Morning all. Wet and warm here. Things were a bit quiet on the thread these past few days ? including moi ? at least yesterday!

Sam ? how?s it going? Is it wet also where you are?

Mick- ochh!! The leak! Not good so I hope you found the source of the deluge. As I have mentioned I am getting quotes on repairs for the house. Looks like some of the wall bits will have to be replaced ? kind of tricky given the house design. Might have to put some new ventilation in. I can?t get much done before Feb but am trying to get some quotes. Ochh ? my pocket!! :H

Pauly ? you sound busy so don?t get too frantic. Mould is a constant battle we face in our house ? partly also because we have so much bush outside. Don?t worry about New Year?s ? as you said its really just another Tuesday. I rarely made it to midnight when I was drinking ? like you I would fall asleep. I still recall New Year?s beginning of 2012 when I upset my daughter with my complaining and behaviour ? please, never again. I can?t recall what we did last year and I was sober!:H

PPQP ? hope you get some decent sleep. I had a restless Monday/Tuesday evening ? I put it down to me reading the screen too late at night.

Det/Bear ? you have your issues to deal with ?and you will decide if you want to quit or not. Det ? you have really been in the long haul and know your demons better than anyone else. Bear ? you seem undecided ? and as I have said, I think if you really want to quit ? you might wish to not put yourself in drinking situations for the time being ? regardless of whether or not they are old friends. But its up to you and you might not want to completely abstain. Hope the anxiety issues are being dealt with.

Narilly ? how is the ODAT going? I bet its going well for you.

Patrice ? have you left for NZ yet? Try to post when you can although I guess it will be hard when you are travelling. Make the most of your time with your Mum.

Lav ?it sounds so cold where you are. Slush, slush, slush ? the glamour of snow! :HPity we don?t all have a legion of servants to clear it up for us. I clean up after my servants!:H

SF ? you were quiet over the weekend. Hope you are doing well.

morning all...and how are we this morning?thankfully it has stopped raining ...for the momen t well here at Chez Grizwolds ,managed to find out where the water was coming from.It has been raining so hard that the drainage holes in the double glazing could not cope with the amount of water they were having to get rid of...so whats got to happen now is all 8 windows have got to come out and extra holes drilled in...never got too much done yesterday ..just been swimming... 62 lengths , now back home and the rabbits are out..had to shut their hutch with them out of it ..even they are getting lazee!!

Ok on with the show..tea and coffee available the noo!!

Evening tt ..how has your day been?sounds like you are having some major work done in your gaff ...are the walls brick built?as for putting extra ventilation in the walls...hmmm thats easy..its called a hole!!

morning here and a hello
every year at Christmas time, the wife decides it is time to clean house. So this process gets quite involved and it is amazing that we live in a small house that can hold so much crap. Now there is talk of putting up a tree. Tree hunting use to be the grand excuse for drinking, but not this year, I'm happy to say. I have really enjoyed my sobriety so I'm not going let a little ol xmas tree bring it down.

greetings to you Mick, been able to get out some. Got around the mountain job before the weather really hit. Now we need to compute where the corners may be. Glad you know where the leak was. That's 80.02% of the game.

Good morning Abbers!

Woke to a fresh coating of snow - just what we needed around here :H
I heard that the temps are rising to 60 degrees on Sunday - the first full day of winter. Something is definitely screwed up in the weather department.

TT, my Greater Swiss Mountain dog does her best to eat snow for me - seriously :H

pauly, keeping myself & my thoughts in the present has helped me through everything these past 5 years. Keep your thoughts on today & do not worry about tomorrow, New Years Eve or anything else. The one day at a time thing really works.

I have lots & lots to do so I'll take a cup of coffee & get going.

Mae everybody,outstanding jokes today mick thank you,jeez sounds like its gonna be a pain in the butt to do all that work for the leak! you know drinking really is stupid when you step back and rationally look at it,but us alkies sometimes are not rational,its funny i made hubs some onion rings on saturday and i had him buy me a can of budweiser for the batter,ugh when i was stirring it in it stunk sooo bad,now why on earth would i want to drink that?bleh! lav is right to only focus on TODAY,if i start thinking of new years and a "maybe"it opens the gate for "well shoot,may as well just start now since ill be drinking then anyways"devlish bastard! i dont want that,i just keep playing the REAL scenario in my head,hope everyone has a good tuesday

Pauly - there are alternatives for beer batter I think . But The AL in the beer batter gets all cooked off - otherwise they wouldn't serve it to kids! We just need to be careful having the stuff in the house.

I am off to a party tonight (its Wed here) and will be in booze and food heaven - but I don't drink AL anymore and I couldn't care less who knows. I can conjure up a look in my eye that conveys "don't mess with me mate!" .

Sam -I also tried to superclean our house for Christmas but I did not have cooperative housemates :H - so it was piecemeal. Will get the structural stuff sorted first (like the walls and windows in my bedroom - and a new carpet). Can't do that before Feb as all the builders take their annual holidays at this time of the year.

Hells - looks like I have written the Wednesday post already!

Haven't had a chance to read back. Been a very hectic day and am home for a quick bite of supper then back to the centre for a community garden meeting.

Temps got to +8 so lots of slush. Hope to get there and back before the snow starts again tonight. High tomorrow only -17. This is really starting to wear on me.

hidy ho ho ho ABeroooos!

feeling tons better happy to say, implementing my new years resolution early. I think that's best since I know what it is and I need it. my dear wife knows what my problem is: I help those around me with great care and effort, then neglect myself like I don't count. it's a self-esteem issue that works a tricky weave with depression and a damaged alcoholic brain. I have to visualize myself as a dear friend or loved one, and treat myself accordingly.

did something very unusual today. Dx has been wanting me to go to the historic Carson hot springs for years now and today out of the blue I said 'lets go!' and we had a marvelous time. it was a strange feeling doing something so relaxing, therapeutic, and in no way related to work. I'm so relaxed and moved by this simple experience. I have to learn to overcome being a work-a-holic and see myself as a person worthy of goodness. oddly, it's a big deal for this hard head of mine.

Sam, allergic to garlic? wowser.

Glad you are on a mission to improve the self-care Det
I recognize a lot of the same traits in YB that you just described.
I was never able to convince him that the workaholic thing is no substitute for good self-esteem.
I beat myself up because of that & am grateful I was able to put a stop to that cycle. I'm still working on him, little by little

PQ, you poor snow bunny! Do you have snow shoes? I really feel for you!
