Hello ladies, jeez Tree, that sounds awful, both the accident and the traffic mess, hope the baby and her parent are ok,I always worry about others that I don't even know, speaking of which Lav,any news of the little boy hit by the car? It's a thundering mess here today!dark and stormy, and yesterday the weather man said "absolutely no chance of rain" Liar! Had to take Kell across town for a doctor appointment this morning, she had to be there by 5:30,so I left here at 4:30, was groggy and accidentally cut someone off, I swear I didn't see them, well they followed me when I turned got in front of me then drove at a crawl, I signaled a turn into Kellie's apartment complex, and they did too,so we both sat finally I decided to go and they cut me off, blocked the entrance to the complex and I nearly got hit by oncoming traffic, I sped out of there and took a back street across from her apartment complex and cut my lights and hid,I tried texting her to meet me but my poor little fingers were shaking, terrible thing so early in the morning, plus people get shot over road rage all the time, I do feel bad for cutting the person off though, if I could apologize I would, at least I was just a bad driver and no half drunk or hungover so that's a plus Lav,I signed up for the forks over knives recipe of the week email Dill, your grandbabies are at fun ages,do you get to see the one that lives in New Orleans often?hello to all and I hope everyone is having a nice day so far

So glad your angels were with you & watching over you.

Cyn, I am wih Lav! I am totally impressed that you are able to drive in NYC. I would have to have a legion of angels helping! LOL. How awful for the mother and child. How did you learn what had happened? Did you see it or talk to anyone while you were being rerouted, or did you hear about it on the radio or TV? I hope you'll be able to follow the story and find out if the child is OK. That is the classic definition of a "freak accident", is it not? As for my grandkids ages, I too am amazed hat how fast they grow. I must say I'm relieved to be past the terrible twos and almost past the 3's. The granddaughter is much more fun to be with now that she has some ideas about safety and some good play skills to keep her preoccupied and out of trouble.

Pauly, WOW! That sounded awful. I wish you had gotten the license plate number of that horrible person. Not sure why exaclty, or what you would do with it. But anyway, I am SO glad you are ok and that you were af during that ordeal or it could have really gone wrong. Please forgive yourself for the initial transgression of cutting that person off. That is a complete and total accident and any of us could have done it and have done it! That's why it's important to be a defensive driver. You are so lucky to have gotten away from that nutcase unharmed! What is the matter with people?! Maybe it was an aggressive drunk person. It does sound like their judgment was impaired.

Lav, Thank you for the link. I watched the trailer and got the gist of it. It makes complete sense that what we eat is essential to our health. And thanks for the great tip on basil! I don't know why I never thought of that. I bet in addition to being delicious, it is pretty if in the right containers.

Star, hoping things are going well for you.
        Papmom, same for you.

Looking forward to some fine weather for the next few days. Lots of time to "play" out in the yard. Not much new here. Have a great day all!

          Late afternoon greetings friends!

My girls will be arriving soon. We are heading out for a bite to eat (not cooking my my vacation, ha ha!)
We will be leaving early in the morning & heading straight to the beach for a few days!
Darn, my son was here briefly this afternoon but I forgot to ask about the injured child. He's been in DC working 60 hours straight (insane). He probably doesn't even have any news to share.
Cyn, that incident in NY sounded horrendous. Why are children such magnets for harm?

Don't know when I will post again but I will be back home late Friday afternoon.
Wishing everyone a quiet AF week.

Wishing you safe travels, Lav! We'll do our best to keep this ship afloat while you're away.

I haven't done any more research about the NYC incident with the child...though I did find out that it was an 80-something grandmother that had the child with her, and they were just sitting on a bench outside of the building (a former hotel, now a complex for seniors). A piece of the building just literally fell off - the grandmother was hurt minimally - I feel so bad, it must have been such a terrifying scene for her.

Pauly - I found out that yesterday was the start of Mercury retrograde! It's often credited with crazy things happening with transportation, cars, etc. I'm so glad you escaped having a confrontation with that crazy person...holy cow. And so glad to hear your gratitude for being sober on a morning that held such stress. Stay safe!

Dill - hope you are enjoying your nice weather. I actually got out and spread some mulch on the front gardens - it was a self-defensive move; it (finally) was raining, and I the mulch is keeping the double-dirty paws to a minimum. I was out at 7:30 AM, working in the rain (in my rain suit), and had a good time accomplishing something outside. I also pulled out two invasive small trees that suddenly were rearing up like crazy. So much to get done, but at least I made a dent.

Off to NYC again tomorrow (this time on the train, where I will NOT sit in the first few cars...), so don't know if I'll have energy to post when I return, but I'll try to do it and keep Lav's place warm!

Wishing all a great night -

                Good morning...

