Good morning...

Lav, I will let you know if there is booze at the baby shower. It is in the afternoon, like most baby showers, so who knows? I tried to go back to previous baby showers I have been to but cannot remember if there was alcohol, I hope not. It just doesn't make sense. It was so cold here yesterday, today too, and rain. Kind of a bummer as I wanted to take our guest with a little outside time, so will have to see. The weather people are so often wrong.

Dill, tornado's are scary. Even the thought of them. Glad you are OK. I liked your observation about drinkers. They are the only ones who care what others are drinking. I have been pressured in the past to drink, and find it incredibly rude. Who cares? What if someone was like that about food? Come on, have a hamburger, no really, why aren't you eating beef? Really? When you look back it is so sick. I want to continue to be free from that type of thinking, and AF. I just do not see any benefit for, me with booze.

I picked up my guest, no problems, that MapQuest App practically drives your car for you. I made a delicious dinner and it was so good to visit. Another day today of being together till we hit the road tomorrow and attend that shower. So, I am happy I woke up so early to check in. All good here.

Rain here today, more flood watches too. I actually have had the AC on low the past few days because it's been warm & just humid enough to be uncomfortable.

Dill, a tornado scare!
A small tornado blew thru our hometown years ago & left a real mess. It came so fast, no warning except a very strange light in the sky, it happened in the middle of the afternoon. Glad you had a miss on that one! The older houses don't hold up well to those destructive winds. Glad you enjoyed your friend time.

Star, all of the baby showers I have hosted have been AF. All of the baby showers that I have been invited to in the past few years have had AL. The people who hosted those showers are not big drinkers. I think they just didn't think!!!! I hope you have a great time at your daughter's shower.

I did enjoy my lunch yesterday with my old friends. I always bring them fresh eggs from my 'girls' which they really enjoy :H
I have lots & lots of work all of a sudden so I'm skipping my Curves trip today & focusing on what I need to do. I hope all this rain doesn't drown all the veggie seeds I've planted this week.

Hi everyone!

Star, I wanted to write and send best wishes before you head out on your journey. I agree with Lav, somehow your life questions will become clear - it's so good of you to be open to change. And yes, I agree - we are all 'soulfriends' here - what a great word. I feel the same - I've shared so many things here that no one else knows.

Dill - thanks for the gratitude story - wonderful, and of course a great reminder. I think I get that when I'm hiking - the tiniest flower, a micro-forest of moss, dappled sunlight, all of it is incredibly delightful to me, and makes me glad to be alive. The dreams you have sound very much like mine - they always include something not done, or not done correctly. I guess that's a pretty deep-seated fear for me!

Lav - what an amazing statement that you made about YB - (paraphrasing here) that you are refusing to get sucked into his crazy thinking and behaving. Hmmm, sounds remarkably like choosing an AF existence. I think we learn so much about life and boundaries from beginning our search for self with quitting substances...

I had a powerful dream this morning Again I was in some kind of hotel, trying to create a document for HB, copy it, whatever. Just as I was going through the lobby, I thought I saw some things that had belonged to my Mom. Then I turned around, and there she walking in the lobby! I thought in the dream that maybe it was just a vision of her, but I ran and hugged her, and found that she was really physically there (in the dream). Then I woke up. It was so real, I felt that I had just seen her, eerie.

I'll try to check in early tomorrow - it will be a busy day trying to get the house ready for our guest next week. I finally finished the downstairs painting and now have a punch-list for the Guest Bedroom and Bath, and hope to change the paint on the front door (right now a horrible blue that bothers me every time I come up the drive!).

Hello All!

Yes Cyn I can so relate to what you said about feeling gratitude when out in nature, looking at all the tiny wonders in the world. We have a place on our property that is down in a valley. For some reason I get a feeling of such peace when I sit in that particular spot, underneath a grand old sycamore tree. Mr. D loves the spot too and he decided to make us some chairs to sit in down there instead of our usual perching upon the log of a fallen tree. He made each of us an adirondak chair which we will keep down in the valiey. You sound like you have been getting a lot done on the homefront! You must be feeling good. I surely hope so. You still did not answer my question: what instrament(s) do you play?

Lav, I too had on the AC one day this week. I absolutely hate humidity! I guess we are so spoiled now. I remember growing up you just rolled with it. People didn't have AC for goodness sake! Sometimes I am embarrassed to be such a pansey! LOL!

