Come Fly in July! ~ on AF wings

Hello to all on an AF Monday evening!

I've been busy today with various projects and then an unexpected childcare duty. Things are just settling down around here. But not for long! Tomorrow is gdaughter's 3rd birthday! We have a picnic at the park planned for her. The park has climbers and swings and a splash pad. I'm worried becaue it is supposed to be unseasonably cool tomorrow. I hope it doesn't put a damper on the water play! Fingers crossed for me please!

Lav, I'm glad your respiratory symptons have gone, but what a bummer about the swelling! Did you ever go to your doc about this? I am sure you would be told there is nothing they can do ecept for the self-care that you are already engaged in, but I am curious if they have been seeing others with the same symptoms. It's an odd set of symptoms and yet Cyn and Mr. Tree both had it too!

Star, my son and his wife will never get back together but for the sake of the children he does what he can to help them see their mother. It's a very difficult situation. She is active in her addiction and has alienated her family. She is homeless and just stays with whoever will put her up. No place she stays is safe or wholesome for children, so it is very hard to make it possible for the children to spend very much time with her. On top of that, no one feels confident anymore about leaving them in her care even if a safe place is found. On top of that, she is in complete denial about her situation and blames everyone and everything else for her plight. It's really sad and especially for the children. They really don't understand. How could they? I pray all the time over this situation but none of it is in my control. I just do what I can when I can.

    Have a good AF night.:h

Come Fly in July! ~ on AF wings

      Good morning...

Lav, sorry about the swelling. I have swelling in my left foot on the bottom, after getting really upset about something, so know it is a physical reaction to an emotional reaction. The mind body connection for me. I know swelling means inflammation, but why with a virus? I had to laugh at Dill's thoughts that a doctor would have no idea why your ankle would swell. I agree with her and know that when I have gone to the doctor for rashes, swelling, etc., they were not too helpful. Even with the allergies, I had to suggest allergy testing. Oh well, the main thing is you are feeling better day by day. Tell me about your yard sale before you moved. I want to have one, or a moving sale and sell an extra refrigerator, patio set with umbrella, riding lawn mower and lots of miscellaneous stuff. Did you advertise? I finally figured out how to get on Craig's list, but only got one hit on one item. Maybe I am jumping the gun as it has not even been 24hours. No offers yet.

Dill, wow, you do have alot to deal with. So sad about DIL not choosing to get into recovery. It just affects everyone. You are right, you can't control the situation at all. Just help the grandkids and be there for them as you already do. It might be chilly for water play but it happens. I was thinking about when I was a child and a few summers it got so cold we had to put on the heat. It is pretty cold here right now and I am sitting with a blanket around me. Brrrrrr.

I could not sleep past 3:30 a.m. due to family BS. Just what I don't need, but it happens. I am staying as positive as I can but feel exhausted. Lots to do today and work too.

Hello to Cyn and Pap. Have a great day to all.

        Morning all!

Star - you keep your eyes on the prize; that's right. all the rest is BS. You are really doing a superb job of handling all of this - keep it up! If you have the time and energy, I would recommend a sale. There is a site called garagesale.com or something like that, and in many cities that's how the dedicated 'salers' know about it. Do put an ad in the paper. Do put up signs at convenient cross-roads to you. Do put 'cash only' in the ad. Do get cash ahead of time at the bank. Do arrange for SA or Habitat to come pick up things right after the sale - you don't want to have to drag everything back inside. You can arrange for a Salvation Army pickup online, choosing the items from a drop-down list. They have a 'misc garage sale' option - tell them how many boxes. Good luck!

Dill - crossing fingers for a warm-ish day for your party. I'm so sorry about your DIL, wow the universe is really giving you an opportunity to practice detachment. So glad your son is investing in a great relationship with his kids.

Lav - sorry about the swelling! That's really strange that it is ongoing - you already are so dedicated to anti=inflammatory eating, I wonder what this is? Good luck. Glad to hear you have a big embroidery project.

Well, it's the last 24 hours here in the east for me. Always make me sad as well as a little panicky to be getting ready to be gone for 3 weeks. But it is what it is. At least (staying up to 12:30am) I got my work projects under control last night, so today is all about the house and the dogs and the laundry, etc.

Wishing all a great AF day!

