    Fearless February

    Good morning all...

I am officially moved in!!!! No internet till yesterday, but was too busy to post. The move went so well, our moving men were true professionals, and we were in our house by 2:00 pm. Yesterday I went to the apartment and cleaned, paid, handed in the keys, and I am done with that place. Ohhh it stunk so bad. But, that is in the past. Right now, I am enjoying my new home so much. Still have some boxes to unpack, but the smells and the room and the sunlight. My mood is so much better. My cat loves the new place, and is running around having a ball. I was able to cook in my new kitchen and it was just wonderful. Supposedly snow predicted tonight, but not a big deal. I am close to all kinds of stores, and only 2-4 inches predicted for us. My friend from up north has a foot of snow to look forward too. I am so relieved I don't have to deal with that anymore. So, my ten months of changes, stressors, 2 moves, craziness is OVER. I am going to enjoy every minute.

Lav, glad to hear you are there for your daughter if she needs you, but maybe you can relax for Super Bowl Sunday. What are some healthy snacks that you make? I am definitely interested. I do not know anything about taking antidepressants, but took a benzo, PRN, when my son was a teen, for panic attacks. I realized they could be addictive, but it was so bad for a while, that the benzo's helped. Never with booze either, by the way. I knew I could die. I felt really depressed this last year with all the changes, but knew that it was a normal reaction to all that was going on. The thought processes of gratitude, focusing on positives and affirmations really helped. I would try Amoryn if I needed too, but feel OK now. Exercise is a pretty good antidepressant for some, but not always. What I eat and drink affects my mood too! Took me a while to figure that out, but I finally have. Like you, I put myself first. Loving ourselves makes it possible to be there for family and friends.

Dill, what an interesting story about your across the street neighbor. Thanks for sharing. I liked the part where you said she is social, joined things, and reaches out. I realized I don't always do that and thus have not made any friends besides work. Gave me alot to think about. Plus, I liked your neighbor, she sounds fun!

Cyn, you sound busy and productive!! I am so happy to be moved in, it is just lovely. I have never had a pantry before and LOVE IT! The movers were so good, it made it the best move I have ever had. Plus, decluttering two times in ten years helped. I know that sounds funny, but decluttering on an ongoing basis is so important. Otherwise, things just pile up. I have a bunch of pictures that I will have to give to goodwill - I just don't have use for them. I like this house, it is open and airy, and I don't want to clutter it up. Stay warm and safe with all that snow. Watching the birds when the weather is severe is so fun, they flock to birdfeeders. We have a bunch of geese that hang out near a pond by our house, and they are so funny. They were walking across the street, taking their time....

Pap, OK, all the snow time off is really nice for you!! You needed a break and got it. What is going on with your other job? Is it worth it with having to use your car to drive far distances? I know you enjoy it though. Sounds like you got alot done. I am looking up freecycle as I have stuff I could give away. Stay warm and safe.

To all, have a good Sunday.

Good morning friends, happy February to all

Thanks for starting us up Star & congrats on your successful move!
Sounds like you are settling in nicely, that's wonderful. I hope you have great neighbors, something I miss.
We actually don't watch much football (I don't watch any). Super Bowl snacks are not on my game plan today ~ sorry!
I made a pot of bone broth yesterday & will be turning that into chicken noodle soup today

Greetings Dill, Papmom & Cyn! I hope you all have a great day.
Only expecting a few inches of snow tonight in this area, yay!

Have a great AF Sunday everyone!

      Hello all -

Just got SD and HB in the car and on their way to find a new place for SD to live - her (geographic) area of work has changed, and she now has a 45 minute commute each way, and her already high rent will be raised soon, so...the hunt is on (again). I'll leave in a bit with her dog, driving 1.5 hrs (one way) to deliver the dog and pick up HB. Even when they're all grown up, we do what we can to help the kids, right?

Yes, more snow for us tonight and tomorrow - can't figure it out - 6" to over a foot. Well, we'll see...I did keep some 5 gallon containers of water...just couldn't throw clean water down into the septic. Maybe we'll need it after all; but I hope not!

Star - CONGRATS - you did it! And happiness is the payoff for thinking positively about all the changes and stressors. Wishing you many happy years in your new house. And yes, food is a huge piece of the puzzle. I just read something that I'm going to post on the fridge: 'your dinner can determine your destiny, your fork can decide your fate.' What a succinct reminder!!

Happy Sunday all, superbowl or not (not, here in this house!). PS - Star, the MSN homepage had a link to healthy snacks you can make at half-time!

