    Good morning...

Enjoying my first coffee. I thought I posted yesterday, but I guess I didn't.

Cyn, I loved your post about wearing your Mom's boots and her gift to you, staying connected, checking up, celebrating life events and being joyful. My Mother was like that too and I miss her dreadfully. I think it is just that without your mother you feel alone. I am grateful that we can talk about our mothers and the beautiful legacies they have left us. I am going to start a gratitude jar too. What a lovely idea.

Dill, I wrote down the book source you mentioned and will definitely look into them. I bought him his first book and continue to add to his collection. I also have books at my own place that I am saving for him. My daughter is really good about reading to him and he loves books already. Sorry grandson is sick, I feel for him after this cold I am still getting rid of. Yuck. How close are you to them? Big news, we put an offer on a house yesterday. We have looked at about 20-25 houses, and this one is not our dream home, but has a good location, ranch, affordable, and pretty new inside. It has a really small yard but that is something that we want, even though it will take getting used to. After all, we live in a city now. Closer to my grandson, only about 40 minutes, so I will be able to be more involved in his life. I am very excited and hope it goes through. Afterall, it's not yours till the closing. Just wanted to make one more comment. And you probably know this. Your grandson has been through trauma with the breakup of his family, so may need a little more time academically. I've seen it before. He will catch up with love, encouragement, and lots of reading time. You are the best grandma, next to Lav and now me.

Lav, how sweet of you to make your chickens a special treat! I think it would be so cool to be able to have some farm animals, big dogs, of course cats, and maybe some more pets. However, not for me with the path my life is following currently. That is OK. I looked up some recipes and made Tilapia yesterday and it was delicious. Are you into fish? It is not fishy, inexpensive compared to others, and very light. My goal is to eat at home for health reasons and to save money. I feel that I am going to find myself again after this last year of changes.

Pap, how absolutely cool that you are going to be able to walk to work. To me that is a dream come true. I will be so interested to see how much you enjoy this new way of life. I have been at Lowe's online, as the new house has no fireplace and we are thinking of purchasing one of those electric ones that give off heat and look pretty. So, today off to Lowe's. It is a great store. I understand about the washer, I am using the apartment small one, and am looking forward to using a regular one again. My new house has a laundry room, very important to me. Lots of changes for us this year. I am thrilled that you can fit into more comfortable sizes, have your weight under control and enjoy exercise. I have exercised every day this week and feel stronger, so will continue when I go back to work tomorrow. Yikes, it will be hard to go back.

    Have a peaceful Sunday.

      Good morning friends,

We've had steady rain for 24+ hours but at least it's not snowing

Papmom, are you happy about getting your new washer?? Ha Ha!
I'm happy for you, really! I know what a pain it is living without one. I hope you are caught up with your laundry now. I am also happy that you will be starting your new job soon! New year with big changes, yay!!

Star, great that you found a house! It may not be your dream house but you can make it 'dreamy' once you're in
Depending on the traffic I am about 45 minutes away from my daughter too, not bad. Their settlement is scheduled on the 21st. I hope everything works out for you!

About fish - I have never been a big fan, don't like to cook it at home. I have issues with the safety of eating fish. Many of our ocean fish have high levels of mercury & farm raised fish are full of other pollutants, antibiotics & pesticides. Tilapia, in particular is known to cause inflammation
Fish is a low-fat, high-protein food that has a range of health benefits. However, given what we know of fish and its sources today, that's not always true.

Sticking mostly with plant based foods is better for me. YB, on the other hand would eat fish 7 days/week & not be concerned. We're all different!

Greetings Dill & Cyn, hope you are both well!
Nothing special planned for today, will see what happens. Wishing everyone a great AF Sunday!

      Lav

        Happy Sunday all -

Wow, lots of news on all fronts!

Star - how exciting about finding a house! That's terrific - I'll be crossing fingers for the closing. How wonderful that you are that close to GK...40 minutes sounds perfect. I now dream about a small yard...I had a postage-stamp yard in an earlier house, and that kept me plenty busy...I'd go back to that in a heartbeat and this point, just to stop bush-whacking! Yes, it's been quite a year for you to get through -- hope you will be able to continue focusing on yourself.