Come Fly in July! ~ on AF wings

Good morning friends from a much chillier PA - 59 degrees at the moment

I have not gone to a doctor about this foot swelling for all the reasons you guys have already mentioned. It's my foot & I know I didn't injure it so I don't need xrays. I don't want any Rx meds, I am keeping myself fairly comfortable with Motrin & the elastic support. I really think this is an example of my immune system over-reacting to the viral load I had last week. This is aka Reactive Arthritis.
This whole thing is no big surprise to me since my Mom had a flare up of severe RA at this age & my daughter has had this same problem herself a few month ago. I will be just fine in time
Thanks for thinking of me Cyn, Star, Dill & Papmom.

Star, Cyn gave you great advice about the yard sale! That is exactly how we handled ours, we unloaded a ton of stuff that way!!!
Hope you can squeeze in a nap somewhere today.

Dill, sorry to hear about your DIL. Denial is tough to beat, we all know that from our own experiences. It's wonderful that the kids have you to rely on :l I hope the birthday party goes well too!!

cyn, wishing you a great trip! Travel safely & try not to worry about all of us :H

I'll be in my shop all day today with a large cup of coffee!!!
Have a great AF Tuesday everyone!

Whew! I'm exhausted, but it was a good day. Granddaughter had a wonderful party and enjoyed the splash park in spite of the cooler weather.

Greetings Star, Lav and Cyn, sorry this is short, but I'm sure you all understand. One worn out Nanna saying good night!

              Good morning...

Cyn, thank you for the excellent advice, I will surely do all you suggested. I put a few things on Craig's list but no luck so far. I am learning all about this as the days go on. I keep thinking about what you wrote about at least with a move it happens and is over. So true. Three weeks away from home is alot, I hope it will be a pleasant time for you.

Lav, I agree that to go to the doctor would probably not help, just time and patience along with motrin and wrap. What is reactive arthritis? I have never heard of it. I was thinking how really lousy you would feel if you were not into good nutrition, NF and AF. Hope you have a good day today. It is cooler here too and heavenly. What a nice July.

Dill, wonderful birthday party and wonderful Nanna. Rest today if you can and the beautiful weather continues.

I am going to start officially packing up my knicknacks and decor today. I have to get packing tape and will mark each box. Work later this afternoon. Just want to thank you for your support. I have certainly needed it and will continue to need suggestions, affirmations, comments and just being there. You guys are the best.

Good morning friends & Happy Hump day

57 cool degrees this morning - honestly hard to believe but I'm not complaining

Star, you are doing great, I am very happy for you!
Accepting these major changes with a little grace & gratitude help a lot

I have a gyn appointment this morning then back to work this afternoon. My current job is going well, no problems so far. Yes, I am grateful that my diet & lifestyle choices are not a factor in whatever is going on with me. Star, reactive arthritis is a result of your body's over reaction to a viral or bacterial infection. It may affect one joint or several & usually resolves on it's own after a few weeks. So, I am doing my best to keep the faith

Dill, glad to hear the party went well & I completely understand the post-part exhaustion :H
                  Take care of yourself today.

Cyn, wishing you a very safe & wonderful trip!

                  Greetings Papmom!

Hello Friends, another nice cool summer day here. I'm loving it! I am pleased also with the way my sewing room is coming along. I have a nice work table and my sewing machine cabinet moved in. It's so nice to get the space back!

Star, I like the name! Why not insert "AF" in the middle, too? I was looking at the Examin website and found a link to a week of guided Examins. Have you seen that? Anyway, I followed along with one and found it very helpful. It is absolutely a prayer that anyone could pray, not just Catholics or Christians. Anyone with a belief in a higher power could benefit, especially because it is so heavily weighted towards assuming an attitude of gratitude.

Lav, I never had heard of reactive arthritis before. Thanks for the mini seminar!

Cyn, enjoy your time out west. I hope you'll be able to check in while you're away, but we'll keep the light on for you either way!

Hello Papmom, I hope things are humming along for you. How's the training for the 5k coming along?

                    Happy Hump Day everyone!

                      Good morning...

Nothing new to report, my last work day today. I am taking a box to pack a few things. Maybe lunch with my fellow workers, I don't know.

Lav, thanks for explaining reactive arthritis to me. You are getting better? I think alot of things resolve on their own, given time, good nutrition and rest. Love this weather.

Dill, I will check out the examin site sometime today, thanks for sharing. Your sewing room sounds like a good place to create cool things. I always think of sewing as an art form. I have a friend who made quilts and all kinds of things, so artistic. I do like Absolutely AF August.

Let's see who gets up first tomorrow.

                        Good morning friends!