Star, You are in the thick of it. I am thinking of you enjoying your weekend and all the excitement.

I hope we have some nice weather today. We need to spray our fruit trees and I want to put round up on the poke weed that seems to have overtaken my asparagus bed. I'm going to have to brush it on by hand to avoid killing the asparagus!

Hope it stays that way too for my DIL's graduation & party afterwards!
Grateful that my daughter offered to host the party - I need the rest :H

Dill, I can remember sitting up & crying at night when I was a kid - too hot & too humid to sleep. That weather simply does not agree with me & I blame it on my genetics. My ancestors came from more pleasant climes

Do you really use Roundup so near your food??
I ask YB to kill the poison ivy with it around here but I won't go near the stuff myself. As a matter of fact I just signed a petition last night to ban the stuff.
Tell the EPA and FDA: Immediately suspend Monsanto's Roundup herbicide. | CREDO Action

My younger brother isn't even speaking to me anymore over this issue.
He works for Monsanto & doesn't feel I have the right to make my own choices - screw him! He is a plant genetics scientist - one of those people screwing around with our food supply.

Cyn, I decided a long time ago that I have to protect myself, my quits & frankly my sanity. YB prefers to dwell on the dark side & I don't, I can't. When he shows up here spewing his negativity I simply tell him to stop, I'm not having it any longer. He has been getting better & knows I will raise a shield if necessary

Good morning friends,

It's just 37 degrees here this morning but at least the day will be dry. Yesterday was damp, cool and drizzly. I never did get outside except briefly to watch gdaughter on the swings.

No Lav, I am not worried about using the Roundup in my asparagus. We are done picking asparagus for the the season. We won't eat asparagus from the garden again until next spring. The ingredients in Roundup will be inert long before then. The carrier agent which is a surficant will also not affect the plants once it is in the soil, it is only harmful to aquatic life. Our asparagus bed is far from any water. The pokeweed is a terribly agressive weed and difficult to control. You have to pull up every bit of the root or it just comes right back. Even if I could get every bit of the roots, I would have had to tear up the roots of the asparagus in the process. The asparagus patch stands alone quite apart from the veggie garden. It is near some cone flower tho. But as I said, I was brushing it on by hand so as not to damage the asparagus or nearby plants.

Chilly here too this morning & not even hitting 70 today - strange!

Had a great time at the graduation party yesterday. We did a BBQ & it was quite cool out, enjoyed a fire in the fire pit.

Dill, I'm not going anywhere near the Roundup. I've been concerned about it for years. I read recently that it's been found in breast milk which means exposure to the stuff stays with us for long periods of time - be careful!

I have to spend some time in my shop today finishing up a job to ship out tomorrow. Looking forward to getting out of town for a few days with my girls. Looks like it's going to be a chilly visit to the beach

Finally checking in after a very long week.

Dill-When I had gardens, they were totally organic. We do have poke weed around here but doesn't seem to be too prolific. If I see it I cut it down as the berries are poisonous to the dogs and I guess the sap is too. We all have our decisions to make about these things and you sure sound like you've researched this stuff pretty well. To each her own right? Sad that asparagus season is over already!! And a tornado to close for comfort? My worst nightmare!

Star-how was the shower? Hope you had a fabulous time!! Will send good vibes about the job. Exciting but tiresome I'm sure. If its meant to be....

Cyn-glad you're feeling better and getting closer to being ready for the company.

Lav-happy to hear your business is keeping you busy and that YB seems to be coming around. The rain must be great for the new blueberry bushes!!

Had to work late on Friday and back in at 7am Saturday until 2. Today was demo day at an outside event. Great weather but really slow. Felt bad for the organizers as it was a fundraiser for their shelter. This week is graduation week so will be working late Tues and Wedn. Can't wait for the weekend!!

Pretty beat so need to log off. Just wanted to say hi.

Good morning...

Well, quite a weekend. The baby shower was perfect, many loving and kind friends and family, really creative decorations and food. Yes, there was a champagne punch, but it was not even emptied. One person was sneaking a beer before the shower started! She did not get drunk but is kind of overweight, and I am sure that is why. Anyway, it was a great shower. No games which was a relief, I hate those games, and the party was only two hours, a perfect amount of time.

Looks like we may be moving quicker, my husband's job went south, and we have to move quickly. I put out one resume and have to get moving. Thanks goodness it is not winter, so alot on my plate. It is crazy busy. So I need your prayers and positive thoughts sent out! Thanks.

