Gentle January ~ AF Week 1

    Good morning to all...

So nice to get up and find all these posts. Remember, I live with two males, they don't talk in the am.

DarkestDiamond, thanks again for your well wishes for my son. He is doing better and better, even went out for dinner and a movie with a friend last night. I was thinking about your being in a good place at one time with AA, meditation, etc., and slowly going back to old ways. Letting stress take over. I have done the same thing in my life, and I guess the secret is to be mindful, not let ourselves go back down the road of HELL. Because for me drinking is hell. I have to really watch when I am tired and it is between 4 and 7 in the evening. That can be a harsh time for me. I am so hopeful that you are back on track, feeling better, and reaching out. We all need community and feeling understood and cared for. Drinking alcohol for all of us is isolating, not social at all. Are you going back to AA meetings? I hear that they are welcoming, like MWO.

DTD, looked up that quiche recipe, delicious!! You are doing great, so glad to have you back on the thread.

Rusty, stinks that your lunch was cancelled, everything is so iffy when the weather is like this. We were predicted to get another 12-18 inches of snow, really cold temps, so I do not know if I will venture to work if it is that dangerous. However, it seems at this early time that the weather people have once again exaggerated snow amounts. I did clean the middle room, but have not yet moved the elliptical, will ask my husband to help me.

Pap, I agree with you the weather people are over the top. The only solution is to not watch the weather. You have such a great attitude, you are like a breath of fresh air to the rehab people I bet. My good friend who had stents put in is not doing as well, Surprise, she is still smoking. I guess it is the same as drinking and continuing to feel unwell. Honesty, and willingness to make change is the only way to get better. Your last post cracked me up and inspired me as it seemed like you were an explorer on a mission to a new country. Health, exercise, eating in a new way. I loved the fact that you have enjoyed being at home with your doggies. I feel the same about my kitties in the winter, we cuddle and keep each other warm. Animals are the best!!!

Lav, I had a Mexican food theme last night myself, and it was delicious. Just trying to get through the day with good food, warmth and gratitude. Thanks for the great websites.

Jolie, the baby shower sounds as if it will be so fun. I am excited for you. I miss LBH, Chill, and others from the past too. Glad you came back.

    Have a great Sunday.

Gentle January ~ AF Week 1

Hello friends, and my goodness what a lot of good reading here! I must say I feel a bit overwhelmed by it because I would like to respond to each person but time will not allow it for me. Weekends are always super busy at the moment because the kids are not at school or in day care so it is go, go, go from the early hours. And yesterday the 2 year old decided not to take a nap. Oh my. Tomorrow they are back to school, etc. so I'll have more time to myself. And my son gets finished with treatment this week, so the child care load will be reduced significantly. Whew! He is doing really well, too.

Altho I don't have time for a long post I do want to say Star, that I am very glad your son is improving! Is his sight back to normal?

Rusty, yes the HTP is helping. I do not like the brand I got tho because they added valerian to it. Tell me again what brand you use?

Cyn, Papmom, Lav (thanks for the great links), Jolie, DTD (thanks for the great recipe link), DD, Sunni, Satz, and lurkers, have a wonderful AF Sunday. I'll be watching some footbal (go Bengals!) and making home-made bean soup and corn bread. What will you be doing?
      Dill

Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

Gentle January ~ AF Week 1

        Good Morning, Friends,

I'm still scouring away here...just have to stoke the fireplace with wood, and wash the floors. It's good exercise, and well, there's nothing wrong with a clean house, right? The woman who is coming is someone I've distanced myself from, as I've mentioned in earlier posts. She's been sober a long time, but she has such a strong yet disconnected personality and it's very frustrating to have in-depth conversations with her because she misses the point on any given subject. Both her parents were raving alcoholics and smokers, and of her six siblings, all of her 3 sisters and her brother are alcoholics as well, and I just wonder if maybe her personality is the result of fetal alcohol syndrome. She'll be 60 in August, and despite all her issues, she is built like a professional powerlifter and lives an extremely healthy lifestyle. We exchange Christmas gifts every year, and while I had planned to tell her that I didn't buy her a gift this year, she emailed me and said she had a gift for me, and now, well, she's coming over. She won't stay long though, and then it will be time for the Packer game. Let's see if those 49ers can handle the frigid Green Bay weather. I think NOT.