Lav - I love the wreath story - I confess that I never thought about chickens getting stressed out because of those attacks, but it makes sense. Uuugh, I hate to think about how stressed out commercial chickens are. Is that seed wreath something I could make for birds? I waited too long to try to put the bird feeder pole up - ground is too frozen now, so I'm trying to come up with some inventive solutions. Sorry that swissy is getting you up so early! I've finally got my dogs to the point where if I ask them, they'll go back to bed for awhile.

Pap - great news on so many fronts: washer, clothes sizes, fitbit steps, all of it. And by the way, being able to do laundry at one's own home is an incredible luxury -- it just might be at the top of today's gratitude list for me. When I think of my dear grandmother walking down 4 flights of stairs to the basement of her apartment, and putting the clothes through a ringer to dry them...wow, our expectations have changed. I also heard from some friends that just returned from a semester in Rome. Apparently no one has a washer in their apartment there - you have to make special arrangements. And a dryer? Forget about it. The clothes get hung up in the apartment, which is already moldy. Sounded like a disaster to me!

Dill - so glad that you are passing your love of reading on to the GKs. One of my hopes for the new year was to read a book of fiction - normally all I read about is health, food, brain research, etc. In HB's library, I found "Wolf Hall' and decided to give it a try. Wow, how fascinating - I was up until midnight reading, unheard of!

Hope everyone has a great day. It's rainy and bleak here, making yesterday's snow a slushy-icy mess. So no outside work this morning for me. I'm off to finish a special project I was contracted for. I spent many hours at the computer yesterday working on it -- I can't manage that much screen time anymore, so I'm hoping to get it 'done and dusted' today.

        Look for the light!

X-post, Lav! Thanks for the link re: fish. I've been reading about recommendations for Omega 3 supplements to come from phytoplankton now, instead of fish. Also, thanks again for the MindBodyGreen site suggestion - that is one powerhouse of a site!

Hello All, it's one of those days for me. No time for a real post. Gdaughter over night so it's all hands on deck here! LOL

Pmom, congrats on the washing machine!
            Star, awesome on the house!
Cyn, "done and dusted" means that Sooty is "gone, but not forgotten"! Thanks for the reminder.
Lav, I had that awful rain all day yesterday. Today, no rain but it's gray and the temps are dropping. Get ready!

I'll try to do better tomorrow.
            Dill

              Good morning...

Back to work and it is 7 degrees, yikes. January can be a tough month!

Lav, thanks for the info on tilapia, I had no idea. Darn, it was tasty and inexpensive. I loved that website and will go back. It is so hard to know what is healthy and what is not.

Cyn, Dill, Lav, thanks for the support about the house. We will find out more this week about the process.

Pap, what a luxury to do your laundry at home. enjoy. Back to work for you today too?

My goal is to keep warm. Have a great day.

                Morning all -

Wow - what a change in the weather! Thanks for the warning, Star - I'm getting my 'longies' out for the next week.

Lav - dr. axe - another wonderful site. Just downloaded the e-books and look forward to scoping them out. The idea of the healthy grocery list is wonderful - I hope that it is as good as it sounds. I find it hard in the grocery store to make all those decisions...seems like there's something wrong with everything! I am still struggling with low weight, and trying to keep excited about food, but after cooking so much for the dogs, I am not so interested in feeding myself! They get hi-animal clean protein, and good vegies, so I can always just eat their food...I'm hoping some of the dr. axe recipes will turn me on.

Going out shopping this morning before the temps plunge any lower -- poor dogs are getting a little stir-crazy, so maybe I'll try to walk them as well. But the wind! I'm with you Dill, I can handle most all of it but the wind.

Finished the big project over the weekend, so today it will be about putting xmas away and getting more materials done for my business. Woo Hoo!