Back from my trip, which went well for the most part, except the connecting flight on the way home was delayed and we arrived home at 4 am. Had to recover from that yesterday and now getting ready for work. The weather in Florida was perfect, sunny and hot. We stayed at a really comfortable place, lots of people of all ages, it was so fun. My dad, not so fun. The treatments are making him sick, sicker, really sick. It is crazy. It was hard to leave him, we saw him every day for a little while, he wouldn't let us do much for him. So, that part was really hard.

Cyn, seems like your business picked up and you are traveling like crazy, take care. We did a little yard work yesterday too, so much easier with a smaller yard. But still, those invasive trees are a pain. The previous owners let things go and we are done with the front yard now, but the back yard is a mess. I feel good out in the yard too.

Dill, sounds like you have been having fun more often, and enjoying your g-kids. Good for you. This will make you laugh, I decided this is the summer I will find my waistline. Haha. So, first on the agenda, kabobs. I saw some good recipes for kabobs, and will serve those more often in my goal to find my waistline this summer. One I want to make this weekend, shrimp, tomatoes, marinated in EVOO, minced garlic, oregano, and then sprinkled with feta cheese. Vidalia onions sound good too! I read four books on my trip, it was fun to have time to relax and read. Hope you are enjoying a good book too.

Lav, have fun on your trip. My, you have had lots of stuff happen in the time I am gone. It is amazing how much better I feel when I eat more veggies, seed, fruits, and stay away from processed. I looked up the white bean hummus recipe and it looks good and healthy. Thanks.

Pauly, glad you are back. No one has had an easy time getting AF. Cunning, baffling, powerful as it says in AA and for me that about sums it up. I found out I was allergic to nuts, easy for me to stay away. Why is alcohol different? We all have an allergy to it, so we are successful if we keep on trying.

Hello to Pap! Have a good one.

Hello Star and a big welcome back! I am glad you were able to enjoy some relaxation as well as some time with your Dad. I am so sorry to hear he feels so poorly. It must've been very difficult for you. As far as your new goal, finding your waistline, well I think it is laudable but you did bring a smile to my face. I hope your kabob strategy brings the desired result! LOL! And yes, I am having more fun times with my grandkids of late. Let the healing continue!

Cyn, I google that news story and found it had a very sad ending. The grandmother was ok, but the two year old died of her injuries. The building owners were cited for maintenance failure and there was no decision yet as to whether to bring criminal charges. It's all so tragic. The broken-hearted parents donated the child's organs, so out of the despair and devastation for one family will come hope and joy for others. http://nypost.com/2015/05/18/2-year-...is-brain-dead/ As for yardwars, I too continue going from battle to battle. Sometimes the enemy seems to spring up absolutely overnight! As the great Winston Churchill said, "Never, never, never give up!" Neither in the battle to be alcohol free nor the battle against the invasives.

Lav, thinking of you and your girls!

Pauly, hope you have recovered from you traffic episode.

Nice cool weather here today has me feeling invigorated. Hope you all enjoy an af Hump Day!

Star, welcome back! Glad you got to see your Dad. I hope his treatments don't wear too hard on him.

Cyn, very sad about that child in NYC. I can't even imagine!!!!
Have a safe train trip tomorrow

Greetings Dill, are you getting this cooler weather too? It's so much nicer than the muggy humidity we had going for a while.

Pauly, we spent a week in Ireland back in 2003. I can still hear their 'language'

                      Hi Papmom!!!

                        Good morning...

Lav, good to hear you are safely at your destination and having a nice time. I needed to get away and know it will benefit you also. Having said that, I am soooo tired the first day back. It is really chilly hear, highs in the 50s and rainy. Whew, where is my summer? Have a good day Lav.

Dill, I imagine it is cold where you are too. Summer is coming, just taking its time.

Pauly, your day sounded so wonderful. May it continue.

A quick hello to all -

After gusher rainfalls the other night, it is clear that we may have to deal with roofing issues, so am making calls and cleaning up after the mess that has left. I need to get into the office after the day away yesterday, so I'll try to jump back in soon --

Pauly, nice to hear of your surprise visits - enjoy your daughter!

Lav - so glad that you are away having fun - hope the rain doesn't last long.

Dill - thanks for the story's ending, but how incredibly sad. What a freak incident for those parents to live through, and the poor grandmother. How wonderful that the family donated the organs...as you say, life may yet come out of death. My heart goes out to them all.

Star - welcome back. 4 AM arrival, sheesh! Glad that the yard work is making you happy, but sorry about the darn invasives. Also sorry that you had to see your dad not feeling well. Everybody gets to choose their way of moving forward...

