I'm giving The Wire a shot, TT. Have you watched that? Given how old it is, it is interesting to see what technology was like even just a decade ago. I couldn't get into season 2 of TD, either. Maybe season 1 was just too good - it set our standards way too high. Plus, Nar - have you watched the 2 latest Dr. Fung talks? He's my new medical hero (wish he worked on hives, too!!).

The drinking in Bloodline didn't bother me in terms of my reaction but was such a stark commentary on alcohol use by people in general. Pretty sad.

Stay away from bears and snakes, Glomers!

I had another drinking dream last night. They are pretty much a standard. I resist, give in, drink, and then it hits me. What am I doing? Why would I want to go back through all of this again? This has been a rough summer and t H ere have been a couple of times I just thought, why not? But I know why not. These dreams are reflections of reality. They give my mind a way of working through all this.

Bloodline, holy moley, the drinking was crazy and it was definitely alcoholic drinking. A good reminder of what we don't want to do. I hear they are doing a second season, I hope so.
NS, I have watched ALL the Jason Fung videos and practice what he preaches. I have gotten down to the same weight I was when I got married which is crazy. I Love it! LCHF with intermittent fasting, oh yeah! I found it made a huge difference when I stopped using Stevia and Splenda. That's when the weight that was so hard to lose came off.

Oh! My hubby had a job interview today and has the second one on Tuesday!! Things are looking good. We are pretty confident he will get this job with an oil company in Calgary. It pays really well too. Please cross your fingers and toes and send good thoughts my way. Thank you!

I got into watching Dexter due to my teen son having it on. Have VERY mixed feelings about it as it's such a crazy concept of a serial killer who only kills other killers. The intriguing thing I have noticed about it though, is there is very little drinking. It is almost as if the writers, or producers, or somebody is recovering and doesn't want to "glamorize" drinking.

Sure, they do have their scenes where they're at the bar or here and there someone is imbibing but generally it's folks at the dinner table drinking water, or a restaurant scene where folks in the background do not have wine glasses. Kind of interesting to watch to just see how non drinking of AL beverages is going on. It is the hard part of our society how liquor (big business) is so glamorized and EVERYWHERE on shows and in so many ads. Folks previous posts on what they are watching just got me thinking about this and wanted to comment.

Addy, that is so interesting. I have never really watched Dexter but I know people love it. It is good they don't glamorize drinking. In Bloodline there was a ton of drinking. I almost stopped watching it because of that. The drinking was kinda gross if that makes sense.

Nar -the drinking didn't bother me on Bloodline cos it seemed so over the top. What did bother me was the swearing. I swear too and I am not a delicate flower but I get really fed up when its inserted into every sentence. It makes it hard to concentrate! Just like I was bit disgusted with all the swearing on a recent thread on MWO. I dont think thats how to handle things but I realize emotions get very very raw when Al is involved and also when people are on the internet and anonymous.

I tried to start watching The Wire last night and again the swearing got to me. I also see that this is part of the context. But it just went on and on. I will try to persevere with The Wire.
Have a great day/evening all. I am going through a lot of trials with my daughter today. Nothing bad - just a great opportunity has come her way to help out with university costs and she won't apply - although she is eligible and her school wants her too. My partner is doing his usual ostrich like behavior and just saying "its her decision". He can be so apathetic (thats how I see it - but he sees it as giving people choice). He will not take a pragmatic perspective on finances or opportunities but just coasts along! I have tried every rational argument in the book - as as well as some emotional ones. The deadline for her application is tonight.

Overuse of swear words does get old and can be distracting in shows. I used CC when I watched Bloodline and noticed that they just didn't print the F-bomb most of the time. They must have gotten tired of typing it! I sometimes feel like it is the easy way out to make a point - a good writer can communicate without resorting to vulgar shortcuts.

I'm using CC to watch The Wire, too. I can barely understand what is being said sometimes. Plus, there are so many characters! I hope it captures my attention and I stick with it but right now it seems like a lot of work for a leisure time activity!

Interesting observation about Dexter, Addie. I only watched a couple of those - too creepy! Like the F-word, I think excessive AL intake on shows is lazy shorthand for "these people are messed up" - not much nuance!

I hope your daughter puts in her application, TT. It's ironic how many places have money available and no one applying for it, at least here in the U.S. Some aren't large grants or scholarships, but they can help.

Good to see you, MyLuck and Pie. If you 2 aren't ladies on missions, I don't know who is! Are you still doing hot yoga MyLuck?

If anyone here has type 2 diabetes or loves someone who does, you should check out the Jason Fung videos Nar and I were discussing. He makes it so clear why current treatments can be making the problem worse!

OMG - I think the Wire is one of the BEST TV SHOWS EVER! So, so good. And if you listened to Serial also, you know that it is a good representation of the Baltimore police department. There is a scene in the Wire where for 7 minutes all two detectives say is f*&k or some derivation thereof. It is brilliant, IMHO, but I guess I am used to swearing so it doesn't bother me. Enjoy, NS. I think you will.

LB - Sorry about your dream and thoughts. I know that you know all of the ways to prevent those thoughts from turning into drinking - take good care of yourself. How did Mr. B's counseling go today? Maybe that's why you had that dream??

I am super irritated with my husband who got a warning about taking care of himself, but continues to live the same life as before. Very irritating.

Pav, that is super irritating about your hubs. I guess that's life. They just don't do what we think they should sometimes darn men! Ok, where do I find this show The Wire? Netflix, HBO? I am interested to find it.

I am going to my hometown tomorrow. The last time I was there was for our 25tj reunion and I got just plastered. Lots of others did as well but I still feel really stupid about it. I definitely won't be drinking tomorrow. I will wake up Un Hung and be rarin to go. Oh yeah.
