My first 30 days!
Hi everyone. I've been posting regularly on the "Newbies" thread on Starting out since finding this site at the end of April. Its Day 29 for me today, the longest I've gone AF for a very long time!! My original goal was 30 days AF and then moderation but I know moderation would not happen. It's all or nothing with me! I just can't risk all the good work over the last month. So, what's next?? I'm so pleased I've got this far but I'm also a little worried that now I've reached my goal, I might cave in. Any tips for longterm abstinence? JaniceAF since 9 May 2012

My first 30 days!
I did the same thing, wamted to start with 30, but then I decided I wasnt so sure I could moderate, and I didnt want to blow all the progress I had made, so I just stayed abs, it feels good most of the time. The longer you go without, the easier it is.It's not that some people have willpower and some don't. It's that some people are ready to change and others are not.

My first 30 days!
Hi Janice. . . I have followed your progress and I can't believe you're at 30 days already! I wanted to join at the time you did, and tried, but apparentally didn't have it in me. Seems stupid considering I could be at your point had I persevered.
Thank you for providing encouragement and inspiration! I look forward to reading you posts in the future. :goodjob:

Wow! I remember seeing you in some of those earlier Newbies in need threads - It's wonderful that you've made it to 30! I haven't - Unfortunately I'm back on day three. But your example will provide inspiration.
As for what to do now - How about another 30?

My first 30 days!
hello I was thimking of getting the vitamins and supplements but there are so many packages being offfered by MWO. I think that I really need something more to deal with anxiety and cravings.
what is the best package to start with that is the least expensive? I don't think i can abstain on my own as I thought. I have been reading that the cravings for booze do have something to do with vitamin and amino deficits.
I really need to cut this thing downYou can't turn a pickle into a cucumber

My first 30 days!
Thank you everyone!! It really has been a life-changing month for me but I couldn't have done it without MWO and coming on here and "listening" to all you guys. You have all got me through this. But like I say, I know that even if I have just one drink that will be it, 30 days gone. I know that I will end up drinking more than ever. Here's to a new goal of another month!! Trixietrack - read the MWO book first for advice. You really do need the vitamins as alcohol strips our bodies of all nutrients. I didn't get mine from MWO cause I wanted to get started straight away and I'm in the UK, so I bought mine from a health store here. The book will advise you, but kudzo and l-glut will help with the cravings. I also take milk thistle, evening primrose caps, and vitamin c. The hypno cds will definitely help with the anxiety, they are so relaxing. Keep posting on here too! JaniceAF since 9 May 2012

Janice...huge congrads to you! I'm in the same boat kind of. My doc said go 90 days and then it's up to you to experiment if you want to....eeeep! it's day 83 and I'm getting a little aprehensive.
Trixie...the biggies are a high potency Vit-C, high potency B-complex, magnesium, calcium,
GABA, L-Glutamine and 5HTP. they are all super important. If you can only find some, then start taking them as you fill in the gaps. Avoid sugar and caffeine also. really will help....hang in there!nosce te ipsum

Determinator - interesting what you say about the coffee. I'm taking all these vits, haven't drank for 30 days, eat quite healthily yet I'm shattered. Wonder if it could be coffee? I'm terrible on a morning and have several cups to get me going. Also I'm definitely eating more sugar - desserts and chocolate, must be because of the lack of alcohol.AF since 9 May 2012

Hi Janice BIG CONGATULATIONS FOR 30 DAYS AF!!!!!!
You have done so amazingly well.
You have answered your own question in your own post: "My original goal was 30 days AF and then moderation but I know moderation would not happen..."
So maybe if you are still hoping for moderation, you have to give yourself some more time with abs....
BUT you are and have done so very well. Keep up the good positive feelings and keep thinking about what and why you are doing things.
Take it easy.

Janice: I've followed your progress during the month of May. I'm hoping to have what you have in the future (30 days at least). I know that I cannot drink a drop of alcohol, because I have no "off" switch. I would like to start a June newbies group. Good luck! MaryWisdom, Courage, Strength

My first 30 days!
Congratulations Janice! We're at the same amount of time AF, so I feel I've journeyed with you. I gave up caffeine 2 weeks into the program, had massive headaches for about two days and then felt great. I've since decided to permit on cup of black tea a day - if I skip, I don't get headaches. Coffee is a nice stimulant, but it is hard on the liver, at least black and green tea have some antioxidants! I'm facing that Mod or Not-mod. Liked what Det said about 90 days ... a booze-free summer would probably be a great, healthy thing to do, espeically if you live someplace hot. Take care!"There are two types of education... My first 30 days!
Congrats to you Janice....thanks for the pat on the back to me for my AF days on another thread. It is so nice to get them! I feel like that today....like I have been beaten up. I have some kind of virus that has lasted 2 weeks that seems to be going around here in ATL,coughing my head off, but I am wondering if this tired feeling may have something to do with the coffee and chocolate that I am not used to eating or drinking so much of. Someone talked about doing a Detox diet somewhere on here....does anyone know anything about that? I may start a new thread later....It may have something to do with all the cough medicine I have been taking too....just thought about that! hmmmm I better check whats in it....Nyquil...maybe I'm hooked on that now...oh brother....what next....Buffy
