both doing ok.

Patrice, all you can do is be honest... good luck with your mom.

Lav, our new chicks are all grown up, hoping they start laying soon! Hope to see some pics soon.

                          Everyone have an enjoyable MAE!
