    Sweet September

    Good morning AF friends,

Sorry I didn't get on yesterday. It was a combination of being busy and not having internet access when I was not busy! We took a day trip to the hill country yesterday to visit Mr. D's bro and sister. It's out in the boonies tho and cell tower coverage is spotty. At one point I actually just turned off my phone because there was "no service" appearing in the upper left corner. It was like a trip back in time!:H

Lav, I do not intend to let this friend drift away. I will keep in touch with her and keep gently nudging! I'm glad you are able to be back at Curves and that your foot is getting better.

Star, Does your library participate in a digital downloads service? I don't think they all do, but our local library does and I will be able to download Gone Girl in e-book format on my iPad, I think. I'm going to try it this morning. I have used digital downloads for audio and epub books using my laptop, I've just not tried it with the more portable iPad. I'll let you know how it goes. Try googling digital downloads or try contacting your local library and asking them.

Have a great AF Thursday everyone!
    Dill

      Sweet September

      Good morning friends!

Sitting here thinking about the events of 9-11! Still makes my blood run cold especially in the light of the president's speech last night outlining the plan to disable the current terror threat.
I think I'm feeling a little more vulnerable than usual. Last week a State Trooper pulled in my driveway when he saw me outside with my daughter & granddaughter. He wanted to warn us about a violent home invasion that had happened the day before less than half a mile down the road. He went into great detail describing the two men involved & their ruthless behavior sticking a gun in the woman's face. She escaped without harm & the men made off with an ak-47 & a thousand rounds
I am aware that the international MS-13 gang has moved across the country from LA & has made appearances in DC & Maryland. They apparently have crossed the state line & are now doing their work in PA.
They targeted that home (somehow) because they wanted the assault rifle. I hate guns & have never allowed YB to keep a gun in our home. That's why he's always had a locker at work. I just don't understand why anyone would keep an assault rifle in their home - baffles me.
Sorry about the rant......these are the things that really get to me!

      Hello Star & Dill.
I download books from Amazon on my iPad right into the Kindle App
I honestly have not even had a library card in years & years :H It's because they usually don't have the type of books I read. I always swapped paperbacks with friends & relatives to keep up with current fiction but don't even bother with that anymore. I know, I'm weird :H

Greetings to Papmom & Cyn. Hope everyone is OK!

Have a safe AF Thursday everyone!

        Sweet September

Evening all! Has it really been over a week since I posted? Time is flying way too fast. It's getting dark at 7:15 now and I feel like everything is slipping away. Not looking forward to the winter that's for sure.

Star-I hope you and hubby just relax and get settled for now. I can't even imagine looking for another house so soon. Glad you are getting more comfy at work. Evening free are a good thing!

Dill-so sorry about your friend-It will be devastating if she doesn't get help soon. If any one can gently push her in the right direction its you so don't give up. I do hope that whatever is going on with your relative resolves soon and with good results.

Lav-how is your foot doing? Getting better? Good sign that you are back at Curves. Your recipes look interesting. That cashew cream is very tempting. Maybe when I'm on vacation in October I'll try making it. Is there anyway to make homemade gluten free bread?

Hi Cyn-It's been such nice weather here once that storm rolled through on Saturday. Have you been able to rest and relax this week?

Work is still wicked boring. I don't know how much more I can take. Thank god vacation in 2.5 weeks. My raise did come through-it's in tomorrow's paycheck. It's about 2K more but doesn't translate into a significant increase after taxes. Still, it's better than nothing.
On the upside, pups are doing much better. I'm thinking maybe a virus swept my house as all 3 got sick, one right after the other. I can start transitioning them to normal food this weekend and hopefully start walking/jogging with DD again next week.
On Monday I went to my first Meetup. It's in a very small Annie's Bookstop and it's a combo audiobook/craft meeting. I brought knitting I haven't picked up in over a year. There were only 4 of us, including the owner and her employee. It's very uncomfortable but I think I'll keep going. Hoping more people will show up next week.
On Wednesday I joined a group of ladies on their 5K walk/run around a local lake. It was fun and I finished without a problem!! Of course I walked most of it but still. Now I'm seriously looking at entering a formal 5K this fall instead of waiting for this spring.
Tonite was water bootcamp. Love it and 3 of the ladies from last nite were there so very cool.
Tomorrow I need to pick up some things on the way home and then pack up for a very busy work weekend.
My dad brought the boat over to the broker this week so it's official. No more sailing, ever. boo hoo. I had really hoped to get one more sail in this fall. But it's prime time for selling so he couldn't delay.
Well, that's about it for me. I'll be counting down the days until vacation.
        Have a great weekend all!

          Sweet September

          Good morning...

