Come Fly in July! ~ on AF wings

    Good morning friends!

I am sorry I have been MIA for a couple of days. I think I mentioned to you that I am trying to get a crochet baby blanket done for my niece. Well, I have been hitting it pretty hard because I have to have it done by Aug. 9, so I have been crocheting in every free moment! I am thinking of you all and will be ablle to have more time to post hopefully tomorrow, but today is busy, busy! Food pantry duty in the morning, grand children in the afternoon, so not much free time today! Thinking of you all and wishing us all a happy AF Tuesday!

      Good morning to all...

Dill, get that baby blanket finished! How sweet of you to work so hard on it. I know I received one many years ago and it was so appreciated and used. Have fun with the grandchildren and have a great day.

Lav, we do not have a dehumidifier and after cleaning the floor it smells OK. It was the cats I am sorry to say. Down to one kitty and that is better for any house or apartment. It is going to be really hot and humid today, but I'll be at work and then when I come home, packing and cleaning up. I decided that I can start packing as there is so much to do. I will keep everything in the spare room, well marked, and get ahead on it. Still having anxiety, but when I wake up in the middle of the night I am able, with effort, to relax through breathing exercises and progressive relaxation. Better than pills but more work. Still waiting to hear on all kinds of things so patience is the virtue of the day. What are you up to today? Any new recipes lately? I have been eating simply, but when I have processed food, my arthritis gets bad, swollen fingers and pain. Amazing. I cannot believe I did not get the connection a long time ago.

Hello to Cyn and Pap. Have a good Tuesday.

        Good morning friends,

Another overcast morning here! I'm sure the sun will make an appearance along with lots of heat & humidity - swell.

Dill, good luck getting your project completed
Enjoy the grandkids this afternoon too!

Star, sounds like you are getting all your ducks in a row - good for you
No new recipes so far this week. I've been off my feed a bit due to this viral thing that's going around :H Processed foods (especially things like lunch meat) attack my gut & cause me all kinds of grief too. I find the easiest thing to do is to roast up a chicken or turkey tenderloins every weekend so there's protein available to add to salads or make sandwiches thru out the week. Cook once - eat many times

I think I'm feeling better today, hope so anyway
Greetings to Papmom & Cyn. Have a great AF Tuesday everyone!

Good morning! Great to see everyone here!

Hi Pap, thanks for popping in. One reminder: remember, you have your health. If you don't have that, nothing else matters - seriously. You are so to be commended for sticking with your health plan, that is so great. So sorry about the work situation - what about putting energy out there for your ideal dog-food, dog-oriented ideal job. You may not see it now, but the right thing might really be out there.

Lav - so sorry about your virus. I swear that the one I had in early June that knocked me out had body pain as a component. It threatens to come back when I get too tired - my low back is agony, and I get a stiff, painful neck. Weird, huh? It all goes away if I take Oil of Oregano, thank heavens. I hope that you can take some time for yourself, and to heal.

Star - maybe a take time every so often to take a breather? Falling is no fun - remember when I catapulted down the stairs last fall, all because i was stressed and in a hurry. Slow and steady wins the race. Good job handling the anxiety with breathing - I admire you! I also am having real 'wake-up' moments regarding food and its effect on me. I absolutely can't do gluten anymore - I practically fall asleep at the dinner table, and then get irritable. Isn't that weird? HB is resisting it, but finally after successive sinus infections, he's going GF as well. I took him to the train this morning at 4 AM, but I made sure he had GF banana bread all packed up to go with him!

Dill - I understant the 'project' mentality. It's kind of fun to take just one thing and pour yourself into it, isn't it? Good luck on finishing up - that baby sure if a lucky baby!

HB is now out of the house, which means I can seriously 'make hay' now. I leave a week from tomorrow, plenty to do, as one big project I'm running completely changed from voice-over Powerpoint to me presenting, yikes.

