    [QUOTE=little beagle;1586569
The other day i caught myself mentally becoming ugly and dredging up past memories of injustices. But this time was different. My logical self said STOP. You are tired and need to take a small break and refocus. I was extremely tired and thirsty. So I did stop, looked at a few beagle pics, got a drink and finished the job much happier.
A little more self care and a little less self pity. That is my goal for this new year.[/QUOTE]

I couldn't agree more LB. I catch myself all the time thinking 'you shouldn't be tired, you shouldn't feel this way...'

Outdated thinking. Moving into the new year I will make an effort to stop myself and examine those negative thoughts and work reprogramming this thinking.
    Great post Beagle!

I agree, Nar. Over the holiday when it wasn't busy and I was stressed and lacked enthusiasm for contributing much, I was thinking that maybe it had run its course. But I think it's important to have a thread that is "chatty" but with the overarching theme being to stay on course to gain and maintain sobriety. Yesterday I was thinking about the people who have left. Some of them may still be AF- I sure hope so. But the more important thing is to focus on the good number of people who have been participating in this thread and are succeeding. Maybe their involvement here was critical in their success. For me, the thought of posting on Gloamers that I'd decided to drink was a major deterrent from ever letting my guard down.

I hope old friends return and new ones join in. It's a pretty exciting mission we're on and I've found that doing it with you guys often is a lot of fun. xx- NS

Hi all, I know I became a part time poster, but I do feel this thread is a big part of my success, and if it works....why the heck would I stop? I find the right balance here, and happy to add in a bit more. I do read daily, so need to slow down to say hi too!

Molly, I will check out the army, thanks for tha post. I agree with what you said abou this thread. I have never really checked out the army thread so I am looking forward to reading there a bit.
One of my favorite things here is the light banter we have. There were some really hilarious moments in the past year. I know our AL problem is serious business but at the same time, it is ok to laugh at ourselves sometimes. I am not a serious person and humour is very important to me. You Gloamers make me laugh and that helps me a lot. Being drunk is not the only way to have fun or laugh.
This thread was the reason for my quit on April 12, SL, NS, Ava, J-Vo, Pav, Humble, Life , Jane,El, were some of the key people to help me stay sober- Rooni too.

Well, it's going to get frickin cold here today so I am off for a walk while temps ar 'ok'. It's -7C right now and going to -17C this aft. Gross! Have a great sober day Gloamers, keep being your beautiful selves.

SL, that was a Very interesting article. Can you imagine what our livers would have looked like when we turned 70 if we were still drinking? I can't imagine. I know that since I have quit drinking I am a lot less 'swollen'. My face used to be swollen from drinking all the time and I thought that was just normal.
It's amazing how much AL effects people negatively and they still keep on drinking. When I drank I really turned a blind eye to the health effects of drinking. I just wanted the buzz.

Very interesting article, SL -- I must admit I'm surprised that so much improvement came about in 4 weeks. I'm pretty sure I messed up my blood sugar with wine -- alcohol is well known to cause insulin resistance so even though I didn't eat much sugar, what I did consume and produce just stayed in my blood causing trouble. Not healthy at all so I'm really glad to be done with that.

I turned a blind eye to the negative effects, too, Nar, and blamed things I was experiencing on anything else, with advancing age being a convenient excuse. I avidly read the reports about the "benefits", particularly of my poison, red wine, and ignored the inherent weaknesses in the studies.

Turns out it definitely wasn't age - I'm older now and most of my ailments are gone or much improved.

This is a video I posted elsewhere about whether alcohol has any benefits or is simply a poison: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyHb4XsqABQ&app=desktop.

Hmmm, I'm not so sure, she could use a lot of support right now....

Yes, J-Vo will come back, she is a Gloamer no matter what! Hey, everyone, that is why we are here to support each other no matter what. No one is perfect and we all struggle in different ways.

                        Look for progress not perfection.

Everyone's journey to sobriety is different. Mine has been very rocky for the past 14 years. This time I think I have it figured out but it is a fine balance everyday and it ain't always easy.
There is an all out blizzard here. We managed to BBQ steaks in -17C weather and mmmmm they were delish. Nothin like Barbequed steak in cold weather. For some reason it tastes even better.

Howdy gloamers! Saturday morning, enjoying coffee inside! Nar, I couldn't agree with you more, no matter what stage of recovery we are in, day 1 or day 1000, the support here shows how much we care for each other!

We had the blizzard-like conditions yesterday as well! Dumped about 6" of snow on us here in town, the farm got closer to 8" The temp dropped throughout the day, is -25 this morning and supposed to keep dropping all day to a low of -30 tonight, wind chill to -48. That used to be a great excuse for me to stay inside and have a few (too many) beers, but today, I'll stick with hot coffee and will brave the cold and go shovel the driveway and sidewalk! We also had steak the other night done on the smoker, wrapped beef tenderloin with bacon, topped it with prawns, and smoked it with a mesquite and hickory mix!

Have a great day my friends, and it matters not where you are, enjoy what the day has in store for you, good or bad, just keep smiling! If nothing else, it will make people wonder what you're up too lol No drinkin' or druggin' eh!

                            Good morning Gloamers.
Hope everyone is having a fantastic day. We dropped our daughter off at the airport at 6:30 am to go back to University and then went for breakfast, I already made hummus and am off to the market.
Wow, all the stuff I can get done in the morning when I am not hungover still amazes me. I love waking up hangover Free. This is freedom for me. It was so hard before, trying to moderate and not being very good at it at all. My hangovers were getting worse and worse and the guilt and embarrassment more and more.
                            This is my Freedom 50!

I know, this cold is Brutal. I would like to just sit inside all day and keep warm. Have a great sober day.

May I get an order of hummus? My girls love it, I keep meaning to make my own, but one of those (many) things I don't get around to!
