From Bubba, Hank, and myself, a very Merry Christmas to all the gloamers!

Sitting here this morning, enjoying my Christmas morn coffee without any Bailey's in it!!! Reflecting back over this past year, I realize that I have so many things to be grateful for, sobriety, Bubba, Hank, our children, my AA fellowship, my renewed faith in God, and all of you on MWO!! Sobriety has taught me that it isn't "always about me" I no longer need to be in control of everything, it's okay to step back and let others help me. That's what all of you do for me, each and every day of the year! Lots of the newbies ask how we do it, how do we stay sober throughout the trials of everyday living? By reaching out for support is how! Simple as that! As Matt says, it is a 100% certainty that we can't do this on our own, so who better to help us than those that walk in the same shoes as us! And for that, I am truly grateful!

Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...
Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Just get through today. Tomorrow will look after itself when it becomes today, because today is all we have to think about.
Friendship is not about how many friends you have or who you've known the longest. It's about who walked into your life, said "I'm here for you", and proved it.

It was a BEAUTIFUL day here.
No matter how far you go or how fast you run, you can't get away from yourself. ....said at an AA meeting. It stuck with me.

Merry Christmas to all who are celebrating...I hope everyone had a nice day regardless of where you are or how you were spending it. I had 11 here and cooked for the group. I have to admit there were a few moments, with lots of wine bottles open - including one that I was using to make a wine reduction sauce - when it seemed odd not to be drinking. It would have been so, so easy to just pick up a glass and take a sip, as there were 1/2 empty glasses all over the place. Every time that thought occurred to me, I poured some more coffee for myself or stuffed a cookie into my mouth. It wasn't hard, just different and a feeling I had to be vigilant about all day. And I reminded myself how stupid it would be to have one sip, when what that lizard brain hiding inside me would really want is to get rip roaring drunk if I had one sip. Anyway, it was a beautiful day and I enjoyed myself and my family thoroughly without AL. This was my first sober Christmas and the pay off of not drinking was not drinking, in itself. It was also nice how proud my mom was of me. I also noticed that she drank way less than I've ever seen her at a holiday. So, I was surprised to learn that apparently that's her normal. My guess is that she was only keeping up with me before.

I'm curious how all of your days went -- NS, I hope you got through it all and was able to enjoy yourself with your family. I know you were stressed leading up to this day.

                  Have a great weekend, everyone!

I am doing a pre cancerous cell trearment to my forehead and have a swollen eye thia am.
                    Allergic reaction I guess, bizarre.
And it is hard to read to be honest.

Happy Holidays to all, happy to see everyone so strong!

El, thanks for posting. Hope your swelling goes down soon. Glad you are feeling strong. You are doing so well especially considering you are in a nother country and things are so different there.

Christmas was good for me. Today I was fighting the urge all day but now I am in bed and totally sober. Tomorrow, I will have to structure my day better so I have no chance of wanting a drink.
I realize I need structure, it really helps with not drinking because I have a schedule I have to stick to and drinking does not fit into it.
Have a great sober night everyone.

Narilly I have always found structure in my schedule very helpful. During the work week I have very seldom had a problem. It's always free time that's tricky for me.
Pepper congratulations on your first sober Christmas. It's a wonderful present to give yourself isn't it? This is my second and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Our Christmas was good here. Just hubby and myself.
My daughter is going through a difficult time right now. I can't be sure, but I think her drinking is beginning to be a problem for her. She seems to be struggling with it. I am afraid to talk to her about it because she is SO TOUCHY. I'm afraid to push her away. I'm here and will listen when she's ready. That's about all I can really do.
Eloise I hope your eye gets better and the treatment goes ok.
                        Have a good day GLOAMers.

Nar! Glad to see your post and that you made it. Great!
My face is a mess, digusting really, but I hope in the long run worth it.
My forehead looks like it was hit with acid. No kidding.

These next days will be challenging, so yes-agreed, layout a structured plan for yourself. And if that means home alone, so be it.
My point of view has changed so entirely it is kind of amazing. Thank god I stopped drinking!

A big HI to all the gloamers!

"Whew" nice to see Christmas come, but just as nice to see it behind us as well! So proud of all of us who made it through without drinking! I had a bit of a tough time Christmas Day because of the noise level and commotion, but pushed the thoughts aside by reminding myself that the gloamers don't drink! A relaxing day ahead of Bubba, Hank, and myself as it is return to work day tomorrow for us, and I'm looking forward to it! Too much sitting around for my liking the past few days and not even worried about working in the -22 temps, the fresh air and cold will feel good for a change!

Have relaxing Sunday my friends, and as the countdown to 2015 begins, remember, no drinkin' or druggin' eh!

Glad you got through Christmas Cowboy. It was a tough one for me. Just too much free time and booze around. It kinda threw me off. I am so glad I didn't drink.
I get another week off so I have to remain vigilant.
It is frickin cold out that is for sure. Oh well, Chinook is on the way.
                                Have a good one.
