      TUESDAY AF 12 AUGUST

Quick check in - have my nose to grindstone, and all the back to school prep...need another vacation!
All staff meeting tomorrow, so another day without any work getting done
      Well done Pauly!
Well done everyone else - lots of good happenings, realizations and acknowledgments.
Det - did you get me a pastie??? I am ready for my supper - hopefully some Branston pickle on the side (my mouth is watering!!)

        TUESDAY AF 12 AUGUST

        Back again

Sam, very sorry about your friend's young daughter. What an unimaginable tragedy.
Did you see the pics of the floods in Baltimore? Yikes! Got a good bit of rain here but definitely not 6" worth.

Bear & Pauly, you are both youngsters in my book
        My daughter is 37.

PQ, I did get the MRI scheduled for next Tuesday. It was the first opening so I guess I just hobble around for another week as is. Glad you had the chat with your boss

Det & SL, I looked up Cornish pasties & think I can come up with a healthier gluten free, lard & red meat free version :H
I imagine they are quite tasty though.

        Have a good night all!
        AF since 03/26/09
        NF since 05/19/09
Success comes one day at a time

Lav, if you come up with a crust that works and is gluten-free please share. I'll stick with the traditional filling but with more garlic of course! maybe one with lamb and rosemary.... dang it, now I'm getting hungry again and it's bedtime.

A traditional cornish pastie usually has potato cubes in it. The filling is quite bland - hence the use of of a lot of fat and salt and only a little meat. The meat would be a slow cooking cheaper cut. In NZ swedes were added to the filling.
I have made vegetarian fillings for pasties but never gluten free. Thats not a cornish pastie but of course food evolves.

I don't cook pastry these days anyway (unless you count pizza bases)! Too much fat and flour and once you take this out - pastry its something else.

TT you're right - focusing outside of myself is what's needed - especially with the awful events in Iraq,Syria and Gaza - puts it into perspective.

PPQ - books help me a lot too - love reading and need some new novels/biogs.

Sam I need to remember that it isn't all about me.
