Well its New Years Eve (day) here and I don’t have a kids party to watch balloons fall from the ceiling. Boo hoo. :upset: Be sure to take some earplugs Lav!

Bit quiet yesterday on the thread but its still Monday for most of you as I post this – so things might pick up.

Hope we hear from Mick soon. Maybe he is searching for an extra juicy cache of jokes for Hogmanay.:H Although I have Scottish ancestors I won’t be first-footing that's for sure.

Welcome Darkest Diamond. Good to see you here and you sound a lot more positive than you have been. Yes AL casts a grim shadow on problems big and small. But being sober ultimately will make it easier to deal with them – or it not easier, at least we can deal with them. Being AF doesn’t mean problems go away and I certainly had a good old moan yesterday.

Two years ago my solution for the fugue I feel at the moment would have been to hide in a wine bottle. I would have either been the ultimate misery-guts on NYE or I would have gone into manic attack to have a sudden small NYE gathering. The latter would have provoked profound anxiety for me and my family, I would have over-cooked, over-cleaned and over-stocked on AL. We all can fill in the rest of that scenario – tears, tiredness and asleep by midnight – waking up early the next day and feeling profound remorse, guilt, etc etc – oh YUK! I don’t want that and I don’t want to inflict it on others. So maybe I have to cut those nearest to me a little slack when they are lazy but it doesn’t mean I won’t kick them up the bum if they don’t move today. :H

Thinking of you Pauly as you have to face Hubby’s court appearance. Try not to over-agonise. Have you planned a quiet evening or will that be impossible? I imagine NYE in Vegas is 'unique' !

SF – are you still going to the ‘adult’s party’? Or decided to stay with the boys?

Narilly – enjoy the birthday. What kind of cake are you planning?

Well it's a lovely sunny day already so I think I will try to get outdoors as we have more deluges predicted for the coming days. You all take care today and enjoy being AF on NYE.

In London it is 18.35 right now on Monday 30th December 2013, so nowhere near NYsE yet!! Going to AA candlelight meeting that I love soon, tomorrow will definitely not be drinking. Now going to attempt to set up emergency computer as this one is dying a death!! (hopefully repair people can bring it to life) Treetops you must be hours and hours ahead of me, find all these time differences fascinating!! Where are you?

Glad to say I managed to set up my emergency computer, am typing on it now so even if the old one takes a while to be repaired I will be ok!! Have been to candlelight meeting, returned and eaten, still not yet midnight here, so still Monday 30th.... but feel upbeat about tomorrow!!

TT-I loved your play on my words regarding the party Ummm....now that I think about them making it an "adult" party....maybe there is something I don't know about the party I would not trade an "adult" party for spending New Year's Eve with my boys. No freaking way!

Still the 30th here...Thank God....I would not make it to midnight tonight!

Det-glad you are on the 100% side of things. Funny---I found a list I made sometime last year today.....it said "Be Af 95% of the time".....who was I kidding

Lav....your kids party sounds like so much fun and what a great tradition to set forth in their minds. Too many times mine were exposed to me wasted by midnight:upset:

I love the week between Christmas and New Year's. It seems to be the only slow week I have all year.

YahYah.....I use this time for reflection on the past year. It can be amazing to see how much I actually did in a year. Its also amazing how much starts to fall into place once I truly pursued a life without AL. I also see where there can be some tweaks and adjustments. The family has decided to set aside 1 hour a night....one will practice violin, the other guitar and hubby will work on his music. Me---there are several yoga poses I have yet to crack. I also need to get on a regular eating schedule and sleeping schedule. These are two things I tend to neglect. Like you said....lifestyle changes.

wow ..so many people on here already!!!Morning all and how are we today?ok I hope..well yesterday for me was a no starter of a day..I had a severe case of pissed off ness and felt right down ..so instead of translating it into words on here ..thought it best to stay out of the road!!Hasten to add it had nothing to do with me drinking ..that was defo not even in the picture!!Computer died on me yesterday..I have now got my daughters..she is after an Ipad air....some price they are..ok on we go with the show

Found that the lack of online support ( had no internet) was a major thing, so in that respect I am glad to be back... Jet lagged but looking forward to catching up

a quick post and off to work. The wife and I are going to a party tonight, got my apple cider, af of course, iced and ready to go. We'll play some tunes, the wife will yak with friends and then home. She's not much of a drinker so there's another form of support. Actually, my friends by now know that I'm not drinking so they don't bother me very much about it other than an occasional, "still not drinking?". I am actually most glad about my choice and certainly most grateful to you all here; Lav, TT, Mick, Yah Yah, SF, Byrdie, PQ, Det, Narily, DD, Dream, Cinders, Patrice and I know I've left out some other folks, I don't mean to.... the risk of relying on my memory. Thanks for a great year, I'm looking forward to another!!

Mae everybody,Mick what the heck is a balakava?i thought it said "baklava"(yum),Happy New Year TT! and all you others who get it early,we arent doing a thing tonite except get pizza and make hot wings,even in my heavy duty drinking days we never went anywhere,except last year i went to Kells boyfriends parents house already drunk of course,they were dressed up all nice having a family get together drinking,and i show up with Kellie,drunk and in my jammies! what an idiot,and of course they just put up with me cuz whatre they gonna do?so my dilema now is Kell wants me to watch baby Louie overnite aah! im just nervous cuz i sleep like the dead,plus if i wake up during the nite i have a rough time nodding off again,however i want to cuz she hasnt had a free nite in 9 1/2 months,oh well ill see how i feel later,have to work today and i know its gonna be slammed,tiring,well hope everyone has a good tuesday

having a very slow work day here...might sneak off to the hot springs with Dx and do a hot mineral soak.

Patrice, I also get lonely when on travel which has lead me to evil temptations. it's something we have to learn to overcome somehow. I try to mentally 'bring you with me' if that makes sense. call an AF friend or something helps too. the problem is that once the voice of AL gets too deep in my head I just won't call anyone. that's a habit I certainly must break. I tend to ignore the warning signs and keep blundering along. not the best plan for success.

Sam, I'm such a nerd the only music I play are musical APPs on my ipad. LOL maybe I'll do some of that tonight. Dx will go hang out with some friends tonight at a party but I'm staying home to be warm and AF in comfort. I sound like such an old fart!