And Pap, no progress on the jungle. Just a quick massive trim on hostas next to the house to discourage mice (and my dogs from tearing around trying to capture the mice, uuuugh). I actually was thinking about a machete myself. I'm trying to be OK with the fact that I can't really get at any of this for another 4 weeks. Grrr. But I do have lots of tomatoes coming in! Which will all ripen when I'm gone, but oh well!

Happy AF Monday to all -

Back again for a few minutes

Cyn, this virus is weird because I do have the usual respiratory funk but I also have some nasty joint pain (knees & feet actually) I'm only doing what I absolutely have to do this week, skipping Curves & hoping I am able to watch my grandsons Thursday as planned. Oh boy.
                Good luck with your project(s)!!!!

papmom, it can be nice at work when the boss is away, I remember
I hope your whole day was a good one!

Come Fly in July! ~ on AF wings

Hi All-Hoo boy, posting from my phone turns out wierd results huh? Anyway, rest of day went slow. I hate that. I find myself sneaking peaks of FB and email on my phone which is NOT a good example. I need out of this job soon!!
Quilting was good tho. Got a phone bag to hang from the jogging leash almost done. Just a few more minutes on the sewing machine and I'll be good to go. It's not perfect or good but it'll do (got her done!!)

Lav-I hope you don't have Lyme or some other tick borne disease with all that joint pain!! You'll get it checked out soon right?

Cyn-so much for you to do before you go away! Hang in there!!

Star-any answers today? It must be hard going through all this at once. I do highly recommend a good humidier to dry out the basement and really get rid of that musty odor (despite all the cleaning it will return with the humidity). They are fairly inexpensive at about $150 at Walmart or KMart. On the low humidity days I just open one of the windows but turn on the dehumidifier when it gets above 50%.

Dill-hope you had a great day!

OK, off to relax, eat a snack and feed the kids.

Come Fly in July! ~ on AF wings

                    Good morning all...

Lav, I hope that nasty virus gets out of your system soon. Good idea to take it easy. Junk food does me in as does sweet food like candy bars, cakes, etc. I stay away from lunch meat in the package, but our local grocery store has some good deli meat that I have from time to time. I feel OK on that. Just looking for something new to make. Hey, the corn on the cob is so good right now, I will stop at the store later and have that for dinner. It is different on my own, no fuss for dinner, just a little protein and veg. Really easy.

Dill, how is that quilt coming along? Glad you are busy and able to enjoy this part of the summer even more.

Cyn, you are so right, if you have your health anything is possible. I forgot about your next trip, you are so lucky to be able to travel so much. How fun. When you moved last time, did you take all your gardening tools, rakes, stuff like that? Moving to an apartment, I just don't know what to do with all that stuff. Plus, we have an older refrigerator I want to sell, not move. Lots to do and I have never been good at sellling things like this. Giving it away? Maybe, but not selling. Any suggestions are welcome.

Pap, you are jogging? Wow, I am so impressed. It has to be hard to act busy at work, I have not had to do that for a long time, I hope my new job keeps me busy. You are so good at projects, you could be a project manager. I know someone who earned a certification in that and found a job doing projects. Doesn't that sound interesting? Believe me, I know how hard it is to find a job that is a good fit, so just thinking out loud. The smell in the basement is gone but I will look into a dehumidifier if the mustiness comes back.

Off from work today so will set goals for decluttering and should find out a moving date so will be calling movers and pricing. Then the packing will begin. Woke up at 3:15 this morning, still having a hard time sleeping at times. I feel good though and hopeful, so there you go. Have a good day all.

Faith is what someone knows to be true, whether they believe it or not.

                      ~Flannery O'Connor

                      Good morning friends!

I am backing off on my crochet project. I realize I just won't be able to complete it on time for the shower without driving myself absolutely mad! So I'm just going to dial it back to a more sane pace and mail it when It's done, which will hopefully be before the baby arrives. I actually don't know the due date. I bought some other things to give at the shower so all is good and I feel like I can breathe!

Lav, I surely hope you are feeling better! :l That sounds like a miserable bug!

