    Good evening friends!

Never got a chance to say hello this morning - busy, busy here!
Just sent the girls home, we had a nice visit & even went outlet shopping to finally get Christmas started.

Dill, here's that recipe again: http://12tomatoes.com/2014/01/slow-c...i-chicken.html
YB took the leftover for lunch, that's another sign that something was good
Glad you have had time with the grandkids too.

    Beautiful day here too Cyn!
I'm into roasting veggies with a little touch of olive oil, salt & pepper. I just whack the butternut squash or spaghetti squash in half & roast them cut side down. Glad your doggie is healing well.

Papmom has been busy on Facebook, I see her there every day.
    Fly, hello to you!

I'm off to the dentist for the dreaded root canal tomorrow ~ pray for me, LOL
    Have a great night everyone!

      Good morning,

Lav, I found a very basic teriyaki recipe on the web yesterday and it sufficed, but I plan on using the recipe you linked next time. It sounds really good. I especially like the finishing off by thickening in a pan. I think that would make for easier serving at the table. I'll be thinking of you. I've never had a root canal, but I've had crowns and also periodental surgery so I can well relate to your ordeal! You'll do fine tho, I'm sure.

Cyn, how wonderful to look on the bright side of being up and out at 5 am, appreciating the light and the colors of dawn. Awesome. Now, that's what I call an attitude of grattitude! I'm glad girl dog is on the mend. Speaking of squash, did I tell you that I made a pumpkin pie the other day from scratch? I cut the pie pumpkin in half, scooped out the seeds then roasted the two halves cut side down for an hour. After it cooled I scraped out the pumpkin meat. It made 4 cups mashed which is enough for two 9" pies. I used a small pumpkin I bought at walmart that was labelled "pie" pumpkin, but it didn't seem to truly be one. However, it worked just fine for a pie, but the texture wasn't as dense and the color wasn't as deep as a true pie pumkin. But the taste of the pie was excellent!

Thinking of you Star, hope you enjoy your conference.

      Hi Fly and Papmom.

Granddaughter goes back home today so I will be able to get caught up around here! Whew! She's a joy but it takes a lot of energy to keep up with her!

        Greetings Dill & everyoone!

Boy was I pleasantly surprised this morning!
That was virtually a painless root canal. I guess getting the novocaine in just the right spot is a big help
I'm sure when it wears off later I'll be feeling something but that was easy - nothing like the last experience.
Dill, I've had all kinds of dental work done over teh years, lots of crowns & all that but there is just something about the root canal procedure....

I'm in my shop now & will be taking a break in a bit to go to the stiore. I'm thinking about a low sodium meatloaf for dinner, really good even though I make it with turkey instead of beef & I love the leftovers
My mom was recently diagnosed with congestive heart failure, so I have been trying to come up with recipes that she can have (she is on a restricted s

          Good morning...

Great conference, tired, glad to be back.

Lav, thanks for the two great recipes, I have lots of ideas for next week. I always use turkey groud meat rather than ground beef too. What a great idea for a cold rainy time. The root canal went well, good! Hope you continue to heal.

Dill, fun with your granddaughter and pizza too. Julia Child was driven by food, it was her passion. Very interesting book. Getting to the part where she is getting older. Your pumpkin pie sounds delicious. It is fun to cook from scratch!!!

Cyn, so good to hear about lovely weather and good things. Historically, women had it rough. 13 year old mother, wow. Not like she had a choice. I am going to look up that book, thanks for sharing. I am always on the lookout for a good book.

Hello Pap. Everyone, have a great Thursday.

            Good morning,

Star, it's good to have you back and great that you enjoyed the conference! Glad you're enjoying the Julia Child book. Yes it was fun having the granddaughter over. She loves the outdoors and I have to watch her like a hawk because she'll slip out every now and then. We live well off the road, so that's not a concern, but it is really disconcerting when I see the front door open and I know she's escaped yet again! LOL! But she doesn't go far. She is usually just sittine on the front porch glider talking to the dog or she's somewhere in the yard picking up sticks or playing in the leaves. It's really fun to watch her explore. Yesterday I went out with her for a long while. It was cool and cloudy but no wind or wet, so I gave her a spade and a bucket and pointed her toward the newly plowed garden. Lots of soft soil and the occasional potato or pepper to find. She played there for an hour at least! The dog is always nearby curious about this little human creature that moves so quickly and keeps so busy. At one point the dog was right in the garden next to her, digging. Watching her play always takes me back to my own childhood. I was an outdoors child too. I'm so glad to be able to enjoy my time with her without being trapped inside a bottle unable to truly connect or be truly present.

Lav, thanks for the meatloaf link. It looks like a really good recipe and I will use it next time I make meatloaf. We just recently had it so it will be a while. I love meatloaf and mashed potatoes! I'm glad your root canal went well. Did you have any pain afterwards? Did they prescribe any pain medication?

I didn't get much done yesterday after my gd left. I just sat and crocheted! Today I feel rested and ready to get things around here straightened and cleaned. Furnace needs repair and the technician comes today so I'll be on the lookout for him. It's supposed to get cold tonight so we need that furnace up and running!

              Good morning friends!

Dark & damp here this morning but not terribly cold.
I plan to ignore it & light up my shop real well & get some stuff done anyway

Dill, I am amazed & feel fortunate that I had no pain yesterday. I just remember a terrible experience the last time I had a root canal done. I was give another week's worth of antibiotic to take though as there is still a bit of infection present - no big deal. I've doubled up on my usual probiotic since all this started to protect my delicate gut
Your granddaughter sounds a lot like mine. It is great to watch them explore & grow week by week!

