Quick visit with my Dad yesterday was a huge success. He was alert and knew who I was. Glad I got down.

so the debate continues on cholestoral versus statins good or bad?its a subject that i wish there was a definitive answer on ,because there seem to be so many "experts"out there giving so much contradictory advice..I know when I was on them ,they really did me no good at all,ended up with aches and pains,moody tired weepy to name but a few ..yes they may have kept my chol down ..but again that is a matter of opinion as is the contribution of chol to heart disease..I have got to go back for my bloods and check up ..and I know my chol is going to be up..and yet dont drink ,dont smoke dont eat fatty foods ..so where do I go from there?
we shall see..tea and coffee on the go.

Mae everybody,Mick the joke about the guy in the bar is hilarious! hubs got me a programable coffe maker for mothers day,which is nice,however he didn't rinse it so the coffee tasted plasticky bleh,i did appreciate it though,toilet downstairs overflowed and of course i am the lucky one who finds it,nearly fall and hafta clean it up,meh,hope everyone has a good saturday

Mick, sorry to hear about the medical complications...sadly that is a common story. I'll pm you some links to peer reviewed research and you can draw your own conclusions as to your own best path for health.

got a huge load of brush and weeds in the truck so I'm off to the wood chipper now to dispose of them.
we are a bit behind in our schedule for selling the house which is stressful but I'm trying to remind myself and Dx not to panic. it's just a darn house, we have our happiness and health so this is a minor thing.

MAE - still here in the Aloha State. I am having a day off an going to on an art tour, maybe a nice lunch - by myself - but I love art. Lav and Mick - I tried to resist jumping in the cholesterol discussion - just to add that I am one of those with a healthy lifestyle - had a good diet all my life - but I come from a family of heart attacks, coronaries, kidney disease and much suffering from this.
For me the thing that undoubtedly changed my cholesterol levels was the menopause - its so obvious when we look at my medical records.
Oh well the positive thing about getting old is that no one notices me anymore :H- last night I took wander through a fancy hotel and just slipped into a cocktail party. Didn't stop for a G and T though! I wasn't dressed for the part either - just sort of had my invisible mask on.

More laughs. Pauly we must be on the same wave length. I messed up the coffee machine this morning. Forgot to put the water in. :H
Last night I used a coin laundry for the first time in my ancient life!!!!! :HYes folks - its the first time I have used one and I had to ask for help put all the coins in. I miss hanging clothes out on the clothes line!!
PPQP - it sounds bittersweet with your Dad but you are taking time with him and he knows that. Must be sad and special for you.
SL - hang on this weekend and avoid the firewater. I have been watching a bit of Anthony Bourdoin on CNN and its enough to put anyone off AL and meat. Kind of interesting in a voyeuristic way though.
Nice pool here SF - but I seem to have no patience and get bored easily at it. I can understand why you use your pool as an escape space from the family. At home thats what I do in the bedroom and the wee-wee room:H

I know statins have made my father feel a lot worse....as I have my bloods drawn next week - and as TT said, I have heard so many women state that their cholestrol has elevated post menopause, I know I will have this decision shortly (and it will be my choice, not my drs - hopefully with lots of good information!)

About the cholesterol thing....
My cholesterol level & B/P were both normal until I turned 50, then everything just went to hell. I don't want to become a cardiac cripple anytime soon & I want to retain the ability to walk & do all the things I do. That won't be possible if I end up with clogged arteries like my Dad & brothers. This has been a 10 year ordeal now, I have tried everything else (diet, exercise, lifestyle changes) with little effect so I agreed to go on a low dose & see how it goes. Honestly, I had an Ultrasound of the carotids done 10 years ago & there was already a small area of blockage beginning
I've taken two does so far & my head hasn't fallen off yet so maybe I'll be OK on this trial :H

TT, I wouldn't mind spending a few days in Hawaii - just to say that I've been there too

Lav, will your insurance cover a followup CT heart scan? the imaging is so precise these days they should be able to give you a really accurate view of what's going on in there.