OK, off to get ready for a mini-road trip! Be well all - Pap, good luck with the snow --

Hi Lav, I had to google bone broth! LOL! I had never heard the term before, but upon googling, I did find that it is a familiar practice for me. Especially when I have left over roasted chicken.

Star, thanks for the start. I was so happy this morning when I saw the new thread had been started by you. I wasn’t sure how long the move would keep you away. I’m so glad your move was so smooth and that you love your new home. I can understand the need for benzo when your son was going thru his teen years. It was generally a difficult period for us, too, when our kids were teens. My drinking ticked up quite a bit during that period.

Papmom, looking back on that period of depression, I am fairly certain that what I was dealing with was depression caused by daily drinking to excess. Alcohol truly is a depressant. The benefits are so short lived. You have that 2-3 hours of escape and then the disrupted sleep, the hangover, the remorse, shame, the lack of energy and enthusiasm for the whole next day until, voila, it’s time to start it all over again! What a horrible waste. Yes, I feel amazingly better. I love the quilt!

Cyn, the other factor at the time I went on the lexapro was situational stress. It was when my son was in Iraq. I was having a hard time dealing. Generally I am fortunate enough to have an even keel. Good job on the seed wreath.

Mr. D and I have been seeing a coyote coming unusually close to the house during the day. It coincides with a current news story in our area involving a missing K9 dog. The TV news reports that the specially trained K9 dog escaped and they have a $2000 reward posted for anyone who finds it. So, when we saw the coyote at first we were wondering if it was the missing dog. After we got a good look at it tho, we realized it was just a coyote. The whole incident prompted Mr. D to buy a special wild life cam and post it out by the pond. We did manage to pick up an image of the coyote and a deer. It’s kind of fun!
        Dill

Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

Yay Star!! I am sooooooo happy for you!! Your new house sounds amazing!! I'm really not liking my cluttered, cramped, dark house right now! Can't move tho.

As far as keeping the PT job-yes I enjoy it but I may start resenting the gas I use very soon. I just have to get off my butt and start looking for a stationary PT job. The other up side with what I currently have is I can make my schedule-not so with a desk or reception job I'm sure. I don't know-so up in the air about this!!

C yn-I don't think they are kidding with the 12" prediction. Hope your road trip goes well. If you are dropping off the dog, does that mean they found a place for your SD already even tho they just started looking this morning?

Dill-hope that coyote didn't get that missing K9 dog!! No dog stands a chance with a pack of them unfortunately. We have lots of missing dogs around here and it breaks my heart everytime I see a notice on FB. Sometimes they are found, most times not. Its my worst nightmare.

Lav-glad you are missing the worst of the storm. You must be just south enough. A friend north of Chicago got at least a foot. That is what is coming our way. I just hope it waits until the superbowl is over and my dad and I are home safe and sound!!

Got a hit on the Juicer. I had edited the original add from $100 to $50, then changed my mind before publishing and put in $75. The person who responded said both prices were in the add. ?????? My bad so I told him he could have it for $50. Just trying to come up with a time that works for both of us. He's coming from a ways.

Took LM for a short walk when I got home from errands this afternoon-no jammies needed as it's in the 30s right now. He never finished his breakfast even tho I set him up in the sunroom where he has nice views while I went shopping. I put some stella and chewys in it for him after the walk and he gobbled it right up!! I'm going to have to make a concerted effort to take him out in the morning from now on. It's only for 10 min but maybe it will get his metabolism going. As soon as I can find boots to fit Mickey, he'll go with us. It is slippery out there tho-black ice under the snow. I almost fell twice.

Well, got lots of chores today before heading out to my Sister's. I'll check in tomorrow!

            Good morning....

Just find it wonderful to wake up in my new home. I am so grateful to have a beautiful place to live in. Very happy to be farther south, just rained yesterday with ice and a little snow. Over a foot north of here, and I am so happy I don't have to deal with it. Sorry to sound like a broken record, but as Cyn and Pap know, severe weather controls everything you do.

Lav, I have felt really dry recently, using a netti pot, drinking lots of water. Can you think of anything else I can do? I think I need to buy a humidifier. What kinds of foods would help with this? Hmmmm. I will have to research. I just ask you as you have had good suggestions in the past and great links. Hope you keep warm and have a great Monday.

Cyn, safe travels. Yes, we help our kids no matter how old they are. Hopefully, they help us too.