OK, wishing all well - take care, will try to be back on soon -

Hello my Lovelies! So sorry I've been MIA for a bit. Its been crazy busy at work and in life. But graduation was tonite and it is finally over!! Still have lots of paperwork to do to actually confer the degrees but the deadlines are over. Whew!!
                            Comments:
Cyn-horrible story about that poor child in NYC. Freaky and nothing that could be done (except the maintenance by the owners)
Lav-another horrible story on the heels of the train crash. I sure hope EB will be ok and of course the child that was hit.
Star-welcome back! So so sorry your dad is not doing well. I'm sorry there is nothing you can do.
Lav-hoping you are having a blast at the beach!
Pauly-All our quits have become successful only have fits and starts. Be good and honest with yourself first and foremost. I've been having "slip" dreams lately and I wake up shaking. Just have to ride this wave-I used to call it the Crave Wave. I too wish I could drink normally but since I can't even eat normally, I know that being a "normal" drinker is out of the question.
Dill-so nice you have so much time to devote to your yard and grandkids. You too Lav! I sure hope these next 5-8 years go fast for me!!

                            So to update you all:
My 5 year anniversary apparently was on the 10th and I didn't even remember!!! Wonder what that means?
This week has been incredibly busy and stressful. I have done no exercise except for a isolate walk with the dogs and walking back and forth to work most days. I've also been binging a bit on sweets and snacks. Got to get back to the heart healthy life style!! This weekend is an agility/rally weekend about 1.5 hours away. We're staying over night Saturday. Its going to be crazy as our hotel is 20 min away. couldn't afford the closer ones plus they were all booked. We're leaving at 6:30 sat morning. Yikes!! DD has had a major stomach set back but seems to be doing better. As a result we haven't done the training for Rally I had planned to. We were lucky the last 2 trials and Q'd despite horrible runs so we'll see if we get our Title on Sat. If not, oh well. It will be fun anyway!!
Last weekend I worked a demo about an hour away then came home and mowed and trimmed the yard. That felt good! Sun I got out around 10 and put in an hour and half weeding and grubbing out the front beds. Still need to get mulch bought and spread. Then it got too hot so I spent the rest of the day doing inside work. Monday I'll probably have to mow again!!
I think that's about it for me for now. I'll be posting on FB this weekend if you all want to see how we do at the trials. Just PM me for my FB name and profile pic. Hoping to post some victory videos!!

                              Good morning...

Still chilly here, but supposed to get into the 70s later in the afternoon. I want summer! Three day weekend to look forward too.

Pap, so good to hear you are busy and productive in a good way. It is hard to stay on track with both food and alcohol, I liked your description of the crave wave. It is so easy to get off track and hard to get back on the straight and narrow! Congrats on your 5 year anniversary. You are just busy living your life! It would be hard to manage a house and yard on your own. We struggle with the two of us and working full time. Lucky to have a small yard this time around. Lots to do in our back yard this weekend.

Cyn, roof troubles are the worst. We have had them in the past, it actually scared me to see chunks of ceiling come down in our kitchen. It was fixed eventually and fixed right so then no more trouble. You have really had your share with this house. This has to be it after this. Hope your husband is home this weekend and you two can do something relaxing and/or fun.

Dill, cookout this weekend? We cooked out last night and it was so good. Chicken breasts marinated in Italian dressing and veggies. I just love the food from this point on, lots of fresh fruit and veg in season.

Lav, sure you are having a nice time. Enjoy.

Friday for me, work, get out a little early, then come home and cook out and yard work. We need to buy a hose. I want to plant some flowers too. Have a good one.

Hello all, looks like we'll be having a beautiful Memorial Day weekend weather-wise.

Papmom, a big congrats on 5 years! I think it says a lot that you missed your anniversary. It says to me that you have become quite solid in your new life. Awesome! You have done so well in all areas really. You are amazing. Will you have a more laid back schedule at work in the summer now that the students have graduated? Have fun at the trials this weekend.

Star, grilled chicken breast sounds good! I need to join you in your waistline quest and grilling and fresh veggies will help. BTW, do you remember when I planted Stargazer Lilies last year prompted by your old name and avatar? Well they didn't really do very well. I think I put them out too late. Only 2 out of the 10 plants came up and flowered so I was surprised this spring when all ten of them came up! I still don't understand how that could happen, but there they are!

Cyn, so sorry to hear about your roof trouble. You've really had a lot of house issues this year! We moved here 23 years ago and had to roof the house when we first moved in. This house had been terribly neglected which is why we could afford to buy it. It was a real fixer-upper. Anyway, our roof is now in need of replacing and it is leaking around chimneys. It's always something!

Lav, did you have a great time with the girls or what?!

Pauly, I am sure you are enjoying your visit with your daughter. And how nice to get to see your dad and meet his lady friend. I love an Irish brogue! Will your dad be going to Ireland sometime to see her?
