Ladies on a Mission: The Official Site

Dear friends, thank you for your support - I am able to go to bed tonight at ease, knowing I am doing right and he cannot hurt me more than he has. I am proud and I am strong, and my girls are wonderful......and I am sober
Good night all, sweet dreams to those in bed or soon to go....see you tomorrow:l

      Hi, Everyone:

NS - what book? I love losing an afternoon to a good book... I love those little neighborhood libraries - thinking of starting one for my neighborhood.

Wow, My Luck - 45 pounds is a lot. You must feel so great. I have started yoga, although I injured my shoulder a while back and just aggravated it so I take it easy. I LOVE the way it makes my body and mind feel...

J-Vo - bless your patience for a double header - I get too antsy. You sound great!

LB - Vacation sounds great. Your post gave me the momentum to plan a weekend for me and DH away. We really need it, too. Glad you had fun.

Ava - no gazette lately? Hoping it is because you are so relaxed you can't lift your fingers to type. I hope things are going well with your mother.

LC (Elsie) - Hope all is well. We haven't connected in a while... Are your children and you bilingual? That is such a great skill to have. Do you dream in German?

Nar - how'd you surf that urge last night? Are we x posting??

Marylou - you snuck (sneaked?) up on a lot of days. My addled brain doesn't remember right now because I was reading earlier and now am too lazy to go find the post I saw. Was it 100? Chime in so we can celebrate!

Jane - have a wonderful time - you also inspired my trip with DH. I hope you're feeling better... Going away to a hotel in the middle of a master cleanse takes some chutzpah.

Dot, Giraffe, TMH, Dreamy, Moss - I am sorry I am sure I am forgetting someone. Happy Saturday night, all.

        Loamers hello hello

I dont feel i can post about how i am enjoying these massages constantly ha ha. Im a bit over the humidity now and am looking forward to getting home to see the kids and dogs. We leave the resort on Tuesday and get to bangkok till Thursday night and catch a midnight plane to home. It is going to be a long long day on Friday.

Mum and i are getting on really really well, suprising when you take al out of the equation. we went to see Simon Caberet last night which was lady boys and really enjoyed it. i asked mum if she wanted a wine and she said it was too much, i said i will go halves with you. Well you should have seen the look of shock on her face. I was kidding but i dont think she knew what to say bless her. she has been really supportive without words just actions by not drinking much. This place is certainly alkies paradise, al in coffee shops, bars ever 5 feet. I cant say its been hard but a bit tempting at times to be honest. Wine is really expensive over here which was my drug of choice but if i had wanted it i would have spent $30 no problem for a bottle of shit.

Glad everyone is doing great, i have been reading daily and keeping up to date. the good thing in checking in is being accountable and knowing i dont want another day 1. so a sober holiday nearly done and dusted. i get home Good Friday and turn 50 on Easter Sunday. I have told the kids i will probably be a wreck so we will have a quiet day and go out when Kiera gets back from her week holiday.

LC you have been rather quiet lovely, i hope you are ok.

SL maybe your ex is jealous of you and what you are achieving so feels he has to show off to the girls. My ex is as useless as "tits on a bull" and the kids know that i am their support network but they love him anyways. I know at the end of the day that they will always come to me, like your girls would.

Nice to see everyone is going to take some mini breaks, must be warming up in your neck of the woods. It still seems ok in Aus but will totally feel the difference between 36 degrees day in day out with 150% humidity to 22 degrees in Melbourne with rain and cold overnight.

I am of the feeling girls, that if i can go af on this holiday none of us ever needs to pick up that drink. I have taken pics showing bars, bars and more bars to put on photobucket or whatever when i get home. We are all strong women and are totally proving that to one another.

Love you guys very much and take care. xxxxx

Thank you Ava. Wonderful inspiring post. I was out of practice going on holiday without my friend al so I thought of it a little. Then I thought of you and told him to f**#off. So glad I have support.
NS I love reading. I am thinking of ordering another copy of The Far Pavillions. I haven't read that book in years and it is an all time favorite of mine. I have probable read it 10 times but it's been about 10 years since the last read. This is one not available on kindle or nook.
SL glad you feel better. Being the main parent is difficult but the rewards are the pay off. :l
          Have a good day ladies.

            Morning Ladies,

Today is going to be a cleaning day. Not my favorite thing to do, but something that needs to be done and didn't get done when I was nursing a hangover!

NS, back in the day when I wasn't a complete drunk, I read so many John Grisham novels. Loved them and him. Yes, I totally get staying up all night reading! I think I'm due for a fun, mindless novel. I've had my head in nothing but memoirs on addiction, alcohol, and I'm hungry for something fun.

