Quick check in here - hope all is wonderful in everyone's AF land, and managing to cope with all life throws (including floods Jane :hug when nicely sober.
Narilly - read your post on another thread. I really struggled to loose weight the last couple of years - I used to know exactly what to do to drop a couple pounds as needed, but nothing worked. I worked hard on it and nada! I have added fat back in - butter, eggs, avocado, real mayonnaise - and I am loosing weight, I am less than I have been since before my first pregnancy....
Off to break my hand - dishes need doing, laundry.......yep, 3 years LOA for hand sounds perfect!“The only courage you will ever need is the courage to live the life you want"

Hi Pav!
SL, I think the key to this way of eating is to listen to your body and don't eat too much. Have 3 good meals a day with Fat in them via meat, avocado, coconut, butter etc. and then don't snack. Keep the carbs down. They say this 6 meal a day thing is not what we need and we need more fat, less carbs.
This whole new way of thinking has really thrown me for a loop. After almost 30 years of really watching my diet and eating more fruits, veggies and grains and Low fat, its a tough one to get my head around. I think its going to take a bit of time but I have to say I really enjoy having bacon, cream in my coffee and using butter without guilt. YUM!
My body does not miss all the carbs from Booze!
Have a wonderful Sober Wednesday.Narilly

There is an interesting, well-written book on the topic, Nar and SL - http://www.thebigfatsurprise.com/. It is not written by an MD or Nutrition PhD which might at first put people off but frankly, I've found that people who haven't been mislead by their educations (as I was) but who can analyze scientific data are better reporters than those who don't realize or won't admit that many of their underlying assumptions are wrong.

NS, I HAVE that book!! Wow, that's cool, great minds think alike.
I have been reading it every night and it totally astounds me how the science was manipulated to suit the veggie, fruit, grain diet. Un believable the way they used information to prove their hypothesis instead of really questioning if their hypothesis was right and putting it through the scientific rigours it should have been put through.
It has become part of main stream knowledge now that fats are bad and eating fruit and veggies is the way to go. I still can't get my head around it and that makes me angry at the way we have been misled.Narilly

I'm glad you're reading it, Nar. I eat a ton of veggies and some fruit now and then. The products I really avoid as much as possible are the processed ones in general and those containing grains, sugar, or vegetable oil in particular. What I found fascinating/disturbing was how economic and political interests trumped health concerns and the data itself! To make nationwide (and ultimately global) recommendations without having conducted the experiments to justify them (and to verify there would be no negative consequences) is unbelievably bad public health policy. Talk about a huge, uncontrolled experiment!!

Hello all,
Very tired. Went to volunteer at the hospital today to help a friend with some paperwork. Took hubbs along too so he worked on the spreadsheet while I made calls. Feels good to be productive but tired too.
Hubbs gets his pre surgery physical tomorrow. He is having some pain and he just cant stop lifting things....I smack him but he is a man and does NOT listen.
I will try to catch up.

Hi,
Thank goodness I never gave up butter!
I lost a lot of weight by just cutting out "carbs" as I knew them to be (except of course alcohol). Bread, pasta, chips, potatoes, etc. When I went back to eating them again, I didn't add in anything with wheat which kept bread, pasta and crackers off my plate. I managed to keep the weight off just by doing that, although I have always been pretty careful about eating fruit and veggies. I lost more weight when I quit drinking - really amazing as I added ice cream, but whatever. Anyway - I never cut out fat. My husband insists on buying low fat crackers and other processed crap, and guess what - he DOESN'T lose weight!
Anyway...
Jane - Loved that link. So sorry about your flooding. Sometimes I think I am being told to get rid of "stuff" when something like that happens. One way to look at it???
SL - So sorry about your daughter. My friend just found out his daughter has been cutting herself (15) and it was the school who found it. He felt so guilty for not noticing. We can only do what we can do with these kids. I thought the terrible twos were hard!
Speaking of kids - too much time helping with homework, so it is late and I need to get to bed.
G'night.
xo

Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...
Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Just get through today. Tomorrow will look after itself when it becomes today, because today is all we have to think about.
Friendship is not about how many friends you have or who you've known the longest. It's about who walked into your life, said "I'm here for you", and proved it.
