Gentle January ~ AF Week 2

    Morning friends

Sun's back out again, blue skies with a bit of cloud - lovely day here. I really hope that your extremely cold and bad weather improves soon.

Pap, my granny made beautiful tapestries for all the children, grandchildren and even some of the greatgrands. One of mine hangs in my bedroom, and is such a wonderful reminder of an amazing lady. Good to hear that you're doing well healthwise - keep it - and that lovely positive spirit of yours - up.

Dill, enjoy the visit - you can talk to us later.

Lav, I loved Doc Martin - and his organic farmer aunt. Hope the other nestlings are fine - the one on here is certainly busy after Xmas and NY!

Star, plenty to do here, if you feel like a visit... As Jolie remarked, NY seems to bring out cleaning fever. Didn't get to the kitchen cupboards yesterday, so that's the biggie on my list today. Would love to do some work in the garden, but the soil is just too wet to work.

Right, I can here the kitchen's siren call - let me go an answer it.

    Have a lovely Wednesday, everybody!
14 October 2013 was the first day of the best days of my life!

Gentle January ~ AF Week 2

      Good morning frosty friends!

This frigid weather is getting a bit tiresome but I hear some warmer weather is on the way - yay!
So far my chooks have managed quite well, I'm proud of them

Dill, I hope you continue to enjoy your daughter's visit. I know how exciting it is having all 3 grandkids in the house - oh boy!!

DTD, enjoy your cleaning & organizing. That's something I need to pay more attention to myself!

papmom, staying warm in this frozen tundra is tough work, don't you think?
I have to double think before I agree to everything the vet offers for my dogs. I can only stretch a dollar so far

Greetings to Star, cyn, Rusty, Jolie & everyone!
Sending wishes for a wonderful AF Hump day for all!

      Lav

Gentle January ~ AF Week 2

        Good Wednesday to all -
Dream - I love hearing about your day in progress when I wake up! Good luck with those kitchen cabinets. Lav - so glad the chickens are surviving - they must be some tough birds! I haven't checked the weather yet this morning, but it was 1 below when I went to bed last night. I'm glad to hear that you can kick back a bit - you still seem like you put in nurse's hours, at least for your family! Have you looked at Hulu? I don't watch much on the tube, but my SD, who loves BBC and PBS, says there is more of that on Hulu. It's all greek to me! Dill - enjoy your visit - we'll be here waiting for you. Star, are you surviving the cold and snow?

I just had a reality-check: the propane guy came to fill up our tanks - I felt so sorry for him, what a painful job in the winter - trudging through snow and then standing there while the tanks fill. I wish I had made a pot of coffee - I'd have given it to him.

Well, I'm knocking down my To Do list - got some major things in process yesterday, now will try to FINISH some things - always my nemesis. Hoping to paint a wall in the downstairs tonight after business is done...

Hope all have a great AF day -
        to the light

Gentle January ~ AF Week 2

          Good morning...

Will leave for work around noon today, it is still scary cold out here. I stayed home yesterday and it was warm but lonely and boring. I am looking forward to getting out of the house and talking to people.

Lav, glad the chooks are doing well. This weather is rough on animals.

Dill, have a wonderful time with family.

Pap, know you have loved the time you have spent with your doggies. We used to have a greyhound whose teeth had to be cleaned, it was expensive, but at the time, she was young enough where it had to be done. Towards the last years of her life, it was to traumatic, being put out, so we let it go. I love my pets so much too. Sounds like you are continuing to do well, and happy to hear it.

Cyntree, you sound well, things will get done, no busy schedule right now. One good thing about winter is that lots of time is spent inside, so good time for painting and other home projects.

DTD, jealous of the milder weather you are having, enjoy.

To all, have a good, positive day.

Star-hope you got to work OK! Its still in the teens here, colder with wind chill but nothing like you are experiencing!!

Lav-glad the hens are OK. Amazing how they handle the cold! How are the pups doing with the chill? I'm sure Piggy Swissy loves it!!

DTD-ahhhh, your description of your environment warms me right up!! I'm getting so tired of the extremes here but too chicken to think of moving south!

Cyn-so glad your power has stayed on and your propane tanks are filled! Hope it stays that way. Fingers crossed for a warm up soon!!

Saw my PCP today and got permission to go back to both jobs. He wanted me to go back part time to the main one but I seriously don't have any sick time left. He told me I can't lift anything more than 15 lbs on the demo job so that might be a problem.
When i got home I made turkey chili and low sodium/ healthy sausage patties. Those actually came out like hockey pucks but they'll do. I froze half the batch uncooked so will decrease the time in the pan for them. I also didn't like the seasoning too much.
It was cardiac rehab day with an hour of education. I took notes and boy did I learn alot!! I should compile them and post them in my blog and here and on FB. Look for it this weekend!
I can't wait until I'm past the baby steps of rehab and can get some real workouts in. My goal is to run 3 miles with an agility friend up in Bar Harbor in October. I'm hoping to take a week's vacation up there, do a lot of hiking with the pups and friends and of course get a whole weekend of smokin' fast agility in.
Decided not to go to the knitting meetup. Its at a Panera Bread and everyone is expected to buy something-most order dinner. I don't have that kind of denaro so I opted out. Oh well.
Going to try to have lights our by 11 so I can get up at 6. So far haven't been successful.