Wishing all a great day - stay warm out there.

Good morning friends & happy Monday!

Cloudy & chilly here, oh well. The real cold weather will be here later & I'm hearing rumors of some possible snow tomorrow, oh no!

Star, I have inadvertently become the food police, honestly!
I've always been interested in nutrition & a believer in the 'you are what you eat' theory. These days it's just damn ridiculous what food corporations & even the FDA are trying to pass off as 'healthy'
I was startled to read a report recently that claims that a child has a nine times higher chance of developing childhood leukemia if they consume 12 hotdogs/month! NITRITES CAUSE CANCER! We need to stay away from processed meats & processed foods, period!! Then there's the artificial food colorings & preservatives, artificial sweeteners, yuck!
I keep running across the phrase 'Chemical shit storm' when reading about the nature of the average American diet these days! How sad is that?? No wonder we all suffer with bizarre symptoms, huh?

OK, off my soapbox now because I need to get to Curves
Wishing everyone a wonderful AF day. Greetings to Cyn, Dill & Papmom!

Cyn, I struggle finding what I can cook DF & GF & still make it acceptable to everyone else who eats here

Believe it or not I ran across a copy cat Chick fil A recipe & made chicken nuggets DF & GF last evening & everyone loved them! Of course, frying anything in peanut oil is going to taste good (I won't make them too often). They were good tossed on top of a huge salad.

You asked about the seed treat yesterday & I meant to give you the recipe I used. You'll have to substitute something for the chicken feed & scratch. I didn't have wheat germ on hand so I used a big scoop of the wild bird seeds I put in my bird feeder. Use whatever you have on hand. http://www.theprairiehomestead.com/2...ock-block.html

I have been to Curves & the market. Now I am considering a pot of vegan cabbage bisque for a meatless Monday!!!

Lav, thank you for the link about the fish, ...I think. I mean, I got kind of depressed after reading about the subject. I googled other sources, and they seemed to support the same. I like fish, but geez!

Cyn, I didn't know you were having trouble building your weight up. It's the opposite of the rest of us, LOL! I recommend buttered popcorn. I have been trying to find the perfect home popped recipe and I think I have. Here's the link: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Movie-Star-Popcorn/ It's made with peanut oil, but I didn't have any so used grapeseed oil instead. It was delicious. I've made it with coconut oil, too. Get addicted to popcorn and you'll put on some pounds!

Star, keeping warm is my number one priority. This bitter cold is depressing. But yesterday morning, just before the cold front came thru it was in the 50's and there were the most beautiful clouds as I was driving home from church. It was awe inspiring. I took a moment to enjoy it, knowing what was coming next!

Papmom, how's that new washer working for you? Did you get a top loader or a front loader?

Time to go make dinner. Have a peaceful AF evening all.

Sorry about the fish news Dill. I feel like the bearer of bad news on the food front
We really do need to know what we are putting into our bodies. Big food corporations & even the FDA are big liars & deceivers.

                          Good morning...

Dill, I know, I was kind of depressed too reading that Tilapia is not good for you. I mean, I thought I was doing something healthy in preparing fish!

Lav, I felt sick when I read about hot dogs. I used to consume them daily for years, my son too. Yikes.

Cyn, we have six inches of snow, which is a big deal here. The weather people are so happy, they finally have something to talk about.

I guess I have to shovel my car off before work, no garage. But, hopefully, soon I will have one again. I really want to get settled in my new home.

Hi Pap. Hope things are wrapping up at work. Time is going fast.

                            Good Tuesday morning friends!

Yep, it's snowing here too Star. I think we're only supposed to get two inches or so, we'll see!
Be careful out on the roads! I'm going to just stay put until my 3 pm dental cleaning appointment.

I have a dairy free cookbook that I turn to for inspiration. Yesterday I made a cabbage bisque that was delicious. Even YB liked it, Ha Ha! It was loaded with fresh veggies from my farm share & seasoned perfectly with fresh dill, sea salt & white pepper It was thickened with lots of potatoes, no flour & I used rice milk. Yummy! This is a delicious way to add more veggies into your life friends.

