SK - actually my fella is pretty good looking and he is tall, so with the "right" clothes, he can get away with the stomach.
Now here is a gem I found while eating breakfast - Walt Whitman's advice to American men. I hope MrG and Sam take note.
Walt Whitman’s lost advice to America’s men: meat, beards and not too much sex | Books | The Guardian
I know this all is not what the Gloamers should be discussing!

Hi Gloamers.
Thanks for the Walt link TT. Love the use of language from the day. Good this stuff wasn't lost through the ages.
Here's Walt urging the reader: “To you, clerk, literary man, sedentary person, man of fortune, idler, the same advice. Up! … Out in the morning!
“America has mentality enough, but needs a far nobler physique.” And “there is no doubt, as things now are, among the young men of modern civilised life, in cities, that a healthy manly virility seems to be almost lost – seems to have given place to a morbid, almost insane, pursuit of women, especially of the lowest ranges of them, for the mere repetition of the sensual pleasure."
Have a beaut weekend everyone.

MAE Gloamers,
Sunday evening in Oz. Still pretty flat, but appreciate the insights & advice from folk here.
NS, learning new things is a great way to feel better!
Mr G, appreciate what you say about your daily ritual. Something I need to work on.
Kuya, what you say about being 'a work in progress' resonates. Have given up alcohol & smoking, but still use Valium sometimes (some people would say that means I'm still not 'sober'), and still eat too much sugar...Will keep taking small steps along the wellbeing road.
Peace to all, have a great week,

Good morning!
I saw a meme comparing the effectiveness of birth control. The pill, 98% effective. Condoms, 99% effective. Socks with Teva sandals - 100% effective. Your post made me think of it, TT.
I had a very stressful week and didn't think of going to the booze once. It was refreshing! I know those thoughts will still come, but it is nice to see them not as often.
Off to get 100 chores done on this beautiful day. Must make time for some outdoors as well. Hope everyone has a great, Sober Sunday.

Haha Pav. Socks and sandals. For you edification I attach a look that was much loved my men in New Zealand and Australia in the past - knee length shorts and long socks
They argued that this was the look that went with summer, but retained a sense of formality. Not so common now thank goodness.
At least Mr GB and I still have our humor.
Soft Focus - hang on in there and all others here who are struggling. As Pav says, it gets easier but this can be such a long process.

Hi gang, Trudging along sober. Feeling a bit better with the latest med which is OCD specific. Its been helpful especially for stopping picking at anything pickable (face = biggest victim there). Still dragging a bit and lacking drive to do all the daily shit but I have exercised 2x, dragged myself out to get my hair colored and 2 pairs of hubs shoes fixed, and that is progress that I will gladly celebrate. Nice to see you SL. Hi LB, Pav, NS, TT, G and everyone else. xoxoAF since January 7, 2014 *Never, never, never give up. ~ Winston Churchill*

Thanks Mr G. It was low key here but good. Daughter cooked dinner and gave me lots of hugs. We had a walk together and a driving lesson (for her).
Happy Mother's Day to my Gloamer pals.
Jane - well I am sure being sober makes it easier to trudge along. Let's hope you get some joy back soon. It sounds so tough and I am thinking of you.
Take care everyone.

Thank goodness for supportive children, LB. I know its not always like this but its wonderful when they are understanding - as indeed we are, hopefully, for our kids.
Thinking a wee bit about triggers and associations.I think its good if we can separate these two processes out for ourselves.
I don't seem to get triggers anymore but sometimes there is an association of an activity that was 'enhanced' in the past with AL. Like today, I am getting ready for an overseas trip (mostly work). As part of this I have to make decisions about what to wear, what accessories to take etc. In the past, I used to enjoy preparing for such trips by trying on different clothes - accompanied by drinking. It was a sort of timeout for me - trying on clothes is a luxury I rarely indulge in - as I dont usually take much time to worry about my outfits - but when you travel, it all has to go into one suitcase so you have to plan. The trip prep and drinking was definitely part of the travel ritual. The association is still there - but I dont want to or need to drink. Anyway - in that convoluted way (as usual!) I am trying to say that I think that although the associations may still be there, they dont have to be triggers.
The good thing about getting ready for a trip sober is that one is far less likely to make stupid mistakes. Like so many things we do I guess.
Anyway, hope you are all doing well.