            Good nite gentle friends!! :l

              Morning friends!

Our lovely summer weather is back - hope yours improve soon.

Pap, as I said yesterday - so glad to hear that you keep improving!

Star, enjoy your "escape from prison"!

Cyn, had to laugh at your having to finish projects - I am the queen of half-finished works in progress. Painting - walls, not great works of art:H - is a lovely way to relax for me. I can see my progress, and there's no way of hiding a half-painted wall at the bottom of a dark cupboard. What colour are you painting the wall?

A few more things to do in the kitchen, and then the garden late afternoon - I see a lot of weeding in my near future!

Have a lovely AF day, everybody!

Gentle January ~ AF Week 2

Wow, more snow here and it is -5, a warm up. This weather is just too much...actually it is better in comparison to Monday and Tuesday. I went to work yesterday, it was a normal day, so that is good. I will dress warmly again today, I need coffee now.

Pap, you have so much energy, doing a great job with new recipes. Did you get your house in the condition you wanted it to be in? I am relieved to have some stuff cleaned out, overall less stuff in my house. I am looking forward to hearing what you learned in cardiac rehab. My friend, as I mentioned, is still smoking, I think she is making a mistake. Keeping my mouth shut, no one wants their friend to tell them what to do. This sounds intense but I guess at some point there is a choice to live or not. Kind of like being AF.

Lav, hey, I love my TV when I have time. Came home last night and watched a few episodes of the Big Bang Theory, laughed and relaxed.

DTD, love hearing about weather that is not cold...there is hope.

Cyn, hello to you, you sound relieved to be at home, taking care of business. Without being pressured.

Loved the 13 Women for Sobriety affirmations that were in another thread. Thought I would copy and paste them, they give a lot of food for thought. Have a lovely day.

Here is the WFS program. I was struck by how much the focus differs from the AA steps.

                WFS “New Life” Acceptance Program
I have a life-threatening problem that once had me.
I now take charge of my life and my disease. I accept the responsibility.
                Negative thoughts destroy only myself.
My first conscious sober act must be to remove negativity from my life.
Happiness is a habit I will develop.
Happiness is created, not waited for.
Problems bother me only to the degree I permit them to.
I now better understand my problems and do not permit problems to overwhelm me.
                I am what I think.
I am a capable, competent, caring, compassionate woman.
Life can be ordinary or it can be great.
Greatness is mine by a conscious effort.
Love can change the course of my world.
                Caring becomes all important.
The fundamental object of life is emotional and spiritual growth.
Daily I put my life into a proper order, knowing which are the priorities.
                The past is gone forever.
No longer will I be victimized by the past. I am a new person.
                All love given returns.
I will learn to know that others love me.
                Enthusiasm is my daily exercise.
I treasure all moments of my new life.
I am a competent woman and have much to give life.
This is what I am and I shall know it always.
I am responsible for myself and for my actions.
I am in charge of my mind, my thoughts, and my life.
To make the Program effective for you, arise each morning fifteen minutes earlier than usual and go over the Thirteen Affirmations. Then begin to think about each one by itself. Take one Statement and use it consciously all day. At the end of the day review the use of it and what effects it had that day for you and your actions.

Gentle January ~ AF Week 2

                  Good morning friends,

Sunny, chilly but no snow - yay.

Star, I looked for a WFS group around here years ago but there wasn't one. The best I could do was follow their ideology, stay connected here with my friends & hope for the best. I am grateful every day that it all worked out

papmom, it might take some creativity on your part but I'm sure you will figure out your work future. Getting yourself healed & building up your stamina is #1 priority today Glad you are liking your rehab experience.

DTD, if you could see the piles of paper in my workshop area you would know that I am also the queen of unfinished projects :H Finding my desk under all that can be a real chore :H

Well, oddly enough it looks like I am traveling to the PA Farm Show tomorrow with my daughter & granddaughter & YB! It was his idea to go so we will surely make him pay the way :H
Ms Lily will love seeing all the animals & it's nice to see what the farmers all across the state are doing. I haven't been there for quite a few years, it's always an experience.

Work for me then I'm going to try to squeeze in a Curves visit since I won't be going tomorrow.
I made a good vegan dish yesterday - Thai vegetable stew from the Forks Over Knives Cookbook. Very tasty served over some Jasmine rice.

Hello to everyone & I hope we all have a great AF Thursday!

Gentle January ~ AF Week 2

                    Happy Thursday!

Star - please stay safe and warm, what terrible weather you're enduring. Thank you for posting the WFS affirmations - what a positive, responsible approach - love it, and will use the affs.

Lav - a Farm Show in January? That's a new one - will you see lots of gardening ideas? I'd love to walk into a conservatory right now and smell that earthy, humid, plant-y fragrance.

Good luck PMom - great goals you are setting, and isn't it wonderful to learn new things about health and about yourself?

Dream - we are all living vicariously through your summer descriptions - thank you.