                            Greetings Dill, Papmom & Cyn!

Hi all - STAY WARM! Oh well, I guess this is January, after all. I feel like we've had such mild weather and little snow (oops, except for the foot of snow before Thanksgiving and losing power, hmmm) that I can't complain. I have to say that cold or not, I loved the bright sunshine yesterday.

Star - I feel for you on the 'car-outside' front. I lived for 20 years in the midwest with my car parked on the street. That was a lot of years if brushing snow off! I got used to running out and warming it up ahead of time - hope your parking space is not too far away from your apartment. And 6 inches of snow! That sounds like a lot for a place that isn't used to it.

Dill - thanks for the advice re: popcorn. Unfortunately, some of the issues I have are dealing with digestion and blood sugar; so popcorn is off the list, as is cheese, wheat, refined sugar - all the things that would help put weight on! But I think that I'm slowly gaining on it, with the help of a naturopath and herbal supplements. I'm to have some med tests soon, now that the new year of insurance is kicking in. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

Lav - thanks for all the info. Yep, I get regular deliveries of Flax Oil - the dogs and I share it! But there are some issues with absorption, and Omega 3 versus Omega 6 levels, aren't there? I've found some reputable high-quality canned salmon (mail order) that I use for salmon cakes, and I'm researching the phyto-plankton (for my dog!) RE: hot dogs and cancer, decades ago I knew a mom that fed her kid only organic, whole foods - waaaay before her time. Her son used to shout at the other kids "don't put that hot-dog in your mouth, it will give you cancer!" Not exactly a conversation starter with the other moms!

Pap - hope these last weeks at your current job are not too taxing, and also hope the doggies are well. Enjoy the washer/dryer!

Sending everybody warm virtual blankies --

Mmm, Lav! A cabbage bisque sounds really good to me. I like cabbage soup, cabbage rolls, cabbage casserole. I don't know when I developed the love for cabbage because when I was younger I absolutley would not touch it!

Cyn, can you digest agave? It's one of the healthiest sweeteners according to my nurse friend who is very careful about what she eats. Is hummus on your diet? What about nutella? How do you do with rice noodles? Hmm, I'm going to be trying to think of things to help you put on some padding! LOL!

Star, I hear such a huge shift in your thinking re: moving to the new house. You are finding apartment life a bit more cramped and inconvenient than when you first began? I know that a garage, preferably attached, is of primary importance to me. I feel for you having to go out in this weather and scrape the windshied! I had many years of that before we did our addition out here. I am continually grateful for being able to get in and out of my vehicle out of the WIND, rain and snow. The wind here on the driveway side of our house comes barrelling in from the northwest across farm fields with nothing to block it. This is one reason I have such an aversion to wind.

                                Greetings Ms. Papmom.

It's so bitter cold here and we got about 6 inches last night too. I just finished shovelling off the driveway. The snow was light and fluffy so it wasn't too strenuous a task and it was good exercise. I thought of the benefits of being outside and getting the fresh air and whatever light I could and that made the work seem like much less of a task. The dog seemed appreciative, too. She does not like snow and was thrilled to have a place cleared!
I splurged recently and bought myself a Nativity set online for next Christmas. I realized that it was something I was missing at the Christmas holiday. I have one that is ceramic that I actually made myself years ago as a gift to my parents. It is up in my attic. Hand-painted and really quite nice if I do say so myself, but I don't want something breakable with the grandchildren around, so I bought a resin set, hand-painted and really nice. So I won't worry about the children handling it. I'm looking forward to it's arrival. I was talking to my gson about what year it is and that our calendar was based on how many years have passed since the first Christmas. I'm afraid all of that is lost to so many children today, including my grandchildren. So I vowed to have something tangible in my home to help them understand, on so many levels.
Last night was the full moon but it was hidden by the snow clouds. I wonder if we'll see the moon tonight? Have a peaceful and AF evening everyone.