LB, what a wonderful treat for you and hubby! So glad you got to enjoy that time together!

Myluck, I think ygoa would be wonderful. I'm one that tenses up so easy from anxiety and stress. My muscles ache at the end of the day because of that. That's on my list of things I would love to try, especially the hot yoga. You sound wonderful. And 45 lbs! Woot! Woot!

            Pav, feeling happier this morning?

This is a really interesting talk:
                The Bubble Hour

Special Guest, Dr. John Kelly: Changing the Stigma of Addiction Through Science
Many people think that recovery from drug and alcohol addiction is a lost cause when in reality there are approximately 25-40 million people who consider themselves to be in active, stable long-term recovery. Based on those numbers, most people probably interact with someone in recovery on a daily basis, but they don't even know it because it's not talked about openly. Dr. Kelly and the Recovery Research Institute's mission is change that stigma and show people, through science, that recovery is not only possible, but it is the likely outcome.

On this episode we will talk to Dr. Kelly about addiction, stigma and recovery and how understanding the neuroscience of addiction will help alleviate that stigma.

                  Hi Lovely Ladies

Just finished reading State of Wonder by Ann Pratchett. Wow - highly recommended. If anyone has read it plz tell me what you thought. I re-read many pages just for the beautiful sensory descriptions.
(A perk of not drinking is being able to remember what I had read the previous night.)
                  :-)

Its Sunday evening here, hope you all have a wonderful week.

                    Hi, Giraffe

I read that a couple years ago and enjoyed it very much ( I wouldn't put that in the "mindless" category of " Long Lost", my current read, though!). She made me feel like I was there. Her book, Bel Canto, is one of my all-time favorites.

                      Evening Ladies,

So, another productive day. Where's all my energy coming from? Oh yeah, not drinking. Sucked everything good out of me. Church, washing clothes, getting things ready for Easter (having 20 people over - DH's immediate and some extended) and cleaned out clothes closet. So, now sitting down and going to listen to a little of the Bubble Hour. Got 20 min. in this morning and sounded like good stuff. Thanks NS!

                        hi loamers

well last day today in phuket, massage myself to death i think and then just laze. they had their New Year here yesterday and played "doof doof" music oh for about 10 hours plus and not far from our room. mum was not happy and i spent the day saying "mum its their New Year".

I am ready to go to Bangkok and shop now for a couple of days then head home. I miss my family and Australia. The good thing is that i have the week after off so as the boys said that will give me plenty of time to get up to date on the washing. mmmm, its nice to be appreciated.

Jvo you are sounding great but can you please pop to mine before i get home and make sure it is clean since you have all this wonderful energy. Im feeling like i gained 6kgs and lazy.

NS i have not read a book while here, ive been watching Breaking Bad and loving and hating it. The main guy reminds me of my ex but everyone still loved him. Maybe i have anger issues lol. He even kind of looks like him!

Well off to breaky, glad you lovelies are all doing well. xx

SL - that sums up the end of my day. A lot of heavy housework - putting together new furniture for the boys' room, carrying heavy things up and down stairs, dust, etc., and a lovely sunny day. When we were done, DH breathed a sigh and grabbed a cold beer. I didn't crave it, but I did have a longing. As you said on the Sunday Shoutout thread, I'm not a one beer kind of gal either. Too bad, so sad - no pity parties here. Hope your daughter has a great time.

Giraffe and NS: I LOVED Bel Canto - State of Wonder was amazing, too. It was perfect for me at my age...

If you liked that, I recommend a book called Shooting the Boh for adventurous, out-doorsy women. It is a true account of a woman who rafts the Boh River in Borneo with the first western group to ever do so. It is an adventure book but also the story of an adventurous woman coming to terms with getting older (I think she's 40 in the book).

Cooking tacos and going to watch some Cosmos - is anyone else watching that? I tried Breaking Bad but it was making me too tense. I might have to wait for summer...

Ava- What do you shop for in Bangkok? I must admit that I HATE shopping of all kinds. I can't imagine doing it in 100% humidity and 90 degree weather. More power to you. Are you buying yourself a nice pressie for your birthday?

In the States 4/20 is a euphemism for smoking pot, and it is sort of the national pot smoking day. I have long ago given up weed - it made me feel too paranoid. I talked with my shrink about maybe trying it to relax and quickly we came to the conclusion that taking up a new and potentially habit forming drug was not really what being sober is all about.

OK - son and friend are clamoring for food. Happy Sober Sunday, everyone!
