Thanks Turn :thanks:- I might just start calling myself a Non-Drinker too! Sometimes when I call myself (and usually only to myself and the MWO peeps) - an alcoholic I feel like I am on a quiz show of 'what's my disease'. That doesn't feel right somehow - its so all-defining and it does not embrace the positive freedom you describe.

wow, this is epic Today, I am proud to be a non-drinker. I absolutely refuse to label myself or any other former addict as an 'alcoholic.' As I told my friend LifeChange earlier, I consider those of us who have chosen abstinence over addiction as heroic. It makes a huge difference in how others view me and most importantly - how I view myself. I am far from a fragile, damaged, powerless, diseased person who can't have a drink and has to worry constantly that somehow a drink will get down my throat. I am someone who knows that alcohol is toxic and addictive and I now have the power to confidently choose not to poison myself ever again....no matter what.nosce te ipsum

Hey there Turn, our old friend
Coming up on 1000 days huh? GREAT!!!!
It's such a powerful feeling, don't look back
bear, you are never wasting our time or yours when posting here. I just hope that sooner or later you will just let go of the fight with AL - no one ever wins. Going AF is a GOOD THING & ultimately the kindest thing you can do for yourself.
I have just watched Daniel Amen's TED talk on You Tube again. I've seen it a few times, everyone should watch it & see what it takes to take care of your brain & yourself. 'Change Your Brain - Change Your Life'. Drinking AL is not acceptable, you brain doesn't like it, that's for sure
Det, I would advise absolutely anyone (kids or no kids) to keep Rx separate from vitamins & OTCs. Let's face it, we're all capable of waking up in the morning & grabbing a bottle of medicine before locating our reading glasses or something like that. Better safe than sorry - always!
Pauly, I don't approve of putting labels on people for any reason.
I think it's demeaning in some circumstances & a way exerting control over some
What's important is what you do todayAF since 03/26/09
NF since 05/19/09
Success comes one day at a time

Whew....that was a lot do good posts to read through! All good stuff.
Life has its ups and downs.....I chose to quell them with alcohol. Thus, I was left with the job of learning coping skills once al was off the table.
When I go to my recovery groups I am overwhelmed by the number of shitty ways people deal with life. The list is endless. Sometimes I am rather grateful....because it easier to quit al, hide from al if needed......you can't do that with food or OCD. Of course you usually don't make an ass of yourself with food or OCD.....but, what these people go through on a daily basis is eye opening.
I made such a mess of quitting al, when in the end the solution was simple.....don't drink the stuff! I have never, ever woke up in the morning and regretted not drinking the night before

Busy thread today, with great posts. Have read through and taken things that resonate out to put in my toolbox!
Strange day today in many ways - school lock down, dad's surgery (have a brief message to say all is well) and continues busy at work - enough to keep me out of trouble!
See you all tomorrow“The only courage you will ever need is the courage to live the life you want"