Still enjoying this cooler weather but it's not going to last much longer.
My foot is still stupidly swollen this morning which means it hurts to walk on. It's frustrating but I'll live.
I have to be on my feet all day in my shop & I just may end up watching my grandsons for a bit too. I went for my gyn appointment yesterday & told my NP about the situation with my virus & foot swelling & all she had to say was 'that's weird' :H

Star, I hope your last day is a good one

Dill, I haven't bothered to sit down & do any regular sewing for quite some time. I hope you enjoy your new sewing space

                        Greetings to Cyn & Papmom.
I hope we all have a fabulous AF Thursday!

Come Fly in July! ~ on AF wings

                          Hello All,

I listened to the Bubble hour podcast from Sunday. It was about "the gift of desperation". It was a very interesting topic. A few women shared their moments when they finally had had enough and knew they had to change. The feelings of desperation are viewed as a gift because they serve as a catalyst to recovery. The memory of those feelings serves as a tool to help maintain recovery. Here's a link if anyone's interested: The Bubble Hour

Lav, I don't sew a great deal, but I do enjoy it when I get a project going. For the past 3 years I have had my sewing cabinet in the kitchen so whenever I had a project I had to shift everything around. I am glad to have a designated project area now.

Star, Congrats on the last day at work! Change is here and now! The other thing about my sewing room is that I am going to let the grandchildren have a play and project area there too. I think they will enjoy the space as much as I! I hope your family upset is done and that you are into smooth sailing. At least for a little while!:h

Hello Dear Friends-so sorry I was gone this week. Back now for the last day of July. Where did the summer go??? Love the name for August. Let's do it!

Cyn-you are on your way to the festival and probably aren't plugged in but in case you are, safe travels and have a great 3 weeks!! You must have one heck of a dog sitter who will empty the "rain barrels" for you! Another thing to be grateful for!

Lav-I trust you on this RA thing and I hope it resolves soon. Are there any herbs that help with inflammation?

Star-today was your last day at work? Hope it went smoothly and that you walked out that door with relief and looking forward to the future. Good luck with your yard sale. They are a lot of work but can be very worth it. Cyn had great tips for you.

Dill-I too am sorry to hear about your DIL-last we heard she had checked into rehab and there was hope. Your GKs are so very lucky to have you close by and in their lives.

Went to dinner last Sunday at my sister's. they had been back from CA for about a week and we were treated to a most enjoyable slide show and recap of their 2 week trip. What a fabulous experience they had and so lucky to have been able to do it!!

I've been staying on track with my exercise this week. Worked out for almost 2 hours on Monday-got there late due to a tornado warning. did day 1 of Week 2 of the C25K program. Tuesday no exercise but finished my dad's valence for his LR sliders. Last nite I took DD for Day 2 Week 2 of the program. Tonite was 30 min of swimming. Tomorrow will be another gym day at least for strength training. If it's not too hot, I'll come home and take DD for day 3 week 2. If that doesn't work I'll do it at the gym.
It's been great weather this week (after the storms rolled through on Monday). Warm but not hot during the day and nice and cool at nite.

My boss is on vacation this week and next week but has been checking in. I had to deal with a few things and I think I did a good job. I'm not too bored but tomorrow I might be. One of the staff is out on vacation for two weeks as well, another was out sick Mon and Tues which left the grouchy old lady who should be retired and me. Tomorrow she is out, the other once won't be in until 10 so I will be on my own for 2 hours.
I got my evaluation back from my boss and was pleasantly surprised. It was better than I gave myself. She was tough on a few things-she doesn't mince words and can be harsh- but on others she was very complimentary. So that is over for another year (if i last that long).
Have to drive into Boston for a demo on Saturday (not my fav thing to do) but it should be fun. Haven't been to this store in well over a year. Was hoping to get a sail in with dad-he's put the boat on the market so time is of essence-but weather is iffy. I'm really going to miss sailing even tho I've only gone about once a year for the past 2 decades or so. Still the thought that its over is very sad.
Had a close call with DD last nite. I accidently gave him LM's meds (Enalipril and baby aspirin). As soon as I did it I panicked then realized I had to get him to vomit ASAP. Now, he probably would have been ok-he's twice the size of LM so probably could have handled this one time dose but I didn't want to risk it. Then I remembered that Poison Control had me soak cotton balls in hydrogen peroxide and feed them to LM when he got into something a number of years ago. It didn't work for him but i figured it was worth a try. I had a little HP left, coated the soaked cotton ball with a little canned food and down it went. Tried to get a second one down but he was on to me. Locked him in the bathroom and less than 5 minutes later, up came everything, even the meds which were wrapped in a Pill Pocket. Whew!!
So that is my excitement for the week (I hope). and my story.

Happy Friday everyone and I'll see you over on Absolutely AF August!!