Pap, good to hear from you. Nice you have vacation to look forward to. My life has been so chaotic, no vaca for me this year at all. Sad about your Dad's boat, change is hard. My Dad has a boat too, but in Florida, so no rides for me. I am enjoying the cooler weather, went for a brisk walk with a fellow worker at lunch yesterday, and it was great. Winter, no I am not looking forward to that, especially with no garage. Yikes. You are really busy after work, I feel lazy, just want to come home, eat, read and veg out. Not good. Hopefully yoga for me Sat. morning.

Lav, I have a feeling you read alot on the internet, and that is good too. Sorry about the home invasion so close to your house. That is really scarey. I have always lived close to high crime areas and have just been lucky. It sounds like the home invaders knew the people had weapons, doesn't it? When my kids were little a serial killer murdered a little girl less than a mile from our house, it was horrible. Evil is always closer than we think. I kind of like living in an apartment building, I feel safer, isn't that weird? Lots of people around.

Dill, I am in with my new library, and have capability to download ebooks, the book I want is out. I can wait a little while longer. I am reading a thriller called The Winter People, and it is scarey, seriously. I have several other books too, you know me, the bookworm. What a lovely day trip you and hubby took, sounds fun. My husband and I are going to a place called Zoup for soup tonight, then to a new grocery store I found, Earth Fare, kind of like a whole foods. I bought coffee beans this week called Black Magic, and we loved the coffee. Want to find some other kinds too. I have to get on the internet and find a movie theater, we might go to a movie. We'll have to see what is up. Sunday, to my daughter's to see our grandson. Busy enough for me. I am not that social, and need time to recoup before Monday. Last weekend I was too busy and feel tired this week.

Hello to Cyn, take care all.

Good morning friends & happy Friday!

Drinking coffee & trying to pretend that I am motivated & that my smaller dog did not get me up twice during the night :H
I think that doggie virus has made it's way here Papmom!

Good to see you making such good progress Papmom
I think we are all focused on getting & staying as healthy as possible & that's a good thing! I'm sure your Dad will be missing his sailing days too but let's face it - it's hard work for someone his age. He deserves some relaxation time too.
Have fun this weekend, busy is good

Star, I love finding new stores especially because there are no stores around here at all :H
Whenever I see a Ten Thousand Villages store I go in & buy their fair trade coffee & it's the absolute best! I carry a punch card in my wallet & got a free bag on my last visit - yay!
Enjoy your grandson time this weekend!

I have new business coming in & that's always a good thing.
I am doing OK with my partial Curves workouts - not hurting my foot is top priority!
Sunday I'll be going to a Free Trade event in the town where my daughter lives. It's an interesting concept - you take something to give & take home what you want. I'll be taking some extra eggs & some home baked gluten free cookies. Can't wait to see what I'll be bringing home. The weather is supposed to be perfect so that's a big plus.

            Hello to Dill & Cyn!

Have a great AF Friday everyone!

              Sweet September

Hi All, quick check in. Just saw that our site will be moving on Monday. I'm a little nervous as to what that will mean. She said they are moving everything then will worry about updates later. Hope that means our posting history will be preserved!!
All ready for my big demo weekend. Car packed. Just have to make lunch, shower and dress.
Starting to transition boyz over to reg kibble tonite. fingers crossed.

Star-you'll get back into the swing of moving and regular exercise again-you still have some transition to go through. Good that you found a natural food store-that will help!! You're as busy as me this weekend!
When I changed jobs last year I had to wait until this april to take any real time off. It sucked but I got through it and now I'm looking forward to my second week off plus I've taken some days here and there.

Lav-very suspicious about the home invasion near you. They had to have known the weapons were in the house. Still very scary.
Hope your pups feel better soon. It was not pleasant but the Flagyl worked wonders. Glad I had the foresight to ask for a months supply ($10 at walmart) last time I was there. I treated the boyz myself this time and am taking it slow with transitioning back. I also haven't taken any of them for walks in a couple of weeks. I might do a short one tomorrow with DD. So glad you have new work!! Good to get unexpected extra $$$ isn't it?

OK, if I don't check in the rest of the weekend, I'll try to on Monday after the "big" move!

                Sweet September

                Good morning,

Lav, that home invasion near you is really frightening! I am not familiar with the MS-13 gang that you mentioned but it sounds very scary. They must have known that AK 47 was in that house and they broke in just to get it. Do you know the woman who was robbed? I'm glad your business is picking up. You'll probably be busier thru the holidays. That free trade event sounds interesting, too

Star, I did manage to figure out how to download an ebook onto my iPad, but it took me awhile. I had to open an account in two different apps to do it, but once I did that, poof! There it was! Now if I can just find time to read! I'm really much better off with audiobooks. Have fun with your grandson!

Papmom, thanks for mentioning the move. I didn't know! I hope it doesn't affect our ability to log on. I wonder if things will look different, too. Change is necessary but difficult! Sorry your dad's boat is up for sale. Why is he selling it? Is it just getting to be too much for him? I'm sorry your work is still boring for you. I know how hard that can be!

