Ladies on a Mission: The Official Site

Getting ready for a trip to DC. We're leaving Wednesday morning and returning Friday night around 10 p.m. This will be a great trip with 130 kids and about 10 chaperones. I probably won't be posting much as we'll be a little busy!

SL, what a great way to turn something that is a challenge into something positive for your daughter! For me, during the day at work, I find myself running in so many different directions, as my name is called a thousand times a minute, and I don't walk to the bathroom but run. I can feel my anxiety creepy up, and by around 11:30 I need a quick breather. I use the calm app that Pav suggested, and Ava recommended "Relax" app that I downloaded. Just those deep breaths and listening to the ocean does the trick for me. As far as an after work treat, naps are my friend. Even if you can close your eyes for 10 minutes while you lay on the couch or a recliner would be a treat, but you may not get back up! That's my DH's problem and why he doesn't do the same for himself. Everyone's different!

NS, you're back!!! Thanks for the info. on the movie.

    Have a great night all.

      Jane,
I can't say anything better than what NS said! So I'm just gonna do this...:l
Check out the Charlie Sheen commercial that SoberSoul posted in General. It was cute!

Spent the afternoon in the yard. Planted my garden and did some other work. Still have to put out all the mulch in the landscape. I should have hired someone to do this but here I am..oh well.
Gym tomorrow then pay bills. Maybe work on the yard some more.
Scottish I haven't known anyone with shingles but I have heard it is not pleasant. I hope it is short lived and u bounce back soon.
Jane I had the Geek squad clean my laptop recently. Now it is slow again. Major pain in the fanny. I hope u get yours fixed soon. I have a tablet but I cant type very well on it...good luck.
Going to bed shortly. I need energy for the gym.....

I drink this most evenings: GT's Kombucha. It is tasty, refreshing, and good for you due to the probiotics. I like it but don't crave it. I'm not distraught if circumstances make it so I don't have one. I do keep my refrigerator stocked but I don't hide it anywhere . So, it serves a psychological function, has health benefits, and is not addictive.

Hi, All: A lot of non sequiturs coming your way...

Well, my son, husband and I were outside hanging out and son says, "mom, is anyone in our family an alcoholic?" Loooooong silence. "Well, my cousin Fred, and my other cousin Jesse, why?" I was using your computer and there was a webpage for an alcoholic website open. Dead silence. Just hanging there. I really didn't know what to say or do. I knew that I was planning on saying something eventually, but I had been pretty careful about shutting down the computer and clearing the history. Dang, I didn't want to say anything, but I did. Sort of. "Well, have you noticed I haven't been drinking?" "A little." "Well, I was noticing that there were situations when I didn't have control over alcohol, it had control over me. I was finding I had a habit of drinking every day after work, and it was becoming a habit that was hard to break. And then I found myself getting drunk in front of you and your brother, something I promised myself I'd never do." "When was that?" (bless his little innocent heart). I mentioned a time and he said he didn't realize. I told him that was why I was worried about his drinking - that evidence shows the younger you are when you start drinking, the more likely you are to become and alcoholic (I DIDN'T share with him that I first got drunk at age 13). We talked about the fact that his 23 year old cousin doesn't drink because he doesn't like it. I asked him if he was worried. He said sort of at first but he was glad to hear that I only couldn't control it sometimes. Hmmm. I didn't go deeper there - maybe another time.

There you have it. I was semi honest with my kid and I didn't die. Phew...

Nar - My mind goes a mile a minute. I know you already exercise a ton (that helps me), but maybe a quick walk around the block, or try out that calm app. When they wheeled my son in for surgery I used it to calm myself in a very busy waiting room. It really does work.

I also like to cook, listen to a funny political podcast, listen to good music, write on MWO, play Candy Crush, do a crossword, read a good book, play a game with my kids, just to name a few.

Ice cream is still my reward. Not sure I'm ready to totally give up sugar, but I would like to stop the candy and day to day sweets. This is new for me as I am usually a savory person. Maybe I'll check out that movie.

Jane, that is a good reminder that I should back everything up. What a pain in the a$$. I like coming here, too. The more I read about alcoholism and the more I listen to the Bubble Hour, the more convinced I am that I need sober friends to hang out with in person. That is a benefit from AA that we don't get here. I still really have no intention of going to AA, but I am going to start to notice people not drinking so we can hang out!

J-Vo - Baseball today? How was the meeting? Did you present?

NS - I worry that I make quitting look too easy for me to others who are struggling. Yep, I just quit and it felt so good I kept going. That masks all of the time I spent struggling with my drinking, and all of the time and energy I spend staying sober.

SL - I rode when I was young, but now my knees hurt if I ride. Fark the aging process (but I guess it beats the alternative).

Ava, Ava, Ava! Haven't heard much from you. Hope your first day back with farquard isn't too awful and that you take it easy. I hope you are fabulous as always.

Dot - Jealous of your garden. Now there's some meditation...

OK, sure I missed someone, but must get my tired self to bed.

            Thanks for everything!
            Pav

NS, bummer, it's not available in Canada! It sounds good though.

Jane, I am so glad to be your friend. We all help each other that is for sure.

J-Vo, enjoy your trip to DC. Sounds tiring but fun! I will check out that Charlie Sheen commercial.

Well, goodnight ladies. I enjoyed Another sober weekend, I am grateful for that.

Miss Pav, we are cross posting again! I love ice cream too
Thanks for the suggestions. I completely forgot about the calm app. Ya, finding sober friends, wow, I know I have to do that. I would never have hung out with non drinkers before, how things change!
Everyone I know drinks, except my mom!

                  Hi Loamers

Jvo thanks for thinking of my lovely on my first day back. I can say that i feel like a worn out dishrag now i am home and the boys are getting sick and god they get so sick with "man flu" it is pathetic. i think i own shares in the pharmacy at the moment but if they stop complaining then its worth it. It is getting way too cold too early in Aus.

Pav, i am around, just energy levels are down and nothing to contribute really. My FWAD boss actually left me alone today as he realised that i am still not well. has big plans for me tomorrow which he can shove as he should feel blessed that i am sitting at the chair looking beautiful.

Well have to go and do some typing, why did i volunteer to type for a dr i used to type for? oh thats right the money.

Glad everyone is doing well. I did manage to go to a baby shower on Saturday and they had a "bee hive" (holds lots of drink) and one was al and one af. its second nature now to drink the af one though i did wonder what the al one really did taste like, it was a pretty colour.

Dot i managed to do some juicing yesterday, due to the fact the fruit was going to go off and did not put the lid on properly so had a wall full of watermelon on it!. Very pretty i must say. I nearly cried over that one. i think i put in too much ginger but it prevents colds.

NS glad to see you back on board again.

                  chat soon xxxx

just checking in. i realise i havent posted on this thread for a while.

everyone is doing well i see, im doing ok.

i live on my own with no family around me so i cant respond to people with child issues/fun times.

i dont really work, so work related issues i cant respond to either.

introspective posts? dont know what to say to those as i am avoiding talking about it atm.

                    soooo......

what am i doing in this thread? :H

ah, hows your shingles SL? take care and wear that tight top as, i think, NS suggested.

                    there i said something. :new:

I think the puppy would wake up without Roxy yelling with the noise the army makes. That puppy is delicious, if i did not have 3 already i would tell dream to send her over. My pup has a simple name "maddison elizabeth charlotte beatrice". hard hard decision to make naming a child!