Dill, my son's teen years were the worst. He was bullied by peers and teachers. It was a horror story. I am so glad he survived and is doing well. Of course it was hard on me too. I wonder if I was depressed at the time. I fought it like crazy. It is such a relief to not live with him, which sounds cruel, but he continues to struggle and is negative alot, so I limit my calls. I have to protect myself or I get really anxious and upset. Plus, things are going well for him. Some people just have a negative thought pattern and are emotional vampires. I feel badly about it. My daughter, totally opposite. She is always positive and even when things are difficult, doesn't wallow in her misery. I cannot imagine the stress of having your son in Iraq. What a difficult time for you and your family. You are so right emphasizing the depressive effects of alcohol. Once it is out of your life, mood issues are improved. The cycle you described fit me and was hard to read. Life is filled with so many good things, alcohol not being one of them. Unless you can have one or two, but what is the point? Right? Keep warm and have a cozy day.

Pap, happy to hear your doggie is doing better. I know you have worked hard to declutter your house, so have I but it is still amazing to me when I move how much STUFF I have. One thing I am going to do in this new house is have limited stuff on the walls, no extra furniture, etc. Zen decorating.

Lots to do today, I took the day off. We have unpacked most of the boxes and now have to find a place to recycle them. To all, have a great Monday.

              Good morning friends,

Yucky looking here this morning. It was snowing when I went to bed last night & raining when I woke up.
Not sure if I even want to go out today! It's 32 degrees so all this slush will freeze!

Happy groundhog day! Yes, the Pennsylvania rodent 'Punxsutawney Phil' is predicting 6 more week of winter, ha ha!!!!

Dill & Star, thanks for sharing about the tough times you had with your sons
I can honestly say that when my kids were in their teens & beyond their troubles were relatively small. They did not cause me to suffer - that was YB's job. The older the kids got the more he slid out of control & that's what caused me so much grief. To me there was no justifiable reason for his behavior, none of it made any sense. All these years later I can see what was going on with him. He was completely under the spell of his ego - not good.

Star, I'm so happy that you are happy in your new home
Living with less clutter feels good. I need to get rid of more clutter myself!

Papmom, congrats on the Super Bowl win
Be careful out there today, I know this storm is all snow for you!

Star, dealing with dry air is a big problem for me as well. This new heating system we have has an adjustable humidity setting. I need to increase it a bit today because I've been getting 'shocks' when I touch metal things like the doors, ha ha!
I do have a small humidifier in my bedroom that I use at night too. I think we need to drink a lot more fluids as well to keep from getting dried out.

Cyn, I hope your road trip was a good one. Helping out these adult kids is just what we do - I wouldn't have it any other way

              Have a safe day everyone!

Happy Snow Day Everyone!! Boy was that game exciting!! Made me love football again!! We had a fabulous time at my sister's-small and intimate, just 7 of us. Way too much food but oh so yummy! The snow didn't start until after midnite so we got home safe and I hope all New Englander's did as well. One of the guests last nite got a text immediately after the game ended from her daughter who is at URI-she told her mom that riots had broken out and things were being set on fire. Haven't heard one thing on the news about that but no reason to question the info. Will need to go digging...
School is closed today and its snowing pretty hard. Supposed to turn to ice later then back to snow. Yipee. I do not need to go anywhere so will snuggle in here with the pups and enjoy leftovers from the party. Maybe even get motivated enough to keep decluttering and cleaning but working on the Budget comes first and foremost!!

Cyn-hope you made it home before the storm started and that your SD found a nice place to live. Please check in.

Was not impressed with the super bowl ads, especially the Nationwide one. Horrible and inexcusable. I would NEVER buy insurance from them that's for sure!!

Star-do you think you'll be able to post some pics of the house today? maybe from the MLS listing? If not, no prob-I just want to live vicariously through you for a little bit LOL!!

Lav and Dill-what's on the agenda for you all today?

                  Hi all -

Thanks for your good wishes! All went fine yesterday - SD was with us just for the weekend, but got a chance to see a rental in the city where she wants to move. Her dad said he would go with her to look, but it didn't make sense for her to come all the way back up to us to get her dog and then head home. So that's why I took her dog to her current place, picked up HB and headed home. 3.5 hours later, walked back in the door. But I feel OK with the transit because I got outside and was busy before all that sitting...knowing that more snow was coming, I raked as much of the roof as I could. I did a good job, but sheesh, cleaning up the deck from the raked snow was the really big job! Anyway, I'm so glad I did, as we have a foot of snow already, and it won't stop until tonight. The wind is wild, and the drifts are drifting. Still, I'd rather have this than your sleet and freezing ice, Lav. Good luck with that.

