Good morning...
Dill, I thought the same thing when Cyn was talking about all the yard work: hire a helper. Did you look at the list Lav sent of famous teetotalers? Very interesting. I am loving the weather, long days, warmth. The hard part is going to work every day! I want to get off early, like a little kid! I want the summer off. Haha. I found two new authors I am trying out: Barbara Kingsolver and Anne Tyler. I downloaded The Bean Tree, and will start reading it today if I can. So, I have been trying to make lemonade out of lemons. Since my library has so few books, I went to Barnes and Nobles, browsed, and wrote down interesting looking books and authors, then searched to see if I can download them from my library. Some I can, so I am. It has been fun researching books, getting reviews, etc. The internet provides info on everything.
Lav, super mimom away!!!!! They are lucky to have you and what a special time in your life to be so closely involved with both kids and grandkids. I love the fact that I can babysit my grandson, and today my son is coming for four days!!! For mother's day which is very sweet. He passed all his classes with flying colors and has a few days off before starting summer classes. Hope your weekend is celebrated too. Sorry to hear you can't get off your medications, but I was thinking, thank goodness they have them. You know you eat clean and are as healthy with lots of effort. It's all you can do and it is alot.
Cyn, good for you for setting boundaries after days away. I understand wanting to get things done in your yard, I wish you knew someone who could help you, even if it has to be for pay. I am still sore from Sunday, but it looks really good. However, if I did yard work day after day it might do me in. Like a pulled muscle or something, which sounds mild, but can be severe. So, I received the dream book you talked about and LOVE IT. I was reading it last night and it is so informative, specific, and with lots of ideas on interpretation. Thanks for the referral, I am using it currently.
Hello to Pauly and Pap!
Have a terrific Thursday!

Good morning friends!
Is it really Thursday already? I guess time flies when you are having SO much fun, ha ha!!
I have to keep reminding myself that I am so damn lucky to just be alive at this point. This fall will mark 15 years since I nearly lost my life. I have no reason to complain about taking a stupid B/P pill every morning. It's just been a personal hope & wish to get off the medication. What a journey it has been for me - first being seriously hurt then falling into a deep pit of depression & self-medicating with wine. That was so bad & I am ever so grateful to be done with all that. I guess I had to go through all that to get to where I am now - happy & super busy
On a sad note for those who are on Facebook - my son lost one of his co-workers yesterday. The poor guy went into sudden cardiac arrest at a fire scene. This is not the first guy to die while on duty since my son has been with the DCFD. It's a harsh job & when you have all that adrenaline pumping - things can happen. Very sad indeed.
Star, I hope you have a nice visit with your son this weekend! Sounds like he is doing well too, that's great!
Cyn, are there any high school aged boys near by? Sometimes they are willing to do some yard work for a little $$.
I know how expensive it is to hire the pros. I'm glad you are holding the line & making people respect your time & energy!!
Dill, that teetotalers list is quite impressive & just think - we can all add our names with pride
Pauly, I have absolutely zero experience in desert gardening, ha ha!!
I'm going to have to find some info to help you out a bit. Living here on the east coast makes gardening fairly simple. We usually get enough rain & warmth but not too much! I'll post some pictures on Facebook for you, LOL
Give Chucky a hug from me!
OK, time to get my Curves on. Wishing everyone a lovely AF Thursday!

Pauly, I had a good laugh when you mentioned Trump's hair! Inexplicable, isn't it? I sure hope Louie is mellowed out today!
Star, I have read a couple of Kingsolver books and liked them. I hope you enjoy. I am not sure if I have read any Ann Tyler books. Her name is familiar but no bells are ringing.
Lav, I really enjoyed looking at that list and reading some of the references at the end of the article. I wished that after each name they had specified if the person was always a teetotaller of if they became one once they realized they couldn't control alcohol.
It got way too hot here today! Yiikes. I worked outside only in the morning. Again on the fencing. But by 10:30 it was already too hot for me!
Have a peaceful AF evening.
Oh, I just googled Ann Tyler and yes, I have read The Accidental Tourist. Liked that one!Last edited by dill; May 7, 2015, 04:53 PM.Dill

'Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant' by Ann Tyler was a good one too
It's too hot here too Dill & I am sure I will be kicking on the AC real soon. Sunday is predicted to be 87 degrees, yuck.
One of our old MWO friends lives in Nebraska & she said on Facebook today that they are having SNOW on Sunday, double yuck! I did get a little more planting done tonight after dinner & did some watering. We actually need some rain but I'd better be careful what I wish for, right??AF since 03/26/09

Good morning...
We have had the air conditioning on all week, it has been over 85 a few days and I am not going to sweat all night. So, thank goodness it works well.
Lav, Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant is on my list. I am going to download about 10 books and just take my tablet for my trip next week. If I see a book I want at the airport, it I will buy it, as a vacation present to myself.
Dill, I am having fun with new authors.
Cyn, hope you are doing well.
Pauly, when my allergies flared up in the spring, I would always get depressed. It was like a long ongoing cold, it was rough. Hope you feel better quickly.
I have to leave for work early, a early breakfast meeting for something. Yay, it's Friday. My son made it safely and so far, so good. Have a lovely Friday.