I did it! I primed the nasty-olive-green 1965 bead-board wall, but what a task. Between sanding it and the priming, it took much longer than anticipated. Fortunately it's a wall in the Family Room, where the TV resides, so I finally figured out how to use the Apple TV (I'm not a power-TV user) and found 2 documentaries to have playing while I painted. Now you can ask me anything about King George the 6th (King's Speech) or Eleanor Roosevelt; I'm fully informed. I'll try to post pics of the wall-in-progress...

Wishing all a warm, happy day --

Evening Besties (a little reference from Big Bang Theory)!

Star-thanks for bringing up WFS. I had actually joined their website and community but never really did anything with it. You guys are really all I need! But they do have a different approach than AA which was kind of nice.

Cyn-wow, what a huge painting job you undertook! I still can't get up the motivation to do anything with the 2 bedrooms even tho I have grand plans!!

Lav-have a great time tomorrow at the Farm Show! It actually sounds like fun!!

I had a nice day today. Lazed around in the morning and this afternoon went to visit my former co-workers. Spent a great 3 hours chatting and catching up.

I also created a new FB page that will focus on heart healthy recipes. Here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Post-Heart-Attack-Healthy-Eating/235292853317350. Hope you like it!!

That's about it. The rest of the weekend will be spent cleaning and organizing for my return to work :upset:

                          Morning friends

Had an unusually vivid dream of something earth-shatteringly important to tell you, but really can't remember what. Hope it wasn?t the winning Lotto numbers

Enjoy the show Lav - with YB in tow it could be fun!

Thanks for the link to your FB page, Pap.

Cyn, I may have mentioned it here before: I put a CD on, work until it's finished playing, take a break, then put another CD on, rinse and repeat. Not sure I'd be able to do any kind of job with a movie playing, though - lazy me would plonk herself down and watch the whole thing.

Bundle up Star and everybody else when venturing out.

We had some rain again last night, but the sun is out today. The stonefruit farmers don't seem to be too worried about this unseasonal rain, but the grape farmers - table and wine - could have big losses. The village is quite close to a big dam - it's currently 120% full - good news!

Have a lovely Friday, each and everybody!

                            Good morning all!

Sleet/freezing rain here this morning - seems like I just made it in to work before it really started coming down.

Lav - how was the farm show?

DTD - hope the dam doesn't break! 120% full? Really like your avatar by the way.

Cyn - good luck with the home improvements! Took me all day to strip down 25 year old wallpaper in my small bathroom a couple of months ago - wallpaper will never grace my walls again! :H

Pap - thanks for the link! Always looking for good information like that. Hope you are doing well - you sound upbeat and positive!

Star - I've never heard of WFS until now - thank you so much for posting this. Very thought provoking.

Okay - back to work for me - have a great Friday everyone!

Gentle January ~ AF Week 2

                              Good Friday, all -

More crazy weather due here too, Jolie. The snow/sleet combo hasn't started yet, but will soon, and then there is the rain/freezing rain thing that's supposed to happen at some point. I would gladly take 28 and sunny (with some short snows to make everything pretty again) for the rest of the winter, if I could put in my weather order...I'm not a fan of winter rains. Ah well!

I had a difficult day yesterday - woke up with a headache, which only increased all day long and I finally had to stop working. I don't think that I shared here that in November I fell down the basement steps and smacked my head (on the concrete). I didn't lose consciousness, and iced where I had hit, felt OK, and went on with the crazy schedule I was putting in. I was OK for a few days, then had a lot of physical pain all over (but then I was racing around NYC, hauling my computer and files up and down subway stairs, putting in 12 hour days) and I thought that was the reason. But I started working with an osteopath here in CT, and she 'read me the riot act' about having to take brain-rest time. That all happened over Thanksgiving, so I cancelled the holiday (basically) and took a few days to rest, and things improved. I worry about these headaches that don't improve with pain meds, but today I'm better, so I'm thinking that it had to do with this weather change.

Dream - I'm with Jolie - that dam sounds a little scary. Hope the rains subside until it goes down. What music do you listen to? I might listen to music, but there's an ultra-fancy system in that room for playing CDs, and I can't figure it out. (maybe I need to invest in a boom box!). I've chosen biographical documentaries on Apple TV, since I can just listen to them. Last night was Churchill and Alexander the Great (ugh, too much war - I think I'll play Hay House radio on my computer tonight!)

Wishing all a good day - be careful out there in the weather, friends! Happy AF Friday --

Had to do the right thing & cancel my plans for the day. I am not interested in driving nearly 100 miles on icy roads, oh well.
Since the girls spent the night here, we'll just hang out & have some fun. Really, I'm watching Dora the Explorer with Ms Lily right now :H

Cyn, as the queen of head injuries around here I really feel for you. Did anyone suggest a CT scan at least? I hope you feel better very soon, take good care of yourself :l

Star, I can't wait for the winter to give us all a break but especially you! Enough!!!

DTD, be happy with your rain - at least it's not turning everything into ice
Thanks btw for the sooper sized coffee you delivered for me in the Nest yesterday!!

Greetings to everyone, have a safe AF Friday!
