Ladies on a Mission: The Official Site

Hi all - back home! So 360 mile trip (it was a pretty drive) sharing a room with two teenagers, and a bed with one of them. Bad food at hotel restaurant, and the pool packed to overflowing - so totally exhausted, but good weekend overall. Am thinking that this would have been perfect rationale for a drink or 6, but am doing ok without - YEAH!
Did a quick read thru - will do more later after Pizza cooked!
Jane - well done for venting - will read more thorougly, but hope getting some of it off your chest was a help....
    Kailey - welcome back!!
Dottie - let us know if we can help with this big transition for you:l
I am sure I have missed lots, but will spend a bit more time later - love to my Loamers - you were all with me as I avoided all the MANY temptations this weekend....

        Hi, Loamers:

Welcome back, SL. We missed you!

We had a birthday party for my son - 15 teenagers at the park. They went off and played all sorts of sports for hours, coming back only for food once, so my husband and I got to just sit and talk for about three hours. It was amazing. I said I want to tell you about my alcoholism and more about what I do and what I need to do to stay sober. I talked about MWO, the Bubble hour, the darkest end of the Thanksgiving massacre that even he didn't know about - so much. I cried, he cried (luckily it was sunny out so when the kids popped in they had no idea as we had on our sunglasses). I was prompted by the Bubble Hour on telling family and friends (listen here) - I realized that I needed to check in on him, too. After all, he married the party girl who suddenly is doing yoga all the time and typing on her computer. He was so supportive and amazing - and having this conversation felt like I lost 25 pounds of heaviness from my chest and shoulders - weight I didn't even know I was carrying. I highly recommend finding a real life person to confide in - it really does feel different from this anonymous forum, as much as I couldn't do this without you ladies.

NS - I've read about those social contagions, too. That's why sticking to a sober community is so important!

J-Vo - Hope your walk was good.

Ava - Sounds like you have a quitting smoking plan. Good luck to you! Well, we know it takes more than luck, don't we. Feel free to vent here at any time - we have your back on this one, too. I am extremely excited for my 6 months coming up in a couple of weeks. It feels like it is a giant milestone to me. Can't wait to celebrate with you!

I'm off to bed, now. Good night all you wonderful ladies (I guess we scared G and Rahul away again). Hope you had great weekends.

SL I too am glad you did so well. And I enjoyed the trip. Thanks for taking me with you.
NS I am passionate about staying sober. I hope that it really is contagious. I have thought about what it takes to stay sober and the mind just keeps coming back to determination. You have to want this more then anything else. More then that special doll you wanted for Christmas when you were 12, more then you wanted that certain boy to notice you when you were 14, more the you ...... well you get the picture. I have been talking about that very idea this weekend. By making this my #1 priority, I am able to achieve many other things I want. Just wish the people I live with felt the same way. Wish I could carbon copy you ladies and give each of them a set so they would have their own wonderful, supportive group.
Kailey welcome back. I am looking forward to getting to know you. I am glad that you and Daisy have each other. That is a very powerful thing.
Ava hope you are having a good Monday. I have thought about the advice you gave Jane all day.
J-vo glad your walk went well. School must be close to being out. That has to be a bittersweet thing. Glad you get time off, but losing the students you bonded with all year.
Pav I'm glad you did get out of the house. I went to a small car show with hubby this afternoon. Boy it felt good to leave the tension behind. I'm glad you had a good time last night. You're doing so well. Sounding so strong.
          Giraffe good to see you.
Roxy thanks for letting us hear from you.
Narilly I'm going to be thinking about you this summer as it heats up, wishing you could export some of that cold winter you just had.
No matter how far you go or how fast you run, you can't get away from yourself. ....said at an AA meeting. It stuck with me.

            Morning Ladies,
Well, I decided that I'm taking a sick day today. Yay for sick days! Going to give myself a pedi, mani, finish laundry that didn't get done this weekend, then report to my second job this evening as concession stand specialist! Yes, the next six weeks on Monday and Wednesday evenings, I'll be running the stand for the games. Now, mind you, in the past, being behind a concession stand scared the crap outa me, making change quickly and fearing I would count incorrectly, just the hustle and bustle of it. Well, not that these next six weeks will be like the real basketball season, but it'll give me a chance to really get a handle on where things are located, how much everything costs, and get comfortable for when the real deal starts. DH loves to cook, and I told him we were in no way going to put chicken marsala on the menu! Stickin with walking tacos! But then again, we thought about mini meatball sandwiches...hmm. the possibilities! People will be coming to Mr. and Mrs. J-vo's concession stand restaurant and as a side entertainment, watch a basketball game! Oh, fantasies.

LB, glad you and hubby got out yesterday! Sounds like everyone is getting good communication in with DH's! My DH is thrilled with this life, and he doesn't even need to tell me. Our relationship has gotten better, as has our intimate relationship. Oh yeah! Wow, just when I thought it would never be good, BAM! Another great result of no drinking!!!!!!

Pav, what a great share. That's just wonderful that you're letting this go to the people you care so much about. I'm going to listen to that podcast today. Thanks for the link! Glad your son's b-day went well and you had a great talk with DH. I'm coming to yours and Ava's six-month celebration!

Kaily and Daisy, these are the girls to follow! Just look at how life can change in six small months! Well, LB, NS are way over a year, and we are following in their footsteps, That's what it's all about. Sticking close to the boards, learning, taking small steps, following those who are succeeding, listening to their wise words, and asking for help when needed. We're so lucky you're both here to walk this journey with us.

            Nar, how are you sweetie?

Good morning! My first thought when I woke up this morning was "This will be the day I quit drinking forever." Then it hit me like a lightning bolt. That was yesterday! Today is Day 2. I can't tell you how happy that made me. I really do feel like I'm on a mission!

I hope it's contagious, as you all were talking about. Pavati, that conversation with your husband sounds like it was very special. He sounds like a wonderful man. My husband drank himself silly last night. I know he'll regret it today. Until we both get on the same page it feels a little lonely.

I'm afraid I will never have the time to post long thoughtful posts that acknowledge everyone on here. Those of you who do that are very special people. I do want to say that I read all of your posts and feel very blessed to be in the company of some very fine women.
You had the power all along, my dear.

You'll get through this week SL! Call on us for help anytime.

Kailey, it is hard when one is drinking and the other not. My husband certainly cut down considerably when I quit, and now only has a few drinks every now and then and only weekends. He was never a weekday drinker. Give it time. He may see how well you're doing and wanna hop on the sober train with you. Keep reading the toolbox and create a plan that is tailored to you and your interests. It's amazing how great we feel and that we want to do things that we haven't done in years. Such a blessing.

Ava, where have you been? I can't find you!

                                Daisy, how was your day?

I'm sitting behind the concession stand and no one is here to buy anything, so I can't screw up any change! This'll be a long night...
