Hi, Frances - nice to see you here! I read your post in the NN - sounds like this was a perfect time for you to read Turnagain's post about why we should ignore AL's siren song.

    Have a great day, NS

        Morning girls,
I didn't let my brain breath one bit yesterday, so I'm taking it easy on myself and not letting question after question enter my head about the stabbings why and how. The factors that would cause someone to do such a violent act is way beyond my comprehension, so I have to let that go and let the experts take care of it. Me thinking about it 24/7 will do me or anyone around me no good. All I can do is pray for all involved. Thanks for all of your support and gosh, you girls are so great. Lavande, thanks for posting here and for your kind and warm thoughts.

LB, I wish I could make your pain go away! I hope you can get help from the doc for the pain or at least some answers. Please keep us posted.:l

Pav, you're so right that kids don't mesh with drinking. Even though it didn't happen at DS's school, he has played baseball and basketball with so many kids from there and I'm glad we chatted briefly about the incident and I could offer my hugs to him (even though I know deep down they were for me mostly). But I wasn't drunk while doing this and I am so grateful that my son has a sober mom. He deserves it.

Jane, I'll read the article. Thanks!

Giraffe, the rape and killings is horrific. Again, just something else that I can't wrap my head around and not meant to. It's in the hands of the people or higher powers that can.

Star, congratulations on your 7 days! We're gonna do this together. And hope the preparations are coming along and not causing too much stress for you.

Roxy, Frances (glad to see you post here!), Ava, Nar, SL (thanks:l) and all ladies, have a great day.

          Morning everyone!
Hope today is a much better day than yesterday J-Vo.

Giraffe, that Pistorius case is pretty crazy. We hear about it here everyday too. Do you think he did it? I would like to think he didn't but his story seems kind of sketchy.

LB, hope you feel better soon.
Jane, thanks for that article sweetie.

According to 2009 data collected by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the U.S. sees 3.3 homicides by firearm for every 100,000 citizens. By comparison, Canada's rate is 0.5 homicides and the U.K. is 0.1. Most European countries sit somewhere in the same range.
China and Russia are not in the UNODC roundup, and there are many countries in Central and South America, the Caribbean and parts of Africa that have much higher rates than the U.S. Mexico, for example, has three times the U.S. rate for gun homicides according to UNODC data. In Colombia and Venezuela, the rates per 100,000 are 27 and 38.9 respectively. In South Africa, it is 17.03 gun homicide deaths per 100,000 people.
          Just an interesting tidbit.

          Talk soon.

Early check in - all the news is unsettling for sure. Natural disastors are so sad, and any loss of life is terrrible - but these unnatural events are just horrid....
LB - hope you get some answers - the uncertainty is stressful, hopefully you are able to find something that can be dealt with. Chronic pain is so terribly tiring and wearing on the soul.
j-vo - hugs to you again today - it will be a really hard few days for you all, take care of yourself and reach out as needed...:l:l

Star, well done on 7 days! Keep up the good work, proud of you.

Nar, yep, I believe Oscar is guilty; think he shot her in a jealous rage. It's terrible and so sad. The outcome and verdict will no doubt say a lot about the court and the country's stand on issues relating to violence against women.

Hope you all have a lovely mae. xxx

Uncle is correct. We say Masi not mashi, I love your explanation.

Funny about all the spices and the curry smell.

Growing up I always made sure the door to my room was shut so my clothes didnt smell like curry. My grandma Always had a pot of Dahl going on the stove.
I grew up in a little red necked town here and people weren't too open minded to East Indians or curry. Now curry is the 'in' thing here.

I was born in Canada and am not very Indian at all but I Get what you are talking about

Jane, I am a Punjabi speaking Sikh girl but that is only a cultural label for me.

I live in Calgary which is way far away from Montreal. I know that Montreal is known for their smoked meat sandwiches, they are Delicious. The old part of Montreal is beautiful and it has a really neat history. Their subway is pretty fun to ride and easy to figure out. Driving there is a little nutty. It is French speaking which is kind of cool. Make sure you try the Poutine which is french fries with cheese curds and gravy. SO GOOD!! And no calories at all...

Your grandmother sounds hilarious. I know she drives you crazy but she must crack you up too!

My mom does not drink at all. She always brags about how she has only had 3 glasses of wine in her whole life. (very annoying) She has no idea how I struggle with it and I could never talk to her about it because it is totally taboo.

                              Evening Loamers,
Much more peace today, just really busy which was a good thing. I think I'm going to get on the treadmill in a few with my pandora 80's and just zone out.

Jane! You provided a nice bit of entertainment for me! Oh, whatever it takes sometimes to get through, and it seems as though that works for you and MIL.

Since I"m not taxing my brain today, I don't have much to say. Have a great evening.:h