Dill-I hope the Bengals win today. The brand of HTP I use is from Pure Encapsulations. My doctor sells it but I got it online from PureFormulas. Free shipping.

Dream! Thank you for the recipe! Sounds delish!!! Very different from what I'm used to here in Wisconsin, America's Dairyland, aka, the Land of Cheese....and hey, I'm a risk-taker so I am going for it!:H

Lav-thank you for the low-sodium links. Your soup is next on the list. I sent you a text...I decided not to post my table. It was hard to get a good angle on it, but I'll send it privately to people if they want to see it. :H

Dill-isn't your daughter coming into town today? I hope you have a wonderful Christmas this week since you haven't had a chance to celebrate yet:l

DD-You are on Day 9!:goodjob: So glad you are with us

Pap-when you reach your goal weight, and look the way you want to....you should post before and after pictures like MWO member Doggygirl did when she lost 50 lbs. You are just digging this healthy lifestyle, and you've been a good influence on me, too, and I really appreciate it.

Big hellos to Cyn, Jolie, Sunni-GG, Satz, and visitors!

Yikes, I've been sitting here for 45 minutes. How did that happen? I still have to fit in a workout. Ok, I'm off. I'll be back this afternoon. I hope everyone has a lovely AF Sunday.

          Good morning friends,

Cold & some icy rain falling out there - I'm staying in :H
I will not risk falling & breaking something, no way!

          Greetings DD & DTD

Star, you must live in the serious snow-belt area!
Too much of a good thing, don't you think? Stay safe

Dill, it is really hard when the two year olds decide to skip their naps. I love them to death but they are totally exhausting. Great that your son will be back on what my son calls 'Daddy-Duty' this week!

Rusty, your friend sounds like she comes with a lot of baggage, that's a shame. There are definite physical signs of FAS as well as central nervous system damage, behavioral & intellectual problems. I hope your visit goes well & she takes all of her baggage along with her

Well, I actually watched the Philadelphia Eagles dramatically lose the game last night by two points to the NO Saints. YB still lives with no internet or TV in his cave so he sat here to watch the game :H

Greetings to papmom, cyn, Jolie, Sunni & everyone!
Have a safe AF Sunday everyone!

            Happy Sunday all -

I truly love this time to connect and hear the voices from all over the globe. Good luck all on your various challenges today - so glad to hear that your sons are both healing and doing better, Dill and Star! Be careful of the weather Star. Good luck with your lunch, Rusty - you are a good friend always. I am reading a book about brain plasticity - lots of interesting info that explains the strange behavior of people. Lav and Dream, thanks for the recipes!

Congrats on your 9 days, (10 now?) DDiamond - wonderful, keep at it! And congrats on your October date, Dream!

Today for the first time in a long while I am starting to feel it in my cells, to remember what it means to dwell in and move to the light. Yay!

              Morning, LADIES!

Gosh, you're a chatty bunch.. lots of reading back!
PMom... I laughed out loud when I tried to join your vision of Lav crawling around the yard for corn :H VERY happy to hear that you have some competent lads around you to help out. You must love shopping... I got dizzy just reading of your afternoon :H

Dill & Lav... I so relate to the agony of un-napped 2 year olds (or even 3 year olds, for that matter). I seriously don't know how many women manage having kids in their 40s... little people are exhausting!!! Glad you'll get some time to breathe, Dill!

Star, so glad your son is on the mend... hoping that will continue. I agree with you; being mindful and aware is so important. It's our thinking patterns we need to learn to recognize and change when warranted. Right now, I'm feeling a bit like walking on egg shells.. as I'm examining and turning over every thought/feeling/decision. But, I've caught myself several times... with unrealistic expectations, over-emotional reactions, etc. It's a learning process!

              DD, Congrats on 9/10 days!

Hello and Happy Day to DTD, Cyn, and the lovely CRusty! Must be off. I know it's Sunday, but I'm working regardless.
Okay, WHO put a stop payment on my reality check?

