Checking in. Day 13. Have enjoyed all of your posts. Staying busy, but find myself thinking about AL a lot. But it seems like my thoughts continue & I think of what I become when I do drink- very predictable behavior...really happy, really mad, then really sad. I really do not want to go there, so I will not. Thanks to all of you beautiful & courageous women.

Hi - well I am pooped!! Was fast asleep when my alarm went off of course. And I for one look NOTHING like the lady in NS's posts - that is for sure....
Not much to say today (never have very much to say, but today is a quiet one for sure) - checking in to stay on the straight and narrow. Been getting some finances in order today, doing some cutting back as cost of health insurance has gone up a fair bit...would think I should be rich with all the money I am not spending on AL, but not sure where that money has gone??
See you later...“The only courage you will ever need is the courage to live the life you want"

You are doing the best thing, RiverGal - playing those thoughts of AL all the way through to the inevitable bad conclusion. The people who have trouble are the ones who remember only the "good" parts of having a drink.
Add to those thoughts of what you've avoided all the good things you've gained by not drinking and you'll have the brain of a nondrinker sooner than seems possible !

I am NOT a financial wizard at all - good luck with that task!
Keep on that straight and narrow path, SL. I promise you will never regret it!

Hi Ladies,
Spent most of the day getting files put away for last year and setting up new ones for this year. I like to be able to find things...
-6 here now and predicting -20 to -35 below tonight wind chill...staying in tomorrow too I would imagine. Poor doggies don't even want to out to pee..what a mess..this is not normal for here and hasn't been this cold for decades. I need warmth and sunshine......bbbbrrrrrr
Drinking lots of hot tea and sleeping pretty well. Thankfully I dont think about wine every day. So newbies it does get better....just hang in there.

MAE Ladies,
You know, one thing that helps to keep me sober is reading all the new titles in the posts, and reading posts of terrified newcomers. Devasted and Terrified, Feeling guilt and shame, I hate you AL, Blacked out and Cheated. I know we don't have much sobriety time in the real world, and just coming here and seeing what can happen so quickly, how we can return to that devastation keeps me going. Just sayin...
Rivergal, how about checking out the toolbox. There are lots of great ideas if you're feeling shaky. Don't go back to those dark days. Stay with us!
Star, glad you daughter is returning tonight. I hope it's a good reunion.
NS, great pics! But I don't wake up like that. Maybe I should just pretend one morning to force a smile on my face at 5 a.m. and see what happens.
Ava, yuck!!! "Babe?" FFS!
Dottie, my doggie won't go out to pee either. Think we'll have some accidents in the next few days.
Giraffe, we must chat about this anxiety thing. I've got 20 years of severe anxiety I can talk to you about, and pretty scary stuff. I'd love to talk to someone who understands and has been in the same boat. And as you say you stuttered and shook, me too, although my whole upper body became red blotches, even on my face. Very ugly and terrifying. Not pretty. I am on benzos prescribed by my doctor for these extreme anxiety attacks. But again, if you wanna chat, pm me and we'll pick a time.
So, ladies, have a great night! Don't hate me, but school is cancelled tomorrow because of extreme low temps. Going down to -2 tonight (Nar, keep your comments to yourself :h...) I made a much needed hair appt.!Sometimes what you're most afraid of doing is the very thing that will set you free.

So agree j-vo!
Hope all is going well Star, I am sure it is tough times.
This weather is crazy - Just drove girls to orthodontist appts, and everyones lawns are dead. I am glad we are not as cold as rest of nation, but this no rain is getting seriously ridiculous - a bit scary.
NS - just noticed you are coming up on a year! Wow - how exciting is that?
PS - j-vo, can you pick my hair up on the way, I need a shearing too - may manage to get it done Friday, but Fridays list keeps growing!“The only courage you will ever need is the courage to live the life you want"

I burst out laughing at those happy women stretching to greet the day. Even though we don't resemble them in the least, when you ladies start talking about how you wake up fresh and raring to go, I picture you in my mind just like these pics! I'm making dinner right now, but just thought I'd check in. All of you in the cold, take care and be warm. Day 65 here. Hugs all.Every AF day is a milestone.

Hi, Loamers:
I look JUST like that when I wake up - how did you know?! Hah - I was sound asleep with drool at the corner of my mouth when the alarm went off this morning - hard to get up for sure, but I had a great day back.
Ava - There must be something seriously wrong with that guy who YAWNED with you at the table. I hear you about the wine glass talking to you - I notice what people are drinking a lot right now. It is fleeting, but I do notice (like Jason Bourne - I hope you all have seen those movies). And, I had better NEVER be ahead of you, babe :ey:.
J-Vo - I hear you about those thread titles and posts. Thank goodness I never have to feel like that again. And they are good reminders of just how I DID feel - blech. Never, never want to go back there. Thanks for the reminder...
Rivergal - I follow that advice of NoSugar's for sure. If I even have the inkling of "well maybe I can moderate down the road a bit," I just play out what that "moderation" would look like, and recall down to the awful taste in my mouth what I never want to experience again. She even suggested (and I followed her advice then, too, as I think I usually will here), that I write down EXACTLY how I felt when I first signed up here so that I will always have it to look back on. I wrote some of it here, but wrote it in much more detail in my journal here at home. I always will have it to look back on if I feel wobbly. You are rocking it - keep it up, and keep posting here.
SL - I am with you about the brown grass. The air is horrible - it feels like the coming of the apocalypse (as I'm sure it does for you all in the minus whatever weather. Dottie - I keep imagining your dogs peeing ice cubes.
Narilly - I want your exercise motivation! I love it, too, but I have a hard time in the early mornings which is what I would have to do most work days. What kind of yoga do you do and when? Do you ever do it at home? What DVD, if so?
Star - I'm glad your daughter seems to be ok and that you might see her tonight. Thoughts are with you and your family. I hope you're taking care of yourself, too.
Humble - 65 is the new 100. What's for dinner? And NS - you have a VERY BIG day coming soon. I can't wait to celebrate with you.
Giraffe and J-Vo - I hope you don't think I was minimizing your anxiety, just trying to be helpful. I hope you ladies find some relief! I deal with students having panic and/or anxiety attacks from time to time (and I used to have panic attacks back when I was in college). No fun at all.
Here's my question to ponder for tonight...
I have been thinking about AA and why it is successful - someone on another thread posted that he was having trouble with step 5, and I know many alcoholics who have credited "working the steps" for their sobriety. My question is - most of us on this thread don't go to AA, so what is it about working the steps that helps people? In particular, I am thinking about step 8 (I had to look them up) which says that you need to make amends to those you have wronged. What does that look like if you don't go to AA? Is it still an important step to specifically make amends? Is just showing up sober and present (i.e. not a dry drunk) day after day amends enough (that is if we didn't abuse, steal or something more criminal)? Does anyone go to AA here and work the steps?
OK - a lot to ponder and I know that we are all back to work, but respond if you see fit.
Thanks for being here to at least lay eyes on my long posts - sorry if you've already left for work, Ava. Now you'll have something to read at lunch...
Good night from day 36 (!)
