Ladies on a Mission: The Official Site

    Ladies,

I'm in shock. After my first two classes, I have a short break. I looked at my phone, and DS texted DH and me. Never does that. He asked if we heard about the stabbings in Franklin Regional which is in Murrysville, the community right next to ours. Ten minutes away from us. I'm in shock. 20 people stabbed ranging in ages 15-60. OMG. I can't even think right now. I'm numb.

One thing, Dear Ava, I'm not the only one that refers to Phucket and Fuk-it! Oh, thanks NS! But so damn proud of you, sexy lady!

      Just one more thing...

Pav, I never made the connection that if I'm being judgmental with myself, that I'd tend to be judgmental of others and that's so true. I'm going to think about that one more. Thanks.

and just to add to what happened...Franklin is a very good school district. Lots of wealth there. Several people I work that live there said the drug problem is very bad, as the kids have the money to get what they want.

Thinking of you, J :l. And thinking of all the people affected. Is is hard to wrap my head around the idea of a 15 year old boy being capable of this.

OMGoodness. I watch The Following which is a dark tv series. Thought of it as soon as I heard you guys talking about the knife stabbings. Terrible.

what is it with schoolkids in america going on the rampage? my immediate thought was 'not again?'

massive sweeping statement, i mean it seems to be kids that do it when it happens.

we have had dunblain in scotland, that was an adult. forgive me i cant remember any more off the top of my head.

i suppose there is nothing they can do except put all students under surveilence and thats not acceptable.

my heart goes out to those affected.

you posted a couple of pages ago what books to recommend, i cant! i can tell you what im reading now though.

the war of don emmanuels nether parts.

i started it and thought i was going to have to make notes on the characters the way some writers want to make you do.

its one to read sober though to not miss the intricacies of the story, so thats ok.

its also based on facts, but not neccessarily in any one country of south america.

                  rollicking yarn though.

                    j-vo, so sorry!
I read about the situation, and had my usual thoughts of horror and what if. I then drove my youngest to school (middle school), found loads of police cars and kids being herded into the sports fields - I ask a policeman what was happening and they responded you can put your daughter in the sports field or take her home and I can't tell you why!! I took her home - DUH! No messages from school. My eldest goes to high school right next door - and tehy were not in lock down, so I had to take her there, not knowing still what was going on. No messages from school at all - the Mum network was going and i heard that lock down was over, and kids going to class.
We only heard from school just now - it was a bonb threat - but after the news about the stabbings who knew! The bomb threat was 7am, school was 7:50, so 50 mins to stop everyone turning up. No news until 10:15.....it has totally changed my feelings today.....what horrors occur in this world...

SL, I'm glad everything's ok, but that can cause such distress and frighten one when that happens. We've had to go into lockdown many times, evacuate because of bomb threats and it seems that one incident will initiate a whole slew of them. One year we had bomb threats daily until they figured out who was doing this. And from district to district, when kids hear it happening in one district, then it'll start in another district. It's a domino effect.

One year we had to go into a lock down because a boy that threatened to kill me in writing (a letter was found that he wrote to a friend about me) was thought to be in the school after being expelled for the threat. I had several police standing outside my door while I moved all the kids to the back corner of the room. It was so frightening, but then, telling the kids they are fine and we are safe to keep them calm was difficult.

The local news is abuzz with security and emergency officials, child psychologists, witnesses, surgeons that worked on the victims wounds, and heroes from this incident. There will be a press conference at 5:00 from the middle school. We are at Franklin Regional School District so much for basketball games (big rivals), baseball, football. That's also where I went to AA years ago. It's a wonderful community with a low crime rate. They didn't have metal detectors, and in our community, we don't either. Where I teach, a few districts away, we had them installed years ago.

The personal interviews they're showing now are chilling. Eyewitnesses, mostly students, telling what they saw and seeing how choked up they are is very upsetting. How strong they are, yet what they saw today is so terrifying and hopefully they will get counseling to deal with this trauma.

My students got wind of this, of course, and came in with questions and concern. So we talked about the fact that they're safe. We also talked about being aware of their surroundings, and I asked them to say a quiet prayer for those affected and their families. They were so sweet to show such care and concern. Gosh I love them.

OMG, I didn't realize one of my former principals is the head principal at the high school there. I knew she was there, but thought at the middle school. Just heard her name mentioned.

I will be consumed with this for the evening, but I will not drink. I am safely at home and praying for the victims and families. I love you girls for listening.

Sorry for this ongoing information. But the kid that stabbed 21 people lived across the street from the Principal of the school, the one that took him down and seized him.

j-vo, it will be a tough time, Ihave no doubt. You have been through a lot too - I have so much respect for school teahcers - it is such a shame you have to deal with all of this instead of teaching!
I am glad you will be strong for yourself. One of my mentors on another thread, made me promise to check in and get at least one reply if I was considering drinking, and not to move forward until I had the reply. I like that and I made the promise to do that - so now I will have to...
The offer is there, I will be hear for you - if you need a personal contact pm me and I can get on the phone and chat.
I know you said you will stay strong, but the thought has passed your mind....don't let it do anymore than that....:l:l