Star- you can repeat your happiness every day for us - it's really inspiring that you worked so hard and now are living your dream life. Also so glad for you that you are in a climate that works better for you. Congrats again!

Pap - glad you have a snow day. That's the problem for me with working from home - never a day off. (Unless the power goes out, which is probably why I like it when the power goes out!) But I hope the power stays on this storm - temps are supposed to drop like crazy tonight.

My poor birds - I worry about them. I fixed up a new treat for them this morning. Lav, I was out of coconut oil, but had some red palm oil that I wanted to get rid of, so used that. Not so sure that's to their liking, but I put in all the old berries and apples that I had, so hopefully they'll eat around the palm oil if they don't like it. The cardinal returned briefly, hoping for loose black oil sunflowers I suppose. He took off - but the flash of red was thrilling. Unfortunately I've attracted a big blue jay who is being a bully to the little birds, dang him. Well, I can't control everything I guess.

Dill - I ditto Star. I can't imagine a son in a war - terrifying. A family member of mine is a commander in special forces, and the whole family is a wreck whenever he's deployed or supervising a mission. I count on my Mom to watch over him now...she coined the phrase 'industrial size prayers' when she was alive - and she was devoted herself to prayers about her family.

Hang in there everyone with whatever is your challenge today. We can handle it - Fearless!!!!

Star - meant to say that I have been reading about how much water the liver would like to have to flush out all toxins: most sites agree - i gallon a day! I'm going to work up to half of that and then see how it goes. But I also have read that B vitamins, C and most of all Omega oils really help the cell walls absorb moisture - keeping them soft and able to take in nutrients. (Flax oil and ground flax seed is good for that, is that right Lav?) A lot of our diet has substances that makes the cell walls hard, and that can lead to dis-ease. Will let you know if I come across anything else...good luck!

Papmom, I couldn't agree with you more about that Nationwide commercial! That was horrible! No Nationwide for me, thanks. Yes, that was definitely a good game. Congrats on the Pats. I was rooting for the Seahawks, but didn't really have strong feelings about either team this go round.

Cyn, good for you clearing your roof and good luck with the next round of snow. I think your trip to get the dog makes perfect sense. We still go thru all kinds of extra effort for our kids at all ages. I also have to thank you for sharing about your mom' watching over your relative and her phrase, "industrialized prayer"! I promise you, I will use that one! We'll spread a little bit of your Mom's spirit around my stomping grounds here in southern Ohio!

Lav, so sorry you have had so many difficult years with YB. It's lucky for you your kids haven't had too many huge difficulties, you had enough on your plate dealing with him!

No Star, it does not sound cruel when you admit it is a relief not to live with your son. I can only imagine how difficult his teen years must have been for all of you. And as mothers don't you think we absorb their emotional pain? We take it on but cannot smooth the way for them or fix their problems, so it is a heavy burden in our hearts. When we have a problem, we can take action to deal with it. When our kids have a problem we can only look on and offer support and advice. I am so glad you have a peaceful, uncluttered home. How does Mr. Star feel about the new home?

The K9 dog has not been found. It has been lost since before Christmas. There is still hope tho. One time I had a dog that slipped her collar and ran away on the 4th of July because the fireworks so unnerved her. She was returned to me more than a month later by someone that saw my ad in the classified. When she ran off she had no ID because she had slipped her collar. In her panicked state she jumed thru the open window of a parked car. The car belonged to someone who lived 30 miles away! My dog was hunkered down in fear in the back seat for half the ride. Then she sat up. When the driver checked her rearview mirror she was shocked to see a pair of lovely brown eyes in a blonde face looking back at her! LOL! She kept the dog and took good care of her until she found my ad and gave me a call.

                        Good morning...

Pap and Cyn, stay warm and safe. My goodness you are getting nailed with snow. Good for all growing things come spring.

Pap, my pictures are not synced with my computer currently, but I will work on that soon and get a picture of my new house in there. My husband LOVES the new house, we spent yesterday unpacking the rest of the boxes, calling places to change addresses, having the fireplace delivered (it is nice) and just enjoying being home. It was cold here yesterday, 1-2 inches of snow. Nothing for us, we are used to what you have. Pap, I am pleased you have enforced time home to relax or get things done as you choose. It can be nice.