It's cool and gray here today. There is a Heritage Festival I might go to later if it doesn't rain! Have a wonderful AF Saturday everyone.

                  Good morning Dill & everyone

No sun, rain promised for today but at least it's cooler out

RJ's update mentioned that the site will be down 4-6 hours on Tuesday. I think we'll be fine but the newbies may panic a little. I'm looking forward to seeing the new forum layout.

Dill, here's a bit about that gang
MS-13 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
They actually terrorized 2 homes & home owners at the same time using two vehicles with stolen license plates. I just heard that investigators are making progress on this case, thank goodness.

Papmom, I honestly believe these off & on 'illnesses' with my dogs are directly related to their monthly dosing with Heartgard! I've spoken to the vet a few times about this but I've been ignored. I just didn't give it to them last winter & I'm going to do the same this winter. I'd throw up too if you made me swallow a pesticide! I hope your weekend demo goes well

Greetings Star & Cyn - hope you both have a fun weekend!

Let's all have a good AF weekend!

                    Good morning...

Lav, home invasions are the worst, I guess I would keep my cell phone by me at all times and hope I could call 911 if I heard something. Whew. I worked with people in gangs in the past and some of them are sociopaths. Period. Isn't the cooler weather great? I cleaned yesterday, made soup, then baked in the oven for dinner. It was wonderful. Last night burned a delicious candle and it smelled like autumn. Loved it.

Dill, I finished reading the Winter People, it was creepy and I felt unsettled after finishing it. I would not recommend it. Seriously, now I am reading something else, not so scary. I need to download Gone Girl, I want to see the movie in two weeks and have to have the book read first. I am thinking of upgrading my phone, because I can, and that will mean more figuring new things out, but hey, I need to keep my brain working. Same with the downloading of books, everything is constantly changing and I want to keep up. At first I was against computer/kindle books, but came around to realize it was not worth the fight, and darn convenient.

Pap, I finally went to my first Yoga class in my new city, then went for a pedicure. I just wanted to be good to myself and it felt great. I started to explore the meetup website around here and there were no groups I could find that were a good fit. Did you say you tried it out? If so, what type of group did you meetup with? I am interested as it is lonely with no friends close by.

So interesting that they are updating the website, I am looking forward to the new setup and really happy that this site will continue. This is a good way to begin a new life, lots of support, good tools, and great information. Have a lovely Sunday.

                      Good morning Star & friends

Absolutely perfect weather here today - yay
I'm heading out in a bit to spend the day with my girls. Their town is having their 3rd annual Free Market today. I'm taking some extra eggs

The saga of the home invasions continues & I understand investigators have a pretty good idea of who was involved & are in search of them now. This thing really left me feeling vulnerable being alone here all day in cow country. It happened at lunchtime
My phone is always in my pocket but the police have a long ride to get here so I am on alert!
I am due for a new phone next month myself. I think I'm going to stick with the iPhone but go for the iPhone5.
Star, I hope you can find a friend or two soon, I know it's not easy. Did you like the new yoga class? That sounds like a good start

Greetings to Dill, Papmom & Cyn - hope everyone is OK.

                        Hi All,

Lav, thanks for the link to the wikipedia article. I read it and it was truly alarming! I have been following the news on the 2 Pennsylvania state troopers that were ambushed. Was that anywhere near you? I hope they find the attacker(s)! That's just plain scary.

Star, I know exactly how you feel about technology constantly changing and having to be constantly learning new things. You have the right attitude tho about keeping open to it. It's not going away and mostly it is improving our lives. It is overwhelming at times tho!

I enjoyed the Heritage Festival. It was very low key and was held at a park that has several historic log cabins on it and a historic post and beam barn. The Historical Society put it on and they all wore period costumes and showed how things were done in the pioneer days. Lots of fun!

Enjoy the rest of the beautiful day we've been given! It's a gift best enjoyed AF.

                          Sweet September

                          Hi Everyone,
what a gorgeous day! Unfortunately I had to be inside at a demo but got out at 2. Took DD for a walk around my dad's neighborhood (lovely) while the towels were in the laundry. My washer can't handle heavy loads anymore so I'm always welcome to use his. He was at the boat cleaning it out but came home before the load was done so we got to visit a bit. Then home to more laundry, dishes, vacuuming and dinner. In between spent some time out on the deck reading. Ahhhhh.
My dad is selling the boat because frankly at 87 it's just become too much work for him plus the money involved in renting a mooring and winter storage is just something he can't afford anymore. The retirement community is wonderful with tons of perks but it is expensive!! I wish with all my heart I would win the lottery so I could buy a boat for him to enjoy without the work. I'm hoping next summer he's up for chartering one for a week or so. I would take vacation and go down everyday with him!