Star, glad you had a good conference. It's always nice to have a paid day out of work, LOL
Enjoy that meatloaf recipe, I like it just the way it is but you can always add more seasonings. YB covers everything in ketchup & horseradish which defeats the low sodium goal but that's his problem, not mine. Replacing bread crumbs with oats cuts out a ton of sodium. My B/P has been good & I want to keep it that way.

Greetings Cyn, Papmom & Fly. I hope everyone has a wonderful AF Thursday!

                Evening all -
Lav so glad to hear about the pain-free root canal. Who knew? I have a terrible time with novocaine - unless they get it in exactly the right place I feel everything. Thanks for the recipes - you are my personal Food Network.

Dill - what great images of your gd, especially with the dog out digging in the garden - wonderful.

Star - welcome back. I hope that you find the book, then you can give us a report!

This will be short, as it has been a very emotional and chaotic couple of days. The path report on girl dog's mouth tumor came back with spindle-cell carcinoma. Could be worse, as it's allegedly slow growing, but it's not great news. I spent all of Tuesday night researching naturopathic cancer treatments - there are some great approaches out there, so I'll be working them hard. I thought girl-dog was at least feeling fine, but last night about 1/2 hour after eating, she was shaking and in severe distress. I got her to an after-hours vet, and we ruled out bloat, which was my biggest fear, but she had a fever and still was in distress. They gave her pain meds, fluids, on and on. I brought her home, but despite the meds she had a terrible night. I pulled out the sleeping bag (again) and slept holding her shaking and moaning body all night. What a helpless feeling! Took her to my vet this AM (it took a lot to get her up); big infection, still had a temp, in pain, ruled out pancreatitis, mystery. I left her there for IV pain meds and antibiotics (I hate to do it, but what are you going to do?). She apparently got some good rest - I'm calling them in a few minutes to hopefully go pick her up. I'm kind of anxious, and would like to have her home. I'm doing well just being light and caring around her, but this has all been a lot for her, and for her brother dog, and for me! So, crossing fingers. Will have more info tomorrow -- Wishing all a good night ---

Sorry to hear all that Cyn. Thinking of you tonight, hope things settle down a bit. Sending a big hug to you & your doggies!

Babysitter not available tomorrow so I've been assigned all day duty with the younger grandson. EB gets off the school bus at 3:40 pm, I'll meet him & bring him here too. Going to be a busy day for me.
I will be thinking about all of you

                      Happy Friday all -

Lav - good luck with your day! How old is your youngest grandbaby? 3-ish? Sounds exhausting to me - is he growing out of the funny behaviors?

Got girl dog home from the vet at 8 PM, drugged but fever-free. Had a decent night's sleep (with the camping pad and sleeping bag) and things are quiet this AM. Gave her a little breakfast, we'll see how she keeps that down.

Wishing all a great Friday; and hey --- let's take time to breathe...

Awww, Cyn:hug: I know how hard it all is. I hope girl dog feels well very soon. Thanks for the reminder to breathe. I'm glad you enjoyed imagining my little gdaughter in the garden. I didn't mention that she put down the spade some of the time and used her hands to dig just like the dog was! Those two are such good buddies.

Lav, I'll send you my spare energy for your day! I'm enjoying peace and quiet here and have some energy to spare.:happy2:

                        Hello Star, Papmom and Fly.

I made some ciabatta bread yesterday for the first time. It was interesting working with that sticky, gooey, blob of dough. I managed to shape it into 2 loaves and it was definitely worth the effort. YUM!

Here are two pics from granddaughter's outdoor play. All that soft dirt for her to dig in! She found a potato and gave it to Tessa who received it gratefully and ate it lickety-split!

                              Good morning...

I was sick Thursday night, must have eaten something that disagreed with me, and just barely made it through work yesterday. I thought of calling off but have not even worked 90 days so toughed it out. Still messed up, falling asleep at 7 and waking up this am at 2:00. I thought, well, just visit MWO and catch up. I'll take a short nap this afternoon, then stay up till 10 and I'll be back on track. Lots to do today, so will keep busy.

Cyn, so sorry to hear about your poor doggie. I hate when animals get sick, they are so helpless. You are a wonderful pet owner. All that love and caring. Almost done with Julia Child book, then will look for War of the Roses.

Lav, glad you are getting better and better, with limited pain. You are so creative with your recipes and generous in sharing them with us. Thanks.

Dill, your granddaughter is so precious. Thanks for the pics. Your dog is very cute too. This year you are enjoying your retirement, I can hear it in your contentment in doing what you want to when you want too. Good, you deserve it.

A busy and cold Saturday today. Bills, exercise (I hope) shopping and getting things done. Oh, and library. I love Saturdays. Have a good one.

                                Happy Saturday all -
Have to make some sense of this house before SD and dog arrive this morning, and HB comes this evening for an overnight. I was going back to the city with him for an overnight on Sunday, but cancelled since I am still working on girl dog/special diet/etc. I can't imagine putting a pet sitter through an emergency vet visit!

Star, so sorry you got sick - hope you feel better soon! I think the book is called The Wars of Roses - in the UK it came out as 'The Hollow Crown' (I think...) Lav - hope that you continue to feel well and aren't too worn out. PMom - good luck on what is sure to be a busy weekend. Dill - loved the pics, and I want her boots!
