Ladies on a Mission: The Official Site

Oh Nar i hope you feel better soon. Nothing like the flu, a work colleague has been off for two weeks now and it is our summer. I had bronchitis and a chest infection last winter but still managed to keep drinking, what a trooper i was!

No wonder you are sick if it is -27 where you are.

Good morning, Australia and good night from me in the western US.

Great congratulations to you, Scottish Lass - I saw your thread and know you have been wanting to do 30 days for a long time. Way to go!

Humble, 40 is impressive, too. I would be with you if I didn't have what I'll call the Thanksgiving Massacre, but instead I am finishing Day 12. Stay strong, and stay 28 days ahead of me!

Star, Giraffe and R4L, great to see you back.

Here is something I posted in the Nest but wanted to share with you all:

One thing that struck me in that interview that Treetops posted earlier had to do with happiness. In surmising why female alcoholics are more prevalent now than 20 years ago, say, the hypothesis is that women are less happy than they were before. The researcher (her name escapes me now) says that actually we’re not less happy, we just have a greater expectation of happiness and when we’re not happy we think something is wrong with us. I think the human condition comprises ups and downs, and dealing with the downs without alcohol or drugs (depression and other mental illnesses not included) is part of being alive. Of course there are things we can do to minimize the unhappiness (exercise, eat well, be with friends and family), but we just need to experience them and we will get through them. I believe that is one of the premises of mindfulness (someone step in if I’m wrong).

I am back from my work holiday party which was awkward and boring, but a drink would not have helped that. I had a few laughs with a few people, and drove home safe and sober. I am watching my taped shows (Top Chef tonight - just starting this seasons episodes).

Yes, J-Vo, DH and the kids are at the Hobbit. I went to the first one with them last year on what was the Sandy Hook shootings day. I was so upset and disturbed that I couldn't sit through the movie. It is very sad and upsetting to me that the shooting took place in Colorado today as they are at the next movie. What a terrible coincidence. Sorry to be a downer.

I have been so busy at work and home that I really haven't had time to respond to you all. I hope everyone feels great (Narilly, even through the flu) and sober. I am grateful tonight to be able to come learn and laugh with you all. Have wonderful sleeps or wonderful days, wherever you are. I hope I can read and respond more this weekend. xo

Pat what did you load onto your ipad if i may ask? Glad we have Dot to help us computer nerds out though i did tell my son i put on kindle on my laptop and he was amazed.

Good on you Pav for making it through the party. I am going to have a boring party next week but my work colleagues are not big drinkers, well not in public so i will be fine. I loved your saying"thanksgiving massacre", too funny!

I am going to watch a youtube vid now by Cherry Healey - Old Before My Time, about alcohol of course but recommended on the NN.

Well Ava, I downloaded Drinking a Love story through the usual way I download movies and then once it finished downloading I realised I couldn't read it on the lappie ( not taking it anyway) because I don't have kindle so then had the bright idea to put it into itunes and from there I plugged in the ipad and it downloaded onto to my ipad.. like magic!! Haha so happy about that!
Doing this in between packing.. Is old before my time a movie?
Also Ava, nearly downloaded 'orange is the new black' the first series ( been recommended by a few people here)

Well arent you a clever woman! Well done. I will start reading the book tonight i think. Old is a documentary about young ppl and al, made me cry but so scary that we are alive to tell the tale. What is "Orange etc", what is it about?

Packing, i hate packing, always pack way too much.

                      Hi ladies and gent,
Thanks to all of you for the well wishes and support as I hit 40 days yesterday. I'm really shocked at myself frankly. I don't quite understand my resolve this quit, but I relish it and I hope it lasts. SL, congrats on your 30th, such an accomplishment!

I liked Drinking: A Love Story, read it years ago, shows how long I've been at quitting. I remember reading a book on the topic in my mid-thirties during a quit of a couple days...sigh...but as Ava said, now "the switch is on and shining brightly."

Pav, soon those 28 days that I am ahead won't matter much at all since we will have hundreds of days. Good for you on remaining sober through that party.

Narilly, it does feel so great to really be sick for a change as an excuse to stay home instead of being fricking hungover! And Ava, haha, I too was a drinking machine when sick. Man, the fortitude I had to keep guzzling alcohol in the throes of any illness. You should have seen me after my hysterectomy, blotto.

Giraffe, I pm'd you about getting started on blipfoto. In order for us to find your journal and become your friend, you need to post at least one photo. When you find us, click on any of our photos and then click on the plus sign on the bottom--you will be subscribed to our journals.

Later, all. Have a great AF MAE.

                        MAE all:

Another long day with eating and parties ahead of me. I'm off for some exercise so I can get through it in one piece.

                        Safe travels, Patrice.

I'll check in later in the day.

Morning sweet ladies, thank you for all your well wishes. So cool.

Humble, I feel I have more resolve this quit too. I know you ladies have really helped with that. It's amazing how much we have in common in terms of AL.

'Orange is the New Black' I watched the first series. It's a good show based on a true story of a woman sent to Jail when she really should not have been. I heard her speaking about it on the radio, it's pretty interesting.
Pav and all you other party animals, I actually am missing my hubby's party tonight because I am sick. Yay! I'm going to lay on the couch and sip tea. I don't have to worry about AL. Isn't it great,Pav, actually driving home after the party and not having purple wine mouth? Yay!
Avail- I actually thought of having a hot toddy last night for a second. OMG I used to have about 3,4,5 of them before. Oh ya, that will make me feel better! Not.
Dottie, your a pretty tech savy gal, thanks for helping us to figure it all out.
Pat- I love the jungle sounds you hear but ya, the heat would kill me, I agree.
J-Vo, SL- great to read your posts. Stay strong ladies.

Ok, my head is spinning. Going back to bed.
                                Xx