Star, when do you start your new job? I hope you have a comfortable space and time to get yourself and Mr. Star set up in an apartment and have everything moved, stored, donated, etc..or as Sooty would say, "done and dusted"! I've been listening to some Flannery O'Connor
short stories on my Ipod while I crochet. She was an amazing writer, IMO. Her stories are set in the south during the 1940's and it is a real snapshot in time and many of her stories are kind of harsh and dark. Have you read any? She explains her work this way:
"All my stories are about the action of grace on a character who is not very willing to support it, but most people think of these stories as hard, hopeless and brutal."

Cyn, I must have missed it when you said where you are going. Do you mind saying again where and for how long? It's too bad you're leaving when the tomatoes are coming on! Do you have a neighbor or friend that can come get them?

Papmom, the last year or two before I retired I found it nearly impossible not to jump on the internet and read while I was supposed to be typing reports, etc. It is so easy to do and it definitely hurts productivity. But it was a direct result of my becoming bored with my work. It's hard to stay engaged with work if it isn't something you really enjoy. But, hang in there, the paycheck comes in handy!

                      Happy AF Humpday everyone!

Come Fly in July! ~ on AF wings

                          Happy Hump Day!

Lav - I think you have the same virus as I did - miserable respiratory, and a lot of joint pain, yuk. Hope you start feeling better soon. Give yourself time to truly get over this - I think it keeps coming back.

Dill - I am off to the west for 3 weeks of working/writing for HB's festival. A pretty place, but I would much rather be at home. It puts tremendous pressure on the rest of the summer to accomplish all that I have to for the job, plus get the house and land ready to be gone for 3 weeks at the height of summer. What happened to enjoying your garden and sipping ice tea? Not for me these last 3 years. Sorry, I'm kind of cranky! So glad that you let yourself breathe with the crochet project - weird how much stress we're used to putting on ourselves!

Star - I second the de-humidifier idea. It really freshens up a space, and if a potential buyer even suspects a damp basement (for whatever reason) it can be a disincentive. RE: refrige - leave it for the buyers. They may want it. If they don't, then call the local electric company, many of them have recycling programs where they come and take it away and you get a tax credit. IMO trying to sell things when you move is just too much of a hassle. I didn't move my 12-ft ladder, and I regretted that, since I had to buy another when we landed in a house again. But other than that, you could probably replace what you need when you need it. Hope that helps!

Pap - great job on the mini-purse, sounds like you should market it!

Gotta run - I feel like I'm behind and it's only 8 AM. Oh well, today I'm going to catch up and be calmer, I just know it.

                          Best to everybody -

                            Hi Everyone,
Waiting for the big boomers to start. can't get the radar to work on my laptop so not sure how bad it's gonna be tonite. Might end up in the basement again!
Worked a little more on my phone case. Got the belt "clip" sewn on. Need to do a few more things then sew up the sides and bottom and done!!

Star-yes, I've started the C25K Pink program. I'm taking 3x as long to work up to a full 5K because I tend to get overuse injuries very easily. So far so good. I'm on the third week of week 1. I'll start week 2 next Monday-2 min jog/3 min walk. I've done that before with 5K101 but could never get past week 1.
Funny that you mention Project Management. I was basically hired to be a project manager with this most recent job. I've never managed a project by myself and I don't think my boss thinks I did a very good job. I enjoyed it tho and I think I did OK for my first time. I didn't know anything about the project either-never worked with that type of software before. I actually didn't understand that I would be the project Manager when I took the job-I thought there would be a team with someone else as manager but that I would be an integral part of the implementation. Guess I didn't ask a lot of questions I should have during the interview process. Now the project is over and I'm bored out of my wits. I'm actually looking forward to 2 weeks of filing in the basement!! I've thought about somehow getting into consulting but not sure how to start. Its not like I have years of experience implementing online course catalogs so my one year hardly makes me an expert. Anyway, it is food for thought. Nice that you were tuned into me!!

I agree with Cyn-leave the fridge for the new owners. Here in MA most appliances go with the house unless specified in the description. Except for washer and dryers.