Star, how great your son is visiting! I'm glad he arrived safely and it sounds like he is doing so well! Have a good visit. Did you say you'd be keeping your grandson this weekend, too? Your son will get in some valuable "uncle" time!
Lav, you are right to be grateful for what we have and grateful for the medications that keep us going! I am so sorry to hear about your son's coworker. Very sad indeed.
Not much happening here today. It's just too darn hot outside! However, in a couple of minutes I'm headed out to pick up my granddaughter for an overnight, so my evening will be anything but quiet!
Cyn, Pauly, Papmom, have a peaceful af Friday evening.Dill

Good morning friends, happy Saturday!
Dill, it's been hot & sunny here too. I haven't resorted to the AC yet but just may this weekend. The humidity is what gets me, yuck. Cloudy & cool so far this morning, I should get outside & do some stuff
Star, I hope your weekend is going well & you are enjoying family time.
Greetings Cyn, Papmom & Pauly!
What's everyone doing this weekend? I picked up a bunch of annuals to put in my deck pots yesterday. I try to find new & colorful plants each year & love the ones that claim to attract butterflies.
Wishing everyone a wonderful AF Saturday!

Lav, I haven't caved in and turned on the AC yet. It is a dry heat hear and there is a nice breeze. If the humidity goes up, I'll turn the AC on in a heartbeat!
I signed up for a class at the local library. It was held today at 1:00 and participants came away with a completed floral wreath project. All supplies were provided as well as instruction. What a great deal! I'll put a picture of it on here soon. I need to follow your lead Lav and get some annuals planted. Right now I have pansies in a pot on the deck and they are so cheerful!
Greetings Cyn, Papmom, Pauly and Star.Dill

Good morning...
Yesterday was very busy, I had to go to the grocery store first thing, then my son and I went downtown, had lunch outside, walked around for over an hour. Came back, rested, then went shopping. I am trying to change my style a bit with some dresses. They have some really cute ones out, and they look so comfortable. So, I bought three. Two short, one long. I am going to wear my long one today we are invited to a Mother's Day celebration with in-law's. It feels kind of weird, but I am going for it!
Dill, know you had fun with your granddaughter. The library craft lesson sounded great, I would love to come home with a new wreath.
Lav, hope you have a good Mother's Day too. You too Dill.
Hello to Cyn, Pauly, and Pap. Have a good one.

Good Sunday morning & Happy Mother's day
Cloudy, warm & humid at the moment but we may see some sun later. I gifted myself with the AC so I'm good, ha ha!
Dill, I used to love doing crafts but kind of lost that feeling over the years. Glad you enjoyed yourself yesterday!
Star, enjoy the dresses! I can't seem to force myself into one any more. I think I relate wearing dresses with uncomfortable shoes - go figure! Sounds like you had a good shopping trip
Greetings Papmom, Cyn & Pauly! I hope you all have plans for a nice day.
I think my grandsons & their parents will be back today. I hope someone else decides to cook, LOL
Have a wonderful AF Sunday!

Lav, I gave in today and turned on the AC. It doesn't seem right to have it on in May! Granddaughter just left and I am resting but once I get my second wind we are heading to the garden store!
Star, I hope you got over the "feels kind of weird" feelings of wearing your new attire. I could relate to that statement! I bought a couple of dresses about 3 years ago, thinking I would try to change things up but it simply didn't catch on for me. I wore them a couple of times but only around the house. I love seeing other people in dresses and wish it was for me, but I guess you can't teach and old dog new tricks!:happy2: At least not this old dog!I'm glad you had time with your son this weekend.
Greetings Cyn, Papmom and Pauly. Thinking of you all.Dill

Hi all - sorry to be AWOL, just a huge week that never seemed to slow down. Also sorry I sounded annoyed about the yard work - honestly, I don't feel that way, but I do feel under the pressure of getting things done when Spring decides that it's time to leaf out and the invasives suddenly appear! Sheesh, no choice in the matter! To get even part of it accomplished means putting other things on the back burner, and since I can't do that, I feel pressured. I did hire my landscape guys to come and pick up all the stuff that I bushwhacked out - it was more than a full load, so I had to drag the excess to the back of the woods. That unfortunately is all the budget I have for everything this summer, ah well. I also don't think anyone else would be as persnickety about getting to the 'root' of the invasives, if you know what I mean. The first year I had someone else try to control it and it was a waste - everything came back even bigger. But I decided last night that I'm done with the wild part of the yard - two consecutive days of ticks and ticks embedded; that's enough for me. No sense risking one's health. I also know that I'll have no time for the raised bed garden, or probably for lifting and dividing everything that needs it, ah well. I did order mulch, so I'll spread that and hope for the best until the fall freeze, and I'll start up again.
Lots more driving last week - Thursday a 10 hour day in NYC, Saturday picked up my visiting cousins 2 hours away at the train. This morning a 3 hour commute to (finally) see SD's apartment (adorable!). Now finishing up on the work that I've missed. All of May will be the same - my client sold his apartment, so the 'pedal will be to the metal'! But good to be busy, right?
I am off to try to clean a few screens - no A/C window units can go in until HB comes home on Wed, and the dogs and I are suffocating here since I haven't had time to put the screens in! Whew, that will be a relief to get some air moving.
Wishing all you fabulous moms (and fur-mom) a wonderful Mother's Day!