Cyn, you are a warrior, take care. I love the way you take care of the birds. You too Lav. My cat can now watch birds outside again and they were flying around everywhere. It was so cute.

Dill, I would never want to go through those teen years again, even though some of it was fun. I loved my kids friends and having lots of them in the house, informal cookouts, dinners, etc. I just hated to see my son go through abuse at school. But looking back I notice that all the times in my life have both good and bad things happening. Drinking is no way to live. It was no fun anymore. Just a burden and a brief escape.

Lav, yes, it is really dry in this house. The neti pot is helping so much I cannot believe it. I go back to work today though and can't use it there. I will just drink water all day and herbal tea. It is in the teens temperature wise and that makes it so much drier. Sorry YB got so into himself and caused you so much grief. My husband has done really hurtful things too in our life together. But I suppose I have too. I have given up the ideal of a perfect relationship, and work on what we have. Sometimes it is easy other times hard. I have a friend who is so bitter about her husband, focuses on his faults, and has no perception of how it must be to be married to her. She has become really critical, judgmental and it has leached into all her relationships. I have learned what not to do. I think acceptance is a a huge step in coming to terms and being realistic about relationships and focusing on any and all positives. That is what I liked about Japanese psychology; focusing on self. What have I given, what faults do I have, what actions can I take to live a purpose filled life. Great stuff.

OK, I need to get ready to go back to work and I am ready. It is fun being home, but I love to work too. Dress up, talk to people all day, and then look forward to coming home. Yay.

                        Have a good one.

Good morning friends on yet another frosty morning
Just love waking up to single digit wind chills, Ha Ha!!

Star, I am so grateful to have found the ToDo Institute. To think I was looking for help for my great nephew with his ADHD 11 years ago but it helped me so much too. I sometimes think YB may not have survived this long & I could very well be in jail for putting him out of his misery without the help of ToDo - not kidding!
I love hearing that you are settling in your new house so nicely, that's just great!

Cyn, clearing snow from the roof - really?? You are a brave one
I'm glad the birds are enjoying their treat, that's cool. I gave the chickens a seed ring I made yesterday with sunflower oil. It worked fine & they are not picky at all! We bought an extra bag of black oiled sunflower seeds to mix in with the birdseed & it does attract the cardinals to the feeder but it also attracts squirrels, oh well.

Dill, that's a real shame about the missing K9. Back in the 70's we had a friend who trained K9s. He did great work but unfortunately he burned himself out with dual drug & AL addictions. What an incredible story about your dog - awesome!!!

Papmom, are you OK in all that snow? GEEZ!

OK, I'm going to feed all these animals then get myself to Curves!
Have a great AF Tuesday everyone!

Here's the snowpocolypse pics!! I can't believe we've had back to back blizzards and no school for Monday and Tues 2 weeks in a row!! 2 more feet expected next Sunday-AGAIN!! There is no way we're going to get dug out of this next one!! There is no place to put the white stuff!!
I had a small scare today. Tried to do some shoveling and started getting some weird twinges in my chest. The stuff was heavier than what I had worked with last week because it was all packed down. I got scared so I stopped and got in touch with my nephew. He came over and did the front walk and stairs that my neighbor hadn't gotten to last nite, dug out my oil intake pipe and even went into the dog yard and dug out a nice sized area for them. He also cleaned off my car. I am very blessed.
Last week I used the roof rake (which I'm sure is what Cyn used yesterday) but in these pics you would never know it. I'm not doing it again as she is right, cleaning up what you rake off is worse than the raking.
The front loader will be coming down again tomorrow to widen the streets which means blocked sidewalks again. I'm going to try not to fret about it and have faith someone with a snowblower will help out again. I tried to get my blower out today but the trash can I use to prop the shed door closed is stuck in ice and unmoveable. I'm almost ready to either curl up in a ball and hibernate until July or pack up and move south. Stick a fork in me.
Cyn-now I understand the reason for the trip!! Glad you got home safe and sound. You are a good mom. Stay warm.

Lav-whatever happened to our idea of a group home down south somewhere? I think we need to resurrect that one LOL!!

Star-how was coming home from work today? Bet you couldn't wait! Was the commute shorter? I think you said it would be?

Dill-incredible story about your dog coming back to you! What a nice person she was to not give up looking for the owner-most people I fear would just keep the dog.

So second snow day-haven't really been all that productive-seem to have a bad case of intertia and bubble world addiction LOL!! I think I need to get back to work!!