Cyn-you have a right to be cranky!! I don't think you've slowed down for a second over the past 4 years!! I hope your neighbors dog sitters will be able to harvest your garden for you and not let all that goodness go to waste.

Lav-you poor thing! Is this the sickest you've been since I've known you? Hope you start feeling better real soon! Did you get bad storms today? Try to enjoy the opportunity to rest-you need it!!

Dill-so glad you felt that way too! I've been feeling so guilty and scared they will be able to trace my phone over the wireless. I'm on t he network as a guest like the students are so hopefully not. If I use my PC to hop on it's only for a minute to look at the weather or something like that. Never FB or email.

OK, going to go back to the phone case before we have a chance of losing power. Have a great nite all!!

Come Fly in July! ~ on AF wings

                              Good morning...

Cyn and Pap, the refrigerator I am talking about is an extra one in the garage from my previous house. I just store pop and juice in it. So, I would like to sell it. I am going to bite the bullet and learn Craig's list this weekend. If my things are in the garage I won't have to let anyone in my house. I will get a dehumidifier later today if I can swing it. I think it smells fine in the basement now since we cleaned the floor and have only one cat. The roof inspector came over and said we have repairs needed. Darn. I will facilitate that repair and want to get this deal done.

Our apartment was OK'd and I found movers and will get an estimate Tuesday. I am so ready to move and start my new job. This limbo living is stressful. Mid August will be the move date. I will have time to fix the house up and get move onto my new life.

Have you ever thought about recreating yourself and what it would look like? I mean besides being AF and healthy. I am trying to think of the changes I want to make and would love feedback. From anyone just reading this thread too.

Lav, I hope you feel better, I think trying to do more may help, but luckily you can rest if you start to feel sick again. The weather here is again perfect, 70s in the day, 50s at night. Hope you get some of this perfect summer weather.

Dill, good idea about the project. I do not think I want to read any stories right now that are dark and daunting. I am challenged right now to keep my anxiety down and my mood steady. A little light novella reading for me right now. Some of my books I just will not give away, so enjoying them all over again. But, at some future date I will surely explore Flannery O'Connor. Thanks for the recommendation. Hope you have the nice weather I am enjoying.

Work today but get off early and will continue cleaning and decluttering. I went to Goodwill again yesterday, giving away alot of stuff that I have not used in a long time. Old decorations, candles, clothing, DVDs, CDs, VCR movies, anything not used. So, the work continues. I will be so light when I move and only have the things I really use. It feels good and someday my kids will thank me.

                              Have a good day.

                                Good evening greetings, all -

Started early, and am just now catching my breath. Great to hear how most everyone is...Lav are you OK? I am unused to having you be absent!

Pap - we had unbelievable boomers here last night, and driving rain - I hope all was OK with you. I did the same thing -charged up the laptop and phone in case the power went out. The lights kept flickering, but power stayed on - a miracle! Hope your project turned out well!

Dill - so glad you are getting some reading in. I have a friend who is a real Flannery O'Connor fan, and she regularly tells me of some of the stories. Here's a factoid for you: O'Connor's family raised Peafowl. As in Peacock. Peahen, etc. I had no idea there was such a thing (beside a peacock), but sure enough, Flannery apparently mentions them in her writing. Have you come across it yet?

Star - you really are a star! Congrats on handling all of this by yourself. I also had to do that when we sold in the desert. The inspector found a problem with the electrical panel, which was too old to replace, and to get a new one required a new permit, but the water and the electric people wouldn't sign off on it. I was in the middle of moving a client professionally, and packing up our house, and trying to deal with this bureaucratic #@%$, all by myself because dear HB was away working (of course). So sorry you have to deal with all of this by yourself - be strong! BTW, re: fridge. I figured it was a second fridge. Try Craig's list, but don't expect a lot of activity. If you wouldn't mind getting a tax write-off instead of $$, you could donate it to Habitat for Humanity. They'd put it to good use for someone. I did that with my original fridge when we upgraded to sell the house.

Lav - where are you? I hope that you are feeling OK. Sending you healing thoughts ---

Have a good AF night, all