Again, drinking would make this unbearable. Have to keep my head, move forward, think positive. Sometimes in my life, things like this happen because they were meant to be, a time of lots of changes. Has anyone else ever had periods of time with lots of changes? I would love some good stories.

Lav, I hate roundup or any chemicals, they scare me. I have heard you can spray stuff with soapy water, don't know if that applies to all things. Congrats to you DIL and the party sounded fun.

Dill, I have special places outside I love too. You sound like you are able to enjoy things more. How is your son doing? Let us know if you are comfortable.

Cyn, thanks for the sweet thoughts. Sounds like we both need to pace ourselves. Spring is the best with the flowers and all the green. I had a visitor from out west who said the green was like a visual blast compared to the desert.

Chilly around here once again but no rain, yay!
Woke up to an email from Quitnet reminding me that I am smoke free 5 years today - YAY!!!!!!
Never thought I'd get rid of that nasty habit, gratefull I did

Papmom, this sure is a busy time of the year for anyone working at a college.
Yesterday was commencement day at the college where YB works, he had to be there all day for that too. The blueberries are looking good so far!!!

Star, glad you enjoyed the baby shower! They are so much more fun than wedding showers, cuter gifts :H
Sounds like the universe is giving you a nudge - what timing, huh? I hope you both find employment without a lot of hassle. Just think of the possibilities

I need to get to Curves then back here to pack up for my mini vacation tomorrow. I'm not really expecting to get any real beach time in but the change of scenery will be nice for a few days. The hotel I booked has free wifi -woo hoo, so I will check in when I can!!

Lav - Happy 5th anniversary on your Quit!!!!! Wonderful. So glad that you are at least getting a change of scenery soon. Glad that the celebration went well ---

Dill - love the thought of you in the Adirondack chairs in the valley - so peaceful. I was a professional classical singer for many years, but also played viola for a time. No idea where the dreams are coming from. Good luck with the garden - my asparagus is just now coming up!

Pap - hang in there - almost done with the school year!

Star - wow, the universe really is giving you a nudge. Sending you calm, clear energy and lots of positivie thoughts. I like what Lav said - think of the possibilities.

That's a good motto for today for me: still pounding away at my punch list. VIP guest to arrive tomorrow, Must keep those 'possibilities' - of the house getting done and all looking good - present in my mind today.

Lav!! What did I miss? You're actually getting away for a few days? Where??? I'm so happy for you! Is it just you or are the little ones and your kids coming with?

Star-everything happens for a reason! You are definitely being given a nudge and now is the time to make the move. You are ready-you just have to believe in the Universe. So glad the shower went so well and that it was a pleasure to attend, not a chore.

Cyn-sounds like everything is in place for your VIP guest. Lots of hard work but it will be worth it. Make sure you take time for a short hike to recharge!!

Wish me luck for the rest of the week. 2 long nites and I'm not sure how I'm going to fit in healthy eating. The office usually gets fast food that gets inhaled right before the festivities. I'll bring snack bars and fruit (that I can put in pockets) but I know I'll be ravenous by 6 or 7 and will be stuck. Oiy. Friday 4pm can't come soon enough!!

I am taking my daughter & granddaughter to Bethany Beach, DE. Less than a 2 hr drive from here but the change of scenery will be nice. I booked a two night stay (a few months ago) because I couldn't imagine spending more than two nights in a hotel room with a feisty 3 yr old :H
Just hoping for dry weather, it is a bit chilly but that's OK. If worse comes to worse I hear there are great outlets in that area

Papmom, hope your week whizzes by for you. Try to avoid the crap food although I do understand the circumstances.

Not sure if I'll check in tomorrow morning but will check in sometime later in the day from the beach

Late check in here. I have been feeling a little blue today for some reason. The sun is shining now and that is lifting my spirits a little.

Star, yes the warm weather has come and it is so nice! I'm glad you had such a wonderful weekend celebrating the upcoming birth of your grandchild. Isn't it nice to have these happy family celebrations? I am sending you positive thoughts and prayers during this chaotic time.

Lav, I hope you are enjoying your Beach escape with the girls! That sounds like a really special thing for you all.

Cyn, I never put it together that you were a musician. Duh! I do wish I could hear you sing or play. I bet you have a lovely voice. I have always enjoyed singing. Mr. D and I used to harmonize together when we were younger. I don't know why we have let that go as we have aged. I guess life just got too busy for us at some point.