Star-the meetup group I tried last week was a crafty/audiobook get together. We sat in the back of the bookstore, put in an audiotape, pulled out our knitting and got to know one another. I like it although the chairs were uncomfortable (card table chairs) and the room was very small and stuffy. I'm torn about tomorrow nite. I have already decided to stop at the rail trail on my way home and try to do a 5K again. then either I go to the meetup group or go to the gym for the machines. I can't do both and I want to! I feel like I really need to keep up my strength training and it really shouldn't be a once a week thing. I would really make an effort to do it in the morning if I didn't have to leave so dang early for work!! This is a brand new meetup group so keep looking. New ones in your area should pop up all the time.

Lav, now I'm worried about you being out in the boonies all by yourself!! Do you have an alarm system (besides the dogs)?
As far as heartworm meds go, there is absolutely NO reason to give it monthly. that's a ploy to get owner compliance and $$ for the companies/vets. I have tons of friends who give it every 2 or 3 months (I give every 2 months) and I just heard of a version of it that can be given every 6 months which I will be checking out. The vets I currently use will give me a script to get it at Walmart (which is slightly cheaper as it's the generic of Heartgard Plus) but refuse to fax in an Rx to any of the online companies like 1800pedmeds.com. I had a big fight with them on that one but didn't win. I'm going to look into the 6 months one soon and will be prepared to fight again. I do give this year round because I have seen mosquitos in January and Heartworm is just nasty enough that I don't ever want to have to treat my pups for it. As far as any other meds they need to be on consistently, either for treating a condition or to make them comfortable, I always ask for a script so I can get it at Walmart. LM's Rx's don't cost anymore than any one of mine and I know they are working because the blood work tells me so. He's happy, full of life and you would never know he has 2 serious kidney diseases. if any of my kids ever need something like glucosomine, i would never buy it from the vet. I'll get it from Walmart or fight for an online company. Luckily I'm not there yet!

Dill, your heritage festival sounded like fun!! I'm really itching to do some sort of major road trip. I'm watching Rick Steve's Europe right now and he really makes traveling in Europe look like fun! He's very detailed and gives great tips. There must be something similar for the US I would think. Well, i guess my trip to Bar Harbor in a couple of weeks will have to satisfy my wonderlust for a while!!

Well, another week of unbearable boredom at work looms. Ick. It's really sad that I look so forward to 4pm and that my life is so full after that hour arrives but from 8-4 it means nothing. Unfortunately I have no idea what my Bliss is so I don't even know where to start looking and I don't have the funds to just quit my job and take my time to try to find it. I guess no one really gets to do that. Oh well, something will happen-it always does!!

                          Goodnite all!

Well, my plans to go to my first ever Free Market kinda got screwed up. We got there & the parking area was full! Someone did some shitty planning is all I can say :H
We spent a few hours with daughter & family, went out for lunch then turned around & came home. It was a nice day anyway

Papmom, I do have a working security system but honestly it wouldn't stop these gangs from getting in if that what they wanted. The response time from the state troopers is not immediate, they have to come a long way. My cell phone is always in my back pocket!
I am seriously sick & tired with fighting with the vet office over all this stuff. A young vet (friend of my son & DIL) is about to open his own practice. He is aware of what we've all been dealing with & promises to help reduce costs - thank goodness.
Keep buying those lottery tickets - you just never know!!!!!

Dill, the two troopers that were ambushed outside their barracks this weekend are assigned to an area up in the Pocono Mountains in NE PA. Not near here at all. So sad, hard to think about.
I am so happy my son dropped his bid for a job with the state police - he was about to be hired earlier this year. Not that his job is any safer - this all freaks me out!
Glad you had a good day at the festival, sounds like fun.

YB is apparently coming down with a case of man flu - I gave him a bottle of cough syrup. I hope he's grateful because that's all the sympathy he's going to get :H

                              Sweet September

                              Good morning...

Had a great Sunday, ready for work this morning.

Lav, keep safe, you have your phone, if you had to you could call 911 and hide. That would give you time. What a sad thing to have to worry about. What does your husband say about it? Now that he is sick, will he be around for a few days?

Pap, you are one busy lady. Sorry work is so boring, I know right now I need more to do, but with a new position, it takes time. Balance would be nice. Why will you vet not let you get prescriptions online? I am confused. They should work with you. That is a reason I quit taking my pets to the vet yearly, it was too expensive and they were fine. Also, not exposed to anything. Why does everybody have to be so money hungry? Glad the doggies are doing better.

Dill, you sound good. Peaceful and busy, but not too busy. It is still really cool out, but this week looks to be perfect weather. Enjoy.

Tomorrow we may not be able to get on this site, so maybe see you Wednesday.