Gentle January ~ AF Week 1

                Hello to all!

The shower was a huge success! So many cute things I probably said "awww" a hundred-thousand times :H Loved the feeling of being in control and not letting alcohol interfere with such a huge event. Now it's on to baby watch!!!

Pap - had to laugh at your hair cut story - hope your new do isn't "lopsided".

Sorry you are working today Sunni - I'm going back tomorrow after being off since December the 19th! Going to be tough getting back to the grind but I'll mange - have a lot to look forward to in the upcoming months!

Pap - Can't believe YB doesn't have internet or TV! I was routing for the Eagles last night (I'm a true Ravens fan during the regular season). I really like the Eagles new quarterback - couldn't stand to watch them when Vick was playing - never got over him and his cruelty to animals. More snow on the way tomorrow night - heh??

Cyn - you sound very positive! Thanks for sharing your good attitude with the rest of us!

Rusty - good luck with your friend! I'll be routing for the packers as well! Love Aaron Rodgers.

To everyone else who checks in today, hope you are in a good place and if not, hope you will share your thoughts/feelings here as I know it has helped me immensely in the past!

                Have a great day everyone!

Geez - Lav I meant you and YB not having TV. (but then I'm sure you figured that out!)

Yep Jolie - I figured it out :H
He's living in his self-imposed prison - totally his choice. I never asked him to leave & I'm not begging him to come back either. He can watch TV over here provided he fixes a few things while he's here :H
Glad to hear the baby shower went well! They are so much more fun that bridal showers, I think
When is the due date? Did you tell us??
This weather is freaking me out a little, throwing me off schedule. Starting to think about Spring

Gentle January ~ AF Week 1

                      Morning friends

We had some lovely rain yesterday (not sure how much, though) and today is again overcast. The weather site I use has predicted showers.

Star, we certainly are chatty enough to compensate for your mute males!

Dill, wonderful news about your son! Being both gran and stand-in parent must be difficult.

Rusty, the quiche is a risk worth taking. It makes quite a substantial quiche, be warned.

Cyn, lovely image of dwelling and moving in the light!

Sunni, with two big beasts I guess there's no taking a day off, is there? And you can't even send them off to play outside at the moment.

Jolie, like you, I really enjoy doing things AF now. When is the baby due?

Lav, trading a bit of TV time for YB's labour sounds like a good win-win situation. What has happened to the other imposter in the nest- really can't remember if/what you told us.

Slow day work wise, but the kitchen could do with a good decluttering. So, will have to tidy up the pantry first so that I can move some kitchen stuff to pantry - should keep me busy. I'm a messy person, but I've found that if a flat surface is (relatively) neat and tidy, I don't plonk down things that don't belong there (for a while, anyway). So: that's my mission for today. Better get started before my enthusiasm disappears into a black hole.

                      Have a lovely AF Monday!
14 October 2013 was the first day of the best days of my life!

Gentle January ~ AF Week 1

                        Happy Monday all -

Lav, this switching between balmy and the deep freeze really has me reeling. I'm just hoping that it's not affecting bear hibernation...just yesterday I bought a water heater to give the birds fresh water, and suet to give them energy to sustain the cold. Then this morning it's 49 degrees and 2 feet of snow is melted! Since we've already had a couple of bear visitations, I'm crossing fingers that they'll stay asleep. But it sounds like it's back to the cold temps again - I just wish there was still snow on the ground, the damp leaves are nothing great to look at.

I finally was able to exercise the dogs yesterday with the warmer-ish temps before the rain came. It was a gloriously sunny day, and we walked in the woods down snow paths made passable by a few earlier hiking humans and dogs. And I saw that some people had x-country ski-ed! Now I know where to go, if it is ever snowy and not too cold. It's great walking here in the winter - no worries about ticks!

Best of luck getting back in the work groove, Jolie. So glad the shower went well. Sunni - thanks for the reminder about the thoughts coming first, nicely put. Good luck all - I've a big work day, and I'm hoping I can cross some old burdens off the list (finally!)
