Jvo many congratulations to you for 80 days! It is such a feeling of accomplishment isn't it? I know I have been tickled at some of the milestones along the way. Every single day AF is a great day!

Pav - thanks for sharing sounds like it was awful. Weird how sometimes you can get into a drinking frenzy...I've been there and really hated when that happened to me. It's like it wasn't really me who was doing it and like I was spinning out of control. Thank god these things brought us here!

Nar - 69 and feeling fine (I saw your post on the roll call) good for you!!!

Everyone else - hello and I hope everyone is doing well today and has a wonderful AF weekend.

I felt so much better yesterday than I had in days...I hope it sticks! Those were a rough few days. I also started listening to the bubble hour you recommended NS - fascinating stuff and very helpful. I'm looking forward to listening to the rest of it!

During my 50 AF days (so far ), I have become acutely aware of feeling uncomfortable many times and wanting desperately to relieve that discomfort. I often do something else (exercise, music, walk the dog, read/post on MWO, etc) to get some relief, but I'm also realizing that at some point I need to develop the skills to just feel whatever I'm feeling.
I just watched this video that Skullbabyland posted: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HbYScltf1c&feature=kp.
It is funny but so true and touches on our reluctance to feel negative emotions -- just substitute whatever addiction you've had for obsessive checking of a cell phone.

It reminds me of a Brene Brown quote that really hit me when I heard it - you can't selectively numb. Your addiction might lessen the bad stuff but you lose all of the good feelings, too.

Someone recommended this thread to me so... Here I am. I'll read back tonight. Hope you are all enjoying whatever your day/night is bringing your way! I love seeing all the days racking up around here and the pool boy's not too bad either. It brings me hope for the future in more ways than one!

                  Hi Ladies!:h

Wags, YAYY!! to 50 days! :chick: That's a great amount of time. I really enjoy reading your thoughtful posts and getting to know you.

Nar, the big 69!!! That should actually be the day we're awarded some sort of hunk, shouldn't it? I just want to say that I find you to be so thoughtful and supportive of all of us. I really appreciate you.

Frances, I'm glad you're feeling better!
and LB, I'm glad you're pay day is coming up! I love pay day. Do you have some days off coming up?

My BF and I are celebrating our 8 year anniversary tomorrow and are happy after a very long, trying time. I was certain we would have to go our separate ways, but we have found some solutions to our problems and are learning to communicate better. It's so calm at home.

                  Big hugs to you all.:l

Many (most?) people use AL or other substances to relieve or alter some sort of mood or feeling, whether it's to relieve/decrease something uncomfortable or negative or to increase/create/augment something positive. If this becomes a habit, it's easy to lose sight of what the normal ebbs and flows of life really are.
                    .
For me, I started drinking when my friends did, but something overcame me that I'll never forget. A huge relief of anxiety. A feeling like, "Wow, I feel so normal and not afraid." I used to get sad when I'd have to wait a full week until I could drink on the weekends again. That was our regularly scheduled drinking times, until I was more adult-like and could drink just about any time I chose, which ended up being all the time. But yeah, I wonder how many people do this, drink to relieve anxiety-provoking situations. The older I get, the more I realize that many people are not comfortable in social situations. Not like I was with the severe social anxiety, but just that slight uncomfortable, uneasy feeling. Those that don't have a problem with al can have that drink or two and it works. Those that have that gene for alcoholism can't use that strategy and yes, it takes riding out that feeling and just facing it. Feel it!

                    Congratulations Wags on 50!

Nar, we know what you'll be doing tonight!!!!:H

                      Hi all
JVo - I also remember being a teenager and really looking forward to the drinking weekends... The signs were there
Up early for those of us who still don't sleep...but it's ok because it's the weekend
I am following an 8 week mindfulness course, I'm finding it really useful. I've been trying for about 6 months to practice meditation, mindfulness but haven't known how to do it

Mindfulness: A practical guide to finding peace in a frantic world by Mark Williams. The audio is fantastic, I'm just about to start week 3. If anyone is interested I highly recommend it!!

Hope you are all having a great Friday night except Ava, who like me, has already had her Friday night
                      Xx

I think I might give that a go too Patrice......I do believe the more at peace we are that we are less likely to drink......are you finding that?

Daisy, I am finding SO much more peace with this meditation and I really needed something to guide me through, I kept downloading random apps but they didn't really help. And because I am feeling more peaceful and less anxious ( I am taking an amino acid Theanine which I'm finding is fantastic for anxiety and stress)... I am not wanting to drink..
